Mother’s DayI love that we set aside a whole day to honor and celebrate the women who raised us, as many of us find ourselves shifting between the joy of remembering our mothers and the pain of no longer having them with us. Today, I wanted to sit down and type up a little letter to all moms, encouraging you to fully appreciate the season you’re in. Mothers are beautiful; they are selfless, yet strong. Mother’s Day holds a special place for many of our own hearts because of the little ones who made us mom. I hope you feel extra special and so loved and celebrated this Mother’s Day. Just know you are loved and appreciated.7 Things You Don’t Know About Mother’s Day

1. Mother’s Day started as an antiwar movement.

2. President Wilson made it a holiday.

3. The French once gave medals to their mothers.

4. Mother’s Day is also the busiest of the year for phone traffic in countries all around the globe.

5. Americans spend $2.4 billion on Mother’s Day flowers.

6. Mother’s Day index estimates that it would cost $67,619 a year to hire someone to do all the households tasks that mom does for free.

7. It’s a big celebration in Mexico.

Motherly Humor! One day, a little girl is sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly notices that her mother has several strands of white hair. She looks at her mother and inquisitively asks, “why are some of your hairs white, Mom?” Her mother replied, “well, every time you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white.” The little girl thought about this revelation for awhile and then asked, “Mom, how come all of grandma’s hairs are white?”

How Do You Know You’re a Mom?You know you’re a mom when...1. You stop criticizing the way your

mother raised you.2. You automatically double-knot

everything you tie.3. You spend an entire week

wearing sweats.4. Your feet stick to the kitchen floor,

and you don’t care.

5. You serve peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at least once a day.

6. You buy cereal with marshmallows in it.

7. You hope ketchup is a vegetable, since it’s the only one your child eats.

Sun HatsA little bit of sun exposure is good for you. It’s how your body gets vitamin D, which is essential for absorbing calcium to make your bones stronger. Scientifically, sunshine has a lot of benefits for our bodies. One, it improves your sleep. Research indicates that an hour of natural light in the morning will help you sleep better. Two, it reduces stress and maintains strong bones. The sun helps keep the weight off; getting outside for 30 minutes is essential to your health. The sun can strengthen your immune system. Remember, everything in moderation. A sun hat can help protect you from harsh UV Rays, and it can work as a natural barrier against too much sun. The truth is, sun hats are absurdly stylish; they’re a classic that have never gone out of style. Remember, sun hats don’t just have to match your outfit, they can also match your personality. Find one, or some, that fit who you are as a person. Between the look and the protection, sun hats are worthy of your love.

Things will improve radically after that; expect a few surprises due to the influence of the sun. Financials require more attention. Things will improve during the latter part of the month.

Fascinating Facts About the History of Cinco de Mayo

The holiday is more celebrated in the United States than in Mexico. In Chandler, Arizona, they hold Chihuahua dog races on this day.1. 70 million pounds

of avocado are eaten on May 5th in the U.S.

2. The official dish of Cinco de Mayo is not margaritas. It is mole poblano, a rich-tasting dark red-brown sauce.

3. Napoleon III had a specific interest in taking over Puebla. He wanted to turn the Puebla area into a base that would help the confederate Army during the American Civil War.

4. President Franklin Roosevelt helped bring Cinco de Mayo celebrations to the U.S. The holiday started to be celebrated after President Roosevelt created the Good Neighbor Policy in 1933 to improve relations with Latin American countries.

Thank You, Nurses! As the largest group of health care workers, nurses provide care in jobs throughout our communities, with many of these women and men serving on the front lines. • Worldwide, there are 20 million nurses. Over 4

million nurses are on the job in the U.S. • The majority of registered nurses work in

hospitals. The rest serve in long-term care facilities, at clinics and schools, and in other settings.

• Every year, there’s a whole week dedicated to them. Celebrated May 6th—12th, National Nurses Week ends on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.

• A lamp symbolizes the nursing career. Nightingale was known as the “lady with the lamp,” since she carried one with her at night while checking on her patients.

• The world’s first nursing school is said to have started in 250 B.C. in India. Only men could attend.

• Today, women make up 90% of the field. • The first American to earn a diploma for nursing

was Linda Richards, who graduated in 1873 from a program in Boston.

• There are over 100 different nursing specialties. • Nurses walk a lot! On average, a hospital nurse

walks 4 to 5 miles during a 12-hour shift. • For the past two decades, nursing has been

voted the most-trusted profession.

Reducing Food Cravings Naturally

Which one of the following is your favorite food?1. Pizza2. Chocolate3. Chips4. Cookies5. Fries6. Ice cream

These are the most addictive foods, according to the Yale Food Addiction survey. Drink water; thirst is often confused with hunger or food cravings. Also, eat more protein. Eating more protein may reduce your appetite and keep you from overeating. A good idea is to distance yourself from the craving; for example, you can take a brisk walk or join in our exercise class at 9:30 a.m. in the bistro. A change in thought and environment may help stop the craving. Some studies show that chewing gum can help appetite and cravings. Avoid getting extremely hungry. Hunger is one the reasons why we experience cravings. Mindful eating is a powerful tool to gain control of your eating habits. Following the tips on the list, such as eating more protein, planning and practicing mindfulness, may allow you to take charge next time cravings try to take over.

PassoverJewish people around the world prepared for Passover, which began on March 27th. No other holiday shouts family time louder than Passover. Passover is a time of year when we come together to recount our collective narrative. The Seder is the retelling of the story of enslaved people who were free from bondage and made their way through the desert to arrive in the promised land. In some ways, here in 2021, this story feels more alive and relevant than ever, as so much of the story mirrors our current reality. The Seder teaches us that we learn best by doing. Judaism blends the spiritual with the physical, expressing lofty ideals in physical ways.Six parts of the Seder plate

1. Beitzah: Egg represents symbolizes the spring season.

2. Chazeret: Vegetable recalling the Egyptian slavery.3. Zeroa: Shank bone is symbolic of the paschal lamb offered as the

Passover sacrifice in biblical times.4. Charoset: Mixture of fruits, nuts, spices and wine eaten as part of

the Passover Seder. Reminds us of the bricks and mortar used by the Israelite slaves.

5. Karpas: A green herb symbolize spring and rebirth. The green herb is dipped into salt water and serves as a reminder of the tears shed during Egyptian slavery.

6. Maror: Symbolized the bitter plight of the enslaved Israelites.

EasterAmericans have been vaccinated, and gatherings are allowed in many states. The holy season was upon us with a mix of excitement, enthusiasm and caution. It’s just so wonderful when there is something to look forward to!

Almost ThereThe champagne is chilling, and we’re all about ready to pop! Things are beginning to open up, and there is light at the end of the tunnel. We can’t wait for the days of hugs, hospitality, friends and movie theaters; these previous pleasures are starting to feel within reach. March marks a full year since we retreated to our personal pods, and most of us are ready to burst out of our bubble. Phase 2 reopening in California has begun; a variety of different businesses were able to open their doors back up, with limitations.

Memorial DayObserved with ceremonies and parades, Memorial Day honors the men and women who gave their lives while serving in the U.S. military. After the Civil War ended in 1865, people in various cities began decorating the graves of the fallen soldiers with flowers, flags and wreaths. Memorial Day is to memorialize the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. We spend time remembering the veterans who lost their lives and could not come home, reflecting on their service and why we have the luxury and freedom we enjoy today. From everyone here at The Palms at La Quinta, we would like to say thank you to those men and women who paid the ultimate price. We will always remember the sacrifice of our nation’s heroes. We are deeply grateful.Memorial Day Trivia

1. What was Memorial Day formerly known as? Decoration Day2. At what time does congress ask Americans to pause for a moment of

remembrance on Memorial Day? 3 p.m. In 2000, President Bill Clinton signed the remembrance act, which asks Americans to pause for one minute at 3 p.m. in an act of national unity.

3. What flower is traditionally worn as a remembrance of those who have died in war? In war-torn battlefields, the red field poppy was one of the first plants to grow. The practice of wearing of poppies in honor of fallen soldiers was inspired by the poem “In Flanders Fields,” written in 1915 by Canadian soldier John Mccrae.
