Seasons

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.

(Ecclesiastes 3:1) One of the reasons I enjoy being a North Dakotan is because of

the four seasons. I enjoy seeing the changes that come with each season; the cold

and the snow of winter, where the cool crisp air can sometimes take your breath

away. How clean and undisturbed everything can look after a snowfall. And then

spring is here, with its newness of life that starts to push its way out of hiding. The

cool mornings, warm afternoons, the first rains of the new season which washes

away the remnants of winter. The flowers start blooming, gardens and crops are

being planted, trees are budding and the grass is turning from its winter color to

green. Then all of a sudden summer is here, with all of its activity, roots have

taken hold, the warm rains and warm sun is making everything grow. The days

have grown longer. We try and slow down a little bit more to enjoy the warmth of

the sun as it shines down on us and the cool breezes in the evening as we sit and

visit with family and friends. The days turn shorter and the sun doesn’t have the

same warmth. Fall has arrived. The season of growing has come to an end. The

flowers quit blooming, the leaves on the trees start turning from green, to brown,

red, orange and yellow, and then begin to fall, the grass finally quits growing.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Everything Has Its Time

3 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: 2 a time to be born, and a time to die;

a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; 3 a time to kill, and a time to heal;

a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh;

a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5 a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;

a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 a time to seek, and a time to lose;

a time to keep, and a time to throw away; 7 a time to tear, and a time to sew;

a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 a time to love, and a time to hate;

a time for war, and a time for peace.

I believe that everything has a season. That everything is in its own season what-

ever that season is. And yet we can sometimes get stuck in a season and not realize

that it’s been winter or spring or summer or fall for way to long. Sometimes we

need a push or a gentle nudge to help us get into that next season. What season are

you in?

To God be the glory forever and ever. Amen

Greetings Youth & Parents!

We are looking at a youth trip this summer for the senior high youth, grades 9th through 12th, on

July 31st through August 1st, as a way for me to get to know you before we start the school year

and our Wednesday night activities. We would be looking at a fun retreat to kick things off with

a trip to Valley Fair in Minneapolis MN, and a stop at the Mall of America. I will have more

information available within the next couple weeks, but just wanted to get this out so you can

save the dates if you are interested. If you have a friend who you think might enjoy this let them

know also.

Change Makers Bike Rides 2017

FOR ELCA WORLD HUNGER

~ June 23-24, 2017 ~ 8 rides in the 8 conferences of the Eastern North Dakota Synod –

Celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation!

"Be the change you want to see in the world" – Ghandi

Plans are underway for the annual Change Makers Bike Ride in the Eastern ND Synod to raise

awareness and receive offerings for the ELCA Hunger program. This year our ride is expand-

ing in a huge way! Bishop Terry suggested we connect the 500th anniversary of the Reforma-

tion with our ride, but none of the organizers wanted to bike 500 miles. The solution? EIGHT

rides will take place on the same two days - one ride in each of the eight conferences of our

synod. Routes of approximately 60 miles in each conference will add up to about 500 miles!

Hunger is an international crisis. Many people around the world struggle to find enough food

to survive. It is true in our own state of ND that one out of seven are at risk for hunger. The

goal of these rides is to raise awareness of this issue, and to raise funds to help alleviate

hunger. For information on how to sign up for a ride, or how to contribute to ELCA World

Hunger, go online to www.eandsynod.org
