    *OPENING PRAYER

*HYMN OF PRAISE NO. 82 ―Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven” +++ CHORAL ANTHEM “Glorious Everlasting” Cousins

Chancel Choir PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison)

Merciful God, you plant each of us like seeds in the same field, and together we are nourished and nurtured by the sun. We sway in the wind and are refreshed by the rain. We are blessed by the knowledge that you want us to grow toward what you call us to be. When we deprive others of that same opportunity, forgive us. When we want to uproot those whom we believe do not belong in our part of the field, forgive us. When we label others as good or bad rather than accept them for who they are, forgive us. When we are reluctant to acknowledge that we ourselves are a mixture of weeds and wheat, forgive us. When we are afraid to look into the fields of our own lives to see what is growing there, forgive us. O God, you know us inside and out, through and through. You search us out and lay your hand upon us. You know what we are going to say even before we speak. So we pray that you will help us to reach out to the uprooted and rejected, the lonely and the outcast, and to develop and grow the good in ourselves, in others, and in the world. This we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen (silence for personal confession) —Moira Laidlaw’s Liturgies

SONG OF RESPONSE NO. 85 ―I Love You, Lord‖ I love you, Lord, and I lift my voice to worship you, O my soul, rejoice! Take joy, my King, in what you hear: may it be a sweet, sweet sound in your ear.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD’S PRAYER (unison) Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as

it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Salvation Army “Keep It Clean” Drive

During the month of February, the Deacons are collecting dental and general hygiene items for the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army has identified the following items as needed:

Toilet Paper Shampoo Conditioner Men/Women’s Deodorant Toothpaste Body Soap (bars) Disposable Razors Shaving Cream

There will be a collection bin in the lower Narthex throughout February. If you have questions, please contact Craig Blunk at 248-719-1203 or at [email protected] Thank you.

The Caregivers' Support Group monthly meeting will be Monday, February 12th. In addition to our usual opportunities to share and to learn from others, this month we will be treated to live music provided by Karen Danke and a stress reduction practice led by Sharon Holcomb. The FPCP deacons provide a light supper of soup and bread at 6:30. The meeting begins at 7 o'clock. There is no need to RSVP and you are welcome to join the group for as many, or few, meetings as you wish. The group meets in the Hearth room, next to the church library. As always, if you are, or have been, a caregiver, or wish to learn more about the group you are welcome to attend.

What is Per Capita? Per Capita is an amount of money, for each member (this year, $26), that our congregation

shares with our larger Presbyterian Church, USA. Presbyterians believe we discern best what God is calling us to do

when we gather together, “seek[ing] … to find and represent the will of Christ” (Book of Order, F-3.0204).

Per capita funding is how we mutually share the costs of coming together to discern the Spirit’s leading for the fu-

    ture.

For example, the funding provides for the cost of bringing together:

commissioners and advisory delegates to the General Assembly (as well as the cost of planning and holding the

    meeting)

church leaders from presbyteries and synods for training events

necessary tools to develop and administer ordination exams to seminarians preparing to become future pastors

those who are elected by the GA to serve on permanent GA committees (as well as each committee’s work), such

as the GA Nominating Committee and the GA Committee on Representation

Please prayerfully consider adding a Per Capita amount to your 2018 Pledge.

Did you know there are only three churches designated by PC (USA) as an Earth Care Congregation in the entire state of Michigan?

Those churches are First Presbyterian Church Tecumseh, Kalamazoo First Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth. The Partners in Earth Care team at FPCP has worked hard to attain and maintain this designation. At our meeting on Tuesday, February 27th, at 7:00 p.m. we will have the opportunity to learn what First Presbyterian Church Tecumseh is doing as an Earth Care Congregation when Andy King visits our church. Many of you know/remember Andy from when he and his wife, Cathi, were members of our church. We invite all members of our church to come to this open meeting in the Hearth Room to meet with Andy and hear what earth care activities Tecumseh church is involved in. Hope to see you there!!!

Plastic Bag Recycling Did you know that plastic handled bags, Ziploc bags as well as trash bags are

recyclable in the City of Plymouth? The solid waste department of the City of Plymouth has told us that clean plastic handled bags, including Ziploc and garbage bags, are recyclable. They also shared that when deposited singly into the curbside bins they tend to blow off the conveyor belts when they reach the processing facility. It was recommended that any loose bags, including garbage bags, be tucked inside each other, creating a ‘bag of bags’. Other items should not be inside the bags. Loose bags clog the machinery and that is why some communities have stopped accepting plastic bags. These communities DO NOT recycle plastic bags: Plymouth Twp., Northville Twp., City of Northville and Canton. The City of Livonia does accept plastic bags. If your community does not accept plastic bags for recycling, please bring them to church and place them in the collection bin in the lower level. The Willing Hands Circle will use this bags to crochet “Plarn Mats” for the homeless (see the FPCP Partners in Earth Care bulletin board for more information).

    Presbyterian Women

Willing Hands learned how to make plastic mats for the homeless to sleep on. We will meet again on February 21st for this ongoing project. It is a creative and fun way to serve God’s people. Here are ways you can support this mission: Drop off plastic shopping bags in the bin in the basement collection area Cut and tie plastic bag strips into balls of ‘plarn’ Crochet the strips into mats PRAY for this mission Contact Linda Luke at 734-812-4516 or Bev MacGaw at 734-453-7224 with questions. This project is open to women of all ages and skill levels.

Be sure to stop by the FPCP Presbyterians for Earth Care bulletin board to offer your suggestion on how we can better care for our

earth, our community, our church and our fellow members. Based on one congregant’s suggestion, starting in March, we will start collecting and recycling ink cartridges (personal size only) on the first Sunday each month. Help us to better serve our church community!

The Lent 2018 Daily Reflection / Action Calendar, “Tread Lightly for Lent,” is now available. The calendar was created by the ―Presbyterian Hunger Program’s Environmental Ministries‖ and ―Enough for Everyone‖ offices at PC (USA). In Lent, we reflect on Christ’s ministry, death, and resurrection. We slow down, take time, and examine our internal spiritual lives and the way we live out our Christian faith in the world around. This Lenten calendar begins with ways to prepare ourselves for the Lent and Easter season and then moves to weekly focus of women, creation, water, consumption, and social justice. Copies of the calendar are available on the FPCP Partners in Earth Care bulletin board or online at www.presbyterianmission.org/resource/tread-lightly-lent-2018/
