Carbine Club of South Australia – SANFL GF Luncheon
The Carbine Club of South Australia Inc., celebrated the 2019 SANFL Grand Final with a feast of football
activity in the William Magarey Room at Adelaide Oval.
Hosted by Channel 7’s Sports presenter, Mark Soderstrom, there was a wide range of football identities to
speak with and in his most genial way, he was able to get the responses that he was seeking.
On the day David Shipway AM launched a new initiative for SA – Sport
scholarship. Indy Tahau a very keen 17-year-old women’s footballer from
Reynella High School was presented with a cheque to assist her
development as a young player.

Mark Soderstrom interviewed Indy who
comes from a family of 9 children and
enjoys her newfound sport in football.
She is striving to achieve AFL status and hopes to prove herself worthy in the
2020 season.
Glenelg Football Club Coach Mark Stone was very reflective of the season and quietly confident that his team
has every chance to pull off the Grand Final this year. The Glenelg season has been consistent having finished
minor premiers.
There must be one coach in the mix who could prove that the
Magpies will be unstoppable in the Grand Final. Matthew has a
baby on the way and will be more than busy in the next few
months prior to season 2020.
His form with the team all season has been exceptional and should
prove a strong competitor against Glenelg.
The umpires were a talking point for Soda – he always happens to find a “virgin” umpire on the day.

Luke Partington was hard at work studying for his upcoming teaching
exams @ Flinders University prior to speaking with Soda – he has
achieved the Magarey Medal status this year and will prove that a
potential career as a high school teacher will stand him in good stead
for his future. Luke is a strong family man and supports his mum and
siblings – a very focused player and asset for Glenelg.
Solitaire once again formed a partnership with
Carbine Club sponsoring the Guest Speaker – Mark
Williams for the luncheon and presented the Jaguar
XE and Jaguar F-PACE SVR to our 550 strong
crowd.
Key note speaker for the day – Mark Williams entertained the crowd with a very engaging
reflection on the Williams family and his meteoric rise to achieve many goals in life, and also now mentors
many AFL and VFL players through his business “Champion Teams”.
The Governor His Excellency Hieu Van Le (centre) always
attends the footy lunch and enjoys the entertainment. As
Patron of the SA chapter, he is very engaged in local events
and the SANFL Grand Final is certainly one he is passionate
about.
John Olsen AO Chairman of the SANFL Commission (right of
Governor) was pleased with a strong SANFL Grand Final
coming up between Port Glenelg.
The raffle for Novita always raises a
large figure – the box next to Russell
Ebert (ambassador for Novita) says it
all! Over $16,000 was raised via the
raffle and ball ticket – Burley Seekham
kindly donated the balls that were
raffled on the day too.
The day went well with a very impressive line-up of
past players and medalists from days gone by.
L-R: Legend Medalist players Ken Eustice, John Halbert OBE
and Neil Kerley OAM
L-R: David Myers – Pres, CCSA, Mark Williams
and David Shipway AM
