Message from the Executive Headmaster As Salaamu Alaikum
Dear Parents and Guardians
Alhamdulillah, Orient is blessed to have a set of resourceful and creative set of educators in the
Primary phase who are ably motivated and led by committed and forward-thinking management
staff. A quick scan of the activities that have been organized for the Third Term indicates how busy
the Primary School staff have been over the past three months. All of this is in the interest of ensur-
ing that our children in this important and formative phase of their schooling have opportunities of
developing their full potential – in the classroom as well as in the spiritual, sporting and cultural
fields. The enthusiasm and enjoyment of our little ones during their participation in the various ac-
tivities really provide heart-warming moments and I am confident that this positive attitude will
continue as they progress to the higher grades.
The school is currently processing returns from Opinion Surveys that have been conducted among
parents, learners and staff. The objective of this exercise is to obtain feedback from all the im-
portant stakeholders at school so that our school can accurately identify areas of strengths and ar-
eas of concern before we embark on any major school improvement strategies. For this to happen,
we would like to ensure that we have inputs from as many parents as possible.
An example is the issue of extending the school day- either by starting earlier or finishing later- in
order to accommodate an additional 15 minutes per day for Islamiat. We thank those parents who
have taken the time to complete and submit the on-line surveys and urge those who have not yet
submitted their responses to do so by 30 September. The survey is available on the D6 platform
and will take no more than 10 minutes to complete.
The short Michaelmas break sees the ushering in of the new Islamic year 1438. May the New Year
bring with it an improvement in our lives both from the worldly and spiritual perspectives. We
beseech Allah SWT to bestow his infinite mercy on the Orient community, our country with its
enormous challenges, the global Ummah and in particular the suffer-
ing masses in the strife-torn parts of the world.

Message from the Head of Islamiaat
Assalaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatul laahi wa Barakaatu
Alhamdulillah, we praise Allah SWT for yet another successful term. It is only through His Grace and Mercy that
knowledge and skills are acquired and day to day activities become possible. OIS, Alhamdulillah has been and
always is a vibrant and busy school, with constant academic achievements, coupled with wonderful and crea-
tive, fun-filled activities taking us through each term. Masha-Allah to all the staff, learners and all involved for
their efforts.
On another note, our beloved Prophet (SAWS) said, “The best among you are those who have the best
manners and character.” As the OIS family, who strive to be the best, the importance and impact of the
above words of our Prophet (SAWS) is and should be the highlight of our aims and objectives as an institute of
excellence. Greater emphasis needs to be placed on no other weightier task than trying to achieve excellence
in manners and good character. This should be the dominating factor which permeates the walls of our Insti-
tute, via all stakeholders, teachers, learners and parents alike.
We should ask ourselves, are we seriously contributing to the upliftment of good manners and character? Are
we reinforcing the valuable Islaamiaat lessons taught in our homes and communities?
The acquisition of fine manners and character can only see the light if all role players viz; teachers, parents and
learners play an active role in achieving this. At the beginning of a new Islamic Year – 1438 A.H, we sincerely
pray that Allah (SWT) makes this a reality and easy for one and all to achieve excellent manners and character
and May He guide us all along this meritorious journey. Ameen.
Wassalaam

MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
Childhood Stress | As providers and caretakers, adults tend to view the world of children as happy and
carefree. After all, kids don't have jobs to keep or bills to pay, so what could they possibly have to worry
about? Plenty! Even very young children have worries and feel stress to some degree.
Sources of Stress | Stress is a function of the demands placed on us and our ability to meet them. These
demands often come from outside sources, such as family, jobs, friends, or school. But it also can come from
within, often related to what we think we should be doing versus what we're actually able to do. Many kids
are too busy to have time to play creatively or relax after school. Kids who complain about all their activities or
who refuse to go to them might be overscheduled. Talk with your kids about how they feel about extracurricu-
lar activities. If they complain, discuss the pros and cons of stopping one activity. If stopping isn't an option,
explore ways to help manage your child's time and responsibilities to lessen the anxiety. Also realize that
some things that aren't a big deal to adults can cause significant stress for kids. Let your kids know that you
understand they're stressed and don't dismiss their feelings as inappropriate.
Reducing Stress | How can you help kids cope with stress? Proper rest and good nutrition can boost coping
skills, as can good parenting. Make time for your kids each day. Sometimes kids just feel better when you
spend time with them on fun activities. Even as kids get older, quality time is important. if they've had a stress-
ful day themselves. Expressing interest shows your kids that they're important to you.
Help your child cope with stress by talking about what may be causing it. Together, you can come up with a
few solutions. You also can help by anticipating potentially stressful situations and preparing kids for them. Re-
member that some level of stress is normal; let your kids know that it's OK to feel angry, scared, lonely, or anx-
ious and that other people share those feelings. Reassurance is important, so remind them that you're confi-
dent that they can handle the situation. Remember : “Be a child to help your child”
