SEPTEMBER 1, 2019

Dear Friends, Happy Labor day weekend! As we begin this new pastoral year, I want to welcome Father Richard Conlon who joins us in the parish as full time parochial vicar. Father Conlon was ordained in 1990, and most recently served as pastor at St. Teresa of Avila – St. Anthony of Padua parish in South Ozone Park. I am very happy he is joining us—please give him a warm welcome!

Just to give you a little preview of upcoming events: RA Catholic Academy opens up for the new semester this Wednesday, September 4th. The food pantry also resumes its regular schedule that day. Next Sunday, September 8th, Bishop DiMarzio will join us for the 11AM Mass when he will formally install me as Pastor. (For that reason, we will not resume the 9:30 Sunday Mass until September 15th when we will have a Special family liturgy). Our Religious Education Classes resume for the new semester on Sunday, September 22nd. And that is just the beginning.

Whatever we do here at RA is meant to ultimately deepen our relationship with Jesus. The more we come to know Jesus, the more we will come alive in word and witness, in service and hospitality.

Our Scripture readings today find Jesus once again at dinner with people. He highlights the importance of humility. But even beyond that, he suggests an invitation list that is longer than almost any of us would ever imagine. He says: “When you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you.” May Jesus show us the way to a broad love of others, just like his! Peace, Fr.

Paz, Padre Tom
