New City Manager Here we go again: Ojai is looking for a new City Manager. Rob Clark resigned effective March 1, 2016 and Steve McClary, Deputy City Manager, has been named Interim City Manager through August. Mr. Clark did a masterful job of bringing Ojai back into the world of black ink. We have had increasing budget line items for street repairs for three years now, when we had none for who knows how long. The Chamber enjoyed an honest and open relationship with him and we wish him well in retirement or in any future endeavors he chooses. No stranger to the inner workings of City Hall, Steve McClary has been with the City of Ojai for going on seven years. Hired as assistant city manager in 2009, he was promoted to Deputy City Manager in 2013. Prior to coming to Ojai he served in the Fillmore city manager’s offi ce for 12 years. It seems this changing of the guard will be seamless and the Chamber looks forward to retaining its open relationship with the City Manager’s offi ce now that McClary is has been appointed.

The 16th annual Ojai Golf Classic will be held on Saturday, June 4th, at Soule Park golf course. Hosted in partnership by the Ojai Valley Youth Founda-tion and The Ojai Edu-cation Foundation, this event continues to be a grand success for both organizations. With the change of venue and day, the Golf Classic Committee is seeking local golfers to participate and enjoy this won-derful event. There will be many of the familiar ‘extras’, such as a goodie bags for each participant, the “closest-to-the-hole contest”, the “longest drive contest”, the fa-vorite “ball drop” on the 18th hole, and a chance to win a fabulous prize for a hole-in-one! New this year is a bar-b-que dinner put on by the Rotary Club of Ojai West. Golfers will pay $150 to golf this year and individual and corporate sponsorships

will be made available at rates starting at $300.00. The money that is raised at the tourna-ment each year goes directly back into pro-grams that support the youth and schools in the Ojai Valley. It has been with the gener-ous help of local friends and businesses over the

years that the Ojai Education Foundation and the Ojai Valley Youth Foundation have been able to donate over a million dollars to help teachers implement creative ideas, provide cutting-edge technology, and pro-vide enriching programs for our youth. Also new this year will be an updated website. Golfers and Sponsors will have the opportunity to register online. To sponsor or for further information contact Laura Denne at [email protected] or (805) 640-8803.

Garden Tour 2016 Saturday, May 14 is the date of our 22nd Annual Ojai Valley Garden Tour. Once again this spring event will have fi ve private local gardens open for viewing. Two in the downtown area, one in Mira Monte and two in the East End. Almost all of the gardens this year are without lawns and are great examples of responsible water use, whether there is drought or not. Of special note on this year’s tour is the Turtle Conservancy. For two years this property has been in conversion from an orchard to a safe place for turtles and tortoises. Laurence Nicklin of Plantasia has been making the changes. Between the fl ow of color and plant choices, around each corner it looks like the set of an Indiana Jones movie. This is a special opportunity for the public to have access to this very private property. Tickets will sell fast so order early.

WHEN: Saturday, May 14, 2016

TIME: 10 A.M. - 4 P.M.

COST: $25 if purchased by 3PM on Friday, May 13. $30 thereafter.

Tickets can be purchased atwww.ojaichamber.org or by calling or coming by the Chamber Offi ce located at 206 N. Signal St., Suite P, (805) 646-8126. Tickets will also be made available for purchase until April 14 at Flora Gardens, 245 Old Baldwin Rd. (Hwy. 150 @ Rice Rd.)

Please Note: Some of the gardens have steep grades and broken ground, so wear proper foot gear.
