PARISH OF ST CUTHBERT EGHAM One Parish Family – Two places for Worship OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION ST JOHN OF ROCHESTER Harvest Road, Englefield Green Rochester Road, Egham Hythe Egham, TW20 0QR TW18 3HN SUNDAY 23 rd AUGUST 2015 – 21 ST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Masses this week: The Assumption Sat 22 nd - 6.00pm The Jones Family Sun 23 rd - 11.00am Kathleen Campbell Tues 25 th - 9.15am Chris Jones & Family Fri 28 th - 10.00am Sat 29 th - 6.00pm The Jones Family Sun 30 th - 11.00am Otilia Pozo R.I.P. My eldest nephew’s wedding is in the morning. Similarly on Bank Holiday Monday, no Mass because of a family gathering. In our gardens, the Sunflowers are in full bloom and looking good once again, as is the selection of beans. They are there for the picking so do please help yourselves. Wednesday’s rain will have helped them to grow – we have now had 8/10” of rain this past week. I found a rain gauge on holiday! Blackberries are in abundance as well, and especially at St John’s – again please do pick them. Blackberrying is a wonderful past-time activity for all the family. They freeze well and make a superb jelly to go with your toast in the morning! I have already converted 3lbs to jelly. This weekend you have attached to your newsletter the second of the Family Group leaflets which explains more about the set-up of our groups. It is an exciting new initiative, as you can see, for all of us to be engaged with. Some of the plans we are putting in place will identify possible leaders and group us together in our neighbourhoods. For example, there are large numbers of our families in Harvest Road, Hythefield Avenue, Glebe Road, Simon’s Walk, Grange Road etc, all forming natural groups. In time I shall pass known families’ names to the co-ordinator in your area. I think this will be a real benefit to new parishioners too, as well as visitors working at our University. This week:

Monday - Feast of St BartholomewThursday - Memorial of St MonicaFriday - Memorial of St Augustine of HippoSaturday - Memorial of the Beheading of St John the Baptist

Next weekend there is no Saturday morning Mass.

We shall formally sign up on the first weekend in September – in just a fortnight. Please do keep the leaflets and pass on to friends who may be away at this time.

Mass offerings/intentions have now run out. Whilst Cath takes a break in September I will deal with these directly.

Assisted Dying Bill: If you have yet to post a card or letter to your MP please do so. Cards and draft letters remain at the back of both churches.

Parish Social: Tickets are on sale this weekend at all three Masses for our Family Social on 5th September (details overleaf).

Welcome to the family of the church Lauren Campbell who was recently Baptized.

Jubilee 50 MemoriesMany photos were taken by those who attended this great day in July. Are you willing to print off a couple of your favourites? Bring them along to make a display on the grey noticeboards in either church. Share the good times!-----------------------------------------------------

Rosary GroupFlorence, who lives in the Egham station area, is willing to host this group. The first meeting is Wednesday 2nd Sept, 2pm-4pm. If you are interested in joining the group please call Florence on 01784 435041.----------------------------------------------------

Merlewood Nursing HomeMerlewood is looking to build its team of volunteers to chat with residents and perhaps to read to those who are visually impaired. It is an important work, especially as a church we are supporting the defence of the elderly at this time of the Assisted Dying Bill.-----------------------------------------------------

Marriage CourseThere will be a marriage course running in October at Our Lady of the Rosary parish in Staines for all married couples. It is a seven week course to have time to appreciate, renew and focus on your marriage. A romantic meal is included and there is no group work.
