FROM THE DESK OF FR. ARENS My friends, This weekend brings many blessings to our parishes. On Sunday, in the morning, we celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on our Confirmation candidates in Sherburn. God's gifts will now be with them to strengthen them to be witnesses to Christ in the world. We certainly need more people who will stand up for Christ and help bring His presence to our suffering world. We offer our Confirmandi our prayers and congratulations as they begin this next stage in their lives of faith. On Sunday we also celebrate our special deanery Year of Mercy liturgy in Heron Lake. This year has been such a gift from our Holy Father and in many ways, we have seen God's mercy in action. Now we gather to receive and celebrate one of God's greatest gifts. Thanks to all who helped make the day's celebration very special. May God's mercy be the center of our lives, so that we might not only have our own sins forgiven, but also so that we might be generous in showing mercy to others. God's grace is alive and active in our communities. As we celebrate these special Masses, we give due honor and thanks to God for all He continues to accomplish among us. In Christ, Fr. Arens

BREWSTER

IF YOU WERE at Mass last Saturday, you saw Father Arens bless our new communion chalices. These chalices are a beautiful gift to our parish and were purchased using memorial money from our deceased parishioners. A savings account holds this money for liturgical needs.

THE WORTHINGTON AREA CCW meeting will be held at St. Adrian's Parish on Tuesday, October 25th, at 7:00PM. Please take part in "SOCKTOBER" Fest by bringing a pair of socks to be donated to St. Francis House in Sioux Falls. If you cannot make this meeting and would like to donate, please bring them to church and leave them on the table in the entrance.

HERON LAKE

CONGRATULATIONS to all our students who received the Sacrament of Confirmation today in Sherburn: Ethan Becker, Tyler Brunk, Jessica Christoffer, Taylor DeWall, Brianna Hinkeldey, Taylor Johanning, Vanessa Juarez, Cohle Rostomily and Rachel Salentiny. May God bless you as you continue on your journey of the Catholic Faith.

NO FAITH FORMATION classes next Wednesday, October 19th, due to MEA break. See you all back on the 26th.

DONATE TO THE "SOCKTOBER" FEST that is happening at the next Worthington Area CCW meeting at St. Adrian's Parish in Adrian at 7:00PM, on October 25th! We are asking for donations of warm socks that will be given to the St. Francis House in Sioux Falls. Donations can be left in the box at the back of church by Sunday, October 23rd. If attending this meeting, you are also asked to bring extra flower bulbs for exchange.

THE BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN offers a two-fold purpose. First, all money collected will be used to assist Catholic Charities’ Pregnancy, Parenting, and Adoption Social Workers to have an option for women in our Diocese who are in need of a financial boost. Secondly, the campaign raises awareness concerning the day-to-day efforts on behalf of women. This campaign is a perfect project for providing individuals and families a chance to offer a real response to women choosing life over abortion. Remember to return your bottles to the crib in the church entrance by October 30th. Thank you!

STATUS OF CHURCH REPAIR: Some have questioned why we have not begun the interior repair on the church walls that have water damage. To prevent further damage, the exterior church walls are in need of tuck pointing before we can proceed with interior work. It was our hope that we would be able to get that tuck pointing done this summer but now looks like Sacred Heart Church will not be scheduled until next spring.

WINDOM

CONFIRMATION is being held at St. Luke’s Church in Sherburn this morning. Please keep in your prayers our six Confirmandi: Kaden Elder, Luke Gilbertson, Daniel Green, Weston Osland, Jacob Schaffer and Jeffrey Wright.

WINDOM CCW will meet Thursday, October 20th, at 7:00PM in the Church Hall. Coffee and pie will be served. All parish women are invited to attend.

SLAYTON AREA CCW will meet Saturday, October 29th, in Fulda at St. Gabriel’s Church. This is our 9:30AM Memorial Mass. Please bring your scrolls of deceased members.

MEALS ON WHEELS: St. Francis Xavier is responsible for delivering meals for the month of November. Your help is needed. Please call Wanda Stone at (507) 831-3600 or 822-1642 to volunteer. We have 3 delivery routes which require a minimum of 6 volunteers per day. Thanks to all those who continue to volunteer for this service and welcome to all new members.

THE BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN: With economic concerns cited as a significant reason why women in Minnesota are having abortions, it seems all the more vital for the Diocese of Winona and Catholic Charities to be collecting spare change. Pick up a baby bottle at the entrances to the church today to help Catholic Charities’ Mother and Child Assistance Fund provide women who are considering adoption and/or parenting with financial assistance. The raised funds help women and children right here in our Diocese! Bottles can be returned to Kathy in the office or left in the baskets provided at Church entrances by October 30th.

THE 26th ANNUAL Middle School Youth Festival is scheduled for Sunday, October 30th, 1:30-6:00PM. This event for grades 6, 7, and 8, will be held at St. Adrian Church and the Adrian Elementary

School. The theme for this year is “Mercy-Workin’ It Like St. Teresa of Calcutta”. In order to experience a Work of Mercy, the youth will be making “Birth-at-Home” bags for the Missions of Haiti. Our parish is being asked to donate sanitary napkins for these bags. Our goal is 300 napkins. Look for the box marked “Birth-at-Home Bag” Donations at the entrance of the church. Questions? Call Jess at 830-1406.

NEWS NOTES FOR ALL PARISHES

RESPECT LIFE: Have you heard of the “Spiritual Adoption Prayer? The late Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen encouraged the spiritual adoption of a pre-born child. This is done by praying that one particular, but unknown child’s life be spared abortion. It was recommended an individual say the following daily prayer for a period of one year. “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the pre-born baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.” During your earthly life this spiritually adopted child of yours will be known only to God, but in the world to come it is hoped that you will meet the child whose life was spared by your prayers and spend eternal happiness with them. PROPAGATION OF FAITH COLLECTION

By Baptism, all Catholics are called to participate in the mission of the Church, called to share their faith as missionaries. World Mission Sunday gathers support for the pastoral and evangelizing programs and needs of more than 1,150 mission dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and remote regions of Latin America. The funds gathered on World Mission Sunday, October 23rd, are distributed in the pope’s name by the Society for the Propagation of the Faith – a Pontifical Mission Society. OUR LADY OF FATIMA PILGRIM STATUE: In celebration of the upcoming 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima, the Diocese of Winona welcomes the world-famous International Pilgrim Virgin Statue which has been traveling worldwide for nearly 70 years. On October 24, 1952, Pope Pius XII blessed the statue and imparted a special blessing on the work of the Fatima Pilgrim Tours. Many miracles and signal graces are reported wherever the statue travels. On more than 30 occasions, the statue is reported to have shed human tears. The Pilgrim Virgin Statue will be displayed on October 26th, at St. Mary’s Church in Worthington, MN. Mass will be celebrated at 8:15AM, followed by a presentation and at 1:30PM, Living Rosary.

COR JESU: The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart will be hosting Cor Jesu, a night of Eucharistic Adoration, Confession, and Praise & Worship. The first evening will be on Friday, November 4th, from 7:00-9:00PM. All are welcome to attend - invite your family and friends! For more details, search Winona Cor Jesu on Facebook, or go to winonacorjesu.gitlab.io

The Catholic Ministries Appeal On behalf of those who benefit from the Catholic Ministries Appeal, thank you for your generosity! Remember the words of Jesus, “whatever you do for the least of my brothers and sisters, you do for me.” If you have not already contributed, please return your CMA envelope / pledge card today, or give online at www.catholicfsmn.org/Appeal.
