The Presentation of the Lord February 1–2, 2020
A Note from Our Pastor,
This weekend we observe the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple of Je-rusalem shortly after His birth. Candles are blessed to commemorate Christ as the “Light
for all the nations.” In some parts of the world this marks the 40th and last day of the Christmas Season. We’ll be having blessing of candles at the 10:30am Sunday Mass. Monday we commemorate St Blaise, bishop in Armenia, martyred in the early 4th century, and remembered for a miraculous healing of a severe illness of the throat. Here at St. Agatha’s we’ll have a general blessing of throats at the weekend Masses, as well as the opportunity for individual blessings after Mass, and then at our 2 morning Masses on Monday.
Please peruse this week’s bulletin for details about the many events this week at St. Agatha’s:
on Monday: RCIA at 7pm in the Rectory Conference Room;
Pizza and Prayer for High School Teens in the Gathering Space;
on Tuesday: Discussion on Rediscovering the Saints right after the 9am Mass;
Nocturnal Adoration from 7 to 8pm;
on Wednesday: Coffee and Conversation after the 7 and 9am Masses; the 9am Mass will be in the Upper Church with the School community to celebrate the Memorial of our Patron- ess St. Agatha;
on Friday: Norfolk County Catholics – Young Adult Group (19-39) will meet here, and all young adults are invited for the oppor- tunity for Confession (6:15pm), Mass (7pm), Eucharistic Adoration (7:30pm), and dinner at Brick and Beam (8:15pm) (with childcare provided for young parents);
on Saturday and Sunday: our Respect Life Annual Baby Shower (in the Gathering Space after all week- end Masses (except 5pm)).
In addition, I hope that many of you will take part in the Focus Groups this coming Wednesday and Thursday (times below; location: Meeting Room/Library off of Gathering Space) to provide input on needs and opportuni-ties in our parish that you would like to see funded in our upcoming Centennial Campaign.
Have a blessed week!
Fr. Palardy
Please call Lisa Gulino, our Pastoral Associate at 617-698-2439 X 209
and she will arrange for a minister of communion to bring Eucharist to you.
Parish Planning Study Focus Groups
As you are aware, Father Palardy and our parish leadership has initiated a parish-wide Planning Study to formulate a strategy for addressing some needs we have at the parish in anticipation of our Centennial celebration in 2022. This includes completing the funding for the preservation work done to the exterior of our beautiful Church and beginning restoration work on our church organ. Additionally, we are also considering establishing an en-dowment fund for innovative outreach and pastoral programs for both youth and adults. We would also like to update the technol-ogy at our school.
You are invited to participate in a Focus Group so that we may complete this study with your open and honest input. These hour-long meetings will take place as follows:
Focus Groups
Wednesday, February 5th after the 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM Daily Masses
Thursday, February 6th at 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM
Focus Groups will be held at the church and are open to all parishioners. Please select a date and time
that is most convenient for you. Thank you for your continued support.
Cold & flu season is upon us! To minimize expo-sure to our parishioners, distribution of the Precious Blood will be suspended until the season passes. Also, a verbal greeting is acceptable during the Sign of Peace, if you prefer not to shake hands.
Nocturnal Adoration The next Nocturnal Adoration
will take place on Tuesday evening, February 4th
Adoration and Rosary from 7:00-8:00pm
All are welcome!
Eucharistic Adoration We are never closer to God than when we are in the Divine Presence of the Most Holy Eucharist and when we are receiving Him in Holy Communion.
Please join us at the following parishes:
Sacred Heart Chapel, North Quincy: Tues, 12pm-3pm
St. Ann (Lower Church), Wollaston: Thurs, 12pm-3pm
St. Agatha (Lower Church), Milton: Fri, 9:30am-1pm
THEME: Jesus, our Redeemer, came to live among us and light the path to Salvation.
As you listen to this Scripture story today, what is one word or thought that really struck you? What image do you take away from this reading?
Gospel : Luke 2:22-32 When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, Mary and Joseph took Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord, and to offer the sacrifice of a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons, in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord.
Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Christ of the Lord. He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying:
“Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in the sight of all the peoples: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.”
Pastoral Planning
February 2 ~ The Presentation of the Lord On this feast of the Presentation, the Gospel of Luke gives us a lovely scene on which to reflect. Mary and Joseph bring the child Jesus to the Temple to present him to the Lord. In the Temple, both Simeon and Anna, elders in the Temple, recognized Jesus as the Messiah, and gave wit-ness to his presence. We come to Mass each week and re-ceive Jesus Christ in Holy Communion. As we go forth from Mass today, we too give witness to Christ. Let us pray that in all we say and do, Christ will be visibly pre-sent in our lives.
If you haven’t had a chance recently to check out the St. Agatha Parish website, you’re in for a real treat. It was completely re-designed last year and a number of new fea-tures have been added. On the site you can not only keep up with what is happening in the Parish, you can sign up for On-line Giving. You can get a wealth of information on what is happening in the Archdiocese of Boston and in the Church around the world. You can get information on the Saints, and with the Feast of St. Agatha coming up this Wednesday that is very timely. You can also find out about Mass times anywhere in the United States in case you’re travelling. There is also a link to St. Agatha School so you can find out what is happening in this very im-portant ministry of the parish. The list of links seems al-most endless. There are also some very well done videos produced by one of our parishioners—Kathy Riordan—who uses her expertise with drone photography to provide some fascinating views of the Church. You may remember that she did one last year of the exterior of the Church which was magnificent. Right now there are two more vid-eos. The first is of the interior of the Church fully decorat-ed for Christmas and put to music. It’s fantastic. There is also a video presentation of the parish’s Christmas Giving Tree Project which gives you a good idea of what that long-running ministry accomplishes every year. If you have a few minutes have some fun and check out the videos. And if you see Kathy around, congratulate and thank her for her great work.
In addition to the Offertory total below $4,031was contrib-uted to the Second Collection for the Church in Latin America. Thank you for your support of both the Parish and the Missions.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to introduce myself in this Sacred Pause column. My name is Gabrielle Hunt, I am a young adult member of the parish and I live and work here in Milton as a high school science teacher and dorm parent at Milton Academy.
My life as a young adult can only be described as being con-stantly surprised by the gratuitous patience and love of Je-sus Christ. We are all currently in the midst of a season of Ordinary Time, however, as a priest reminded me recently, there is absolutely nothing ordinary about spending time with Jesus in the Eucharist during ordinary time.
Friday, February 7th, 6:15pm-8:30 pm, St. Agatha’s will be hosting an opportunity for young adults in their 20s and 30s to encounter Jesus in the Eucharist.
We will gather at St. Agatha’s for confession, Mass and then Adoration.
Afterwards, we will head over to Brick and Beam in Quincy for some fun and fellowship!
If you are a parent, we will provide childcare during the church portion of the evening.
I would like to take this opportunity to personally invite anyone who is seeking to deepen their faith as well as their relation-ships with other local young adults who love fun and love Jesus. This event is co-sponsored by a very active organization —Norfolk County Catholics—whose vision is to unite, revive, and grow the Catholic young adult community in our county.
Parents, grandparents and friends, please give this invite to a young adult in your life. There is no greater gift than presenting a loved one with the opportunity to expe-rience the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus!
Blessings, Gabrielle Hunt

Congratulations to our Faith Formation Students and St. Agatha School Students who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time last Saturday. A truly special time in their lives as they experience God’s loving mercy of forgiveness and peace which this Sacrament brings. Many contribute to educating our youth in our Catholic faith, especially in preparing to receive a Sacrament. Thank you to the children’s parents, the Faith Formation Catechists and the Saint Agatha School Teachers, who prepared the children so well. Following the Reconciliation Service everyone enjoyed a lovely ice cream celebration. Many hands made it a perfect event; we thank and are grateful to the parents who donated ice cream, toppings, and treats along with our high school volunteers who setup, served and cleaned up the event. It was a beautiful day!
Cans of soup are being collected to donate to our local food pantries in Quincy and Milton thru February 13. We are currently at 25% of our goal of 500 cans!
If you have not already done so please have your child bring their donation to their session.
Thank you Grade 3 Students who are hosting Family Mass today!
Sessions will not be held on February 18-19-20 due to the February School Vacation Break.
We follow the Milton Public School system for all school cancellations due to inclement weather. When possible, Faith Formation cancellation announcements will be sent via email and noted on our website.
