The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart. – Helen Keller

Brothers,

The months keep flying by here, it is already February 2019, can you believe it! January is usually a month of recovery from the Christmas season. This Year has not been any different than previous years. We took down all of our displays here at the Council hall, Main Street in the village and the church’s we support. A big thank you goes out to our K of C volunteers who put in the time and labor to make for a wonderful Christmas season for the community which we serve.

As you know the March for Life was held in Washington DC on the mall once again this year and by all accounts was a great success with over 300,000 participants. The Patchogue council was represented by PGK, FDD, FCOB/DDs, Current Advocate 725 SK Michael Boehm and PGK and Current DD of the 3rd district, SK William Fontaine.

Jan. 21st. we held a dinner and a movie at the council hall and what a success it was. The food was great and so was the movie (Unbroken) that was shown. We had a full house, with lots of good conversation and fun for all.

The news is in- the final numbers for this year’s C&B book sales and Patchogue is in the top tier again, 2nd place in fact. Thanks to the hard work of our charity drive Chairmen PGK John A. Praino and Brother Rich Acosta. Good job!

In the month of January I along with Brother Joe Brandi had the opportunity to visit with Brother Phil Sgro. We found Phil doing well and in good spirits at the Gazzola Drive Rehab facility. We had a good visit and he expressed his desire to get well and return to the council as soon as possible.

Saturday, 1/26/19, we held our annual Basketball Free throw at the St. Francis di Sales gymnasium. We had a nice turn out of boys and girls and thanks to our brother knights plenty of supervision. It’s always a fun morning.

Things to look forward to in February:

Our annual Super bowl party being held on Feb. 3rd at the Council hall! Doors opening at 5:45. Food will be provided and prepared by Chef Fuddy and crew. Wine, Beer, and soda will also be available. Please feel free to bring you own table snacks. The cost is $5.00 with reservation’s and $10.00 at the door. Please call Current DD Bill Fontaine (631)-988-3758 or John Terlecki (631) 576- 9950 for reservations.

While we should always keep the health and well-being of our brothers and Sisters in mind, let us all make effort to call fellow members we haven’t seen or heard from for a while or pay them visit. It will make a difference to them and yourself as well.

In closing my eighth memo from the Grand Knights desk, as always, it is my continued hope that we reach out to the parishes we support and provide the services and people whenever and wherever we are needed.

Vivat Jesus!

May our Council Prayers be on behalf of the following:

Pray for Brothers Jim Addie, Sammy Garafola, Rudy Carrabus and his wife Vicki, Jim Craig’s daughter Airen, Bill Mones’ wife Virginia, PGK

Willie Marciano and his wife Jean, Eddie O’Reilly, Gerry Restifo, Ernie Maller, Andrew Carollo, Ralph DePinto, Frank Cooper’s wife Virginia,

Phil Sgro, Keith Mandart, Robert Naurek, Rich Basak, Rich Costa’s Mother, Tony Russo, Santo Liguori, Tony Baffo, Al Freytag, Robert Rizzo,

Roy Schiebel’s wife and Joe Fontana’s girlfriend Grace Bessieres.

Below are our recent notifications:

We were sorry to hear about the passing of Brother Robert Coletto. May we pray for his family.

Brother Deacon Bob Lyon is in the process of transferring from Mary Immaculate Church to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. May

the Brothers that attend Mt. Carmel give Deacon Bob and his wife Mary Pat a warm Welcome and assist him in getting to know

the Parish and the parishioners. May we pray for Deacon Bob’s continued service to the Diaconate and his continued sharing of

his time and talents.

GK John Terlecki and Brother Joe Brandi visited Phil Sgro on January 17th. He was in good spirits. He is having to learn to walk

and has other issues, but is improving. He will continue to be at Gazzolla Dr. for a while. He is still reluctant to have visitors, but

was happy to see fellow Brothers. May you continue to keep him in your prayers.

We ask also that you pray for all of our Brother Knights who are in need and for their families and their needs, those we know about, and

the many that we do not know about.

Happy Birthday to All Members in the Month of February.

The January Chapter Meeting was held at Bishop McGann Council in Bay Shore. It was the Charity Drive

Kick-Off, but we also had the pleasure of the presence of our NY State Deputy Ken Latham. Our Worthy

SD came out to congratulate the 2017 International Soccer Challenge winner for girls age 12 from Our

Lady of Grace Council 11968 in West Babylon, Kelly Blanco. Also in the photo and presenting the Award

is NYS Auxiliary Chairman for Free Throw and Soccer for Suffolk County Mike Hearney, S.C. Conference

Chairman John Mastrosimone, John Creagen G.K. of 11968, and our Chapter Chairman Bob Elliott. Great

job Kelly, and special thanks to Mike Hearny for all of his hard work as well!!

Please get out and help to sell those Chapter Charity Award Books and Journal Ads. The

Charity Drive this year will benefit “Families in Arms”, which assists autistic children and

their families.

The next Chapter Meeting will be Friday February 15th at St. Regis Council in

Ronkonkoma.

The next Commander Shea Fourth Degree Meeting will be held on February 27th at Sts. Philip and James Church in St. James at 8 pm. FIRST SATURDAY EVENTS: Please help our Vets. District Deputy Report

Brothers,

Congratulations to all our new brothers that took their Admission and Formation

Degrees on January 17th at St. Jude Council in Rocky Point. My sincere thank

you to both Degree teams on a job well done as always. And mostly thank Gene

Johann and St. Jude Council for coordinating, cooking and setting up and

cleaning up such a very well attended Degree. 3rd Degree will be February 22nd and 1st Degree will be at Queen if all

Hearts (date to be announced).

I had the privilege of marching in the Right to Life March in Washington on January 18th. A very long day but a great

experience and would highly suggest that you make every attempt to get down there next year. I know that I am

going. You know that it will take the Federal Government to right the terrible wrong that was made in New York on

January 22nd.

On January 26th the District Free Throw was held. Congratulations to all our District winners and will see you March

9th at St. Cyril and Methodius in Deer Park.

Thank you for being a Knight and God Bless,

Bill

March For Life: On Friday January 18th PGK’s Mike Boehm FDD and Bill Fontaine DD attended the 46th Annual March for Life in Washington DC. It was a very long day, we left Patchogue to catch the bus at Our Lady of the Snow in Blue Point at 4:15 am and returned home at 1:15 am. the next morning. Special thanks to Loren Christie and the OLS Pro-Life Ministry for planning this trip. Pictured are the members of the Ministry along with Bill Fontaine and myself. It was a very rewarding day Marching and talking to so many pro-life people from all over the country. Our Supreme Knight Carl Anderson was

on hand and was one of the featured speakers, along with our Vice President Mike Pence and his wife Karen. The most notable thing was the large amounts of young people who were there and participating in the March. It is very encouraging to see that the youth of today is concerned about the unborn. I highly recommend that if you are able that you attend this event next year. I know I am.

On Saturday January 26th the Patchogue Knights of Columbus held their annual Free Throw Challenge at Holy Angels

Gym. Special thanks to GK John Terlecki and the Free Throw Chairman Bill

Fontaine PGK, DD for all their hard work on making this happen and to Fr. Steve from St. Francis for the use of the Gym,

and to Brother Pat Molluso for picking up the key.

We also want to thank all the Brothers who came down to help that morning and made this event such a success. We hope

to see you again next Year.
