We are family…

The Lester family came to honor the memory of the patriarch of their family, in our All Saints Service held on November 1. Dr. Harold D. Lester went home to be with the Lord this past January--he was a good man…a humble man…a servant of Christ. He is deeply missed by his family, his many friends and church family as well. Pictured from left is Bob and Beth Lester Finch, Walt Finch, Proud grandma, Martha Lester (snuggled between her grandchildren), and Breland Finch. (Breland is Martha’s maiden name) Martha was the director of our Faith Kids choir for years and her granddaughter, Breland, was a star member that helped her get the choir going. Breland sang solos and knew everyone else’s speaking parts which was valuable to Martha as she could instantly fill in for anyone if there was a problem. All the kids in the choir loved Ms. Martha. Such a precious family with so many precious memories.

Our photographer, Sarah Reeves, just THOUGHT she wasn’t going to be in the pictures. Sarah is almost always behind the camera getting shots of her church family. But just about everyone has a smart phone these days! (Isn’t that right, Kevin?) Thanks for giving us a peek at the lady who goes out of her way to get pictures to add to our family album. John’s Current View

by John Compton

i.e. “Billy Bob”, “Jim Bill”, “Shortneck”, “Jughead”, “Ray Blair”; and you get my drift. Gary “String Bean” Seckman grew (and grew and grew) in Charleston until he found a couple of places to hide. As an accounting major he hid away as a Mountaineer at W.V. University. That was after he hid in the U.S. Navy for three years. Graduate school at General Motors University further equipped him to use his education and training to be a comptroller at several large and successful automobile dealerships. He has applied his skills at Sutherland Chevrolet in Nicholasville since 2013. He expects to keep working as long as his health allows. His longevity may be extended as long as his life partner (Sheri) makes the decision that his “health permits”. Maybe other talents will extend his produc-tivity. He continues to blow his own horn (trombone) wherever he can. His experience has been accumulating via membership in (1) Soul Bands; (2) a Rock Band; (3) a concert band; a Jazz Band; and playing with our Troubadours and Orchestra. He claims to enjoy photography as a hobby. However, as with so many husbands, “String Beane’s” greatest accomplishments gravitate to his wife of forty (40) years and an adult son who proudly graduated from U.K.!! Well, only little imagination was required for old “String Beane”!

Little “Beane Boy” Come Blow your Horn

Sometimes the information provided to me for my observations concerning members of our congregation is scarce. As a result my imagination must fill in the voids. For example, Gary Seckman discloses that his nickname in Charleston W.V. was “Beane”. Probably, from all current appearances, “Beane” was a second part of his nickname - - the first had to be “String”! Names in W. V. are like those in Kentucky...
