The music legend collab we’ve all been waiting for is set to be released Maytember 31, 2019. The new album R3VIVAL is projected to go platinum and win a grammy. Before they all “died”

Michael Jack-son, Tupac, And the king of rock Elvis Presley came together and made a few tracks. They have given me a sneak peak of they’re album. They have given

me permission to give you an over view of three songs and the meaning behind them! Song number one. Listening to this song puts you in a mood like no other. The song is called “Dear Billie Jean”. The song is about a couple who write letters back and forth. The couple who are in the military but are fighting on different sides of the world. “I honestly cried a couple times while recording this song,” Michael said, “It’s just so

moving and really set the mood for the rest of the album.” If you are in a bad mood and want to listen to a song to put you down even more this is definitely the song to listen too. Song number two. “Hound Dog Thug” is one of the most creative songs on the block. This song will no doubt be on repeat when you’re working out. It has the best beat and the meaning behind it will surprise you. “It’s re-ally just about my cat, we wanted to do something that everyone would get fired up about ya know? We tried making it so you couldn’t tell it was about my cat but it is,” Tupac said. You can’t understand the lyrics but you can tell that they all put a little thought into it and wanted a big hit that had a personal meaning that only they would know about. The next song is called “Don’t be Cruel Bad Mama”, this song was inspired by Elvis’s mother because she tended to get in a lot of trouble. “ My mom has always been a trouble maker, that’s why I’m here. So I asked the guys and they agreed on this choosing this song for the album because we needed a relat-able song.” When asked about how she felt about this song his mother

simply said, “ You thought he was dead before just wait until after the release.” I’m not supposed to do this but…a fourth song which is what the album is named after, explains the story of what really happened to each of them. They’ve all been secretly hiding in Canada but the

Canadians are too nice to call them out so they have just been left alone. It also talks about the future attack on the U.S that they have been planning ever since the first time someone hurt their feelings. Overall it’s a great song to match and even better album and will definitely win a grammy for every category.

A student hidden behind an Instagram called “CHS_MEMES” is ridiculing the staff and school policies. Most of the time the stu-dent ridicules groups of peo-ple, but other times they call out teachers and staff individu-ally. His biggest target is Mr. Bergland who patrols the halls to make sure students are get-ting along and behaving. But perhaps his most iconic and most important job is making sure students are wearing their school IDs. Many students have consis-tently forgetten to wear their IDs to school, so many have been stopped by Mr. Bergland and sent to the office for not

getting a temporary ID. Know-ing that this occurs on a daily basis, the student behind the meme account uses Bergland’s phrases and attitude to make funny posts that the viewers can relate to. The posts mock him and mimic what he says. Many of the posts have funny looking cartoon char-acters, animals, or people that look like him with text bubbles of the things he says. The posts also relate to the students who come up with creative ways to hide that they have forgot their IDs. Many students who forget their IDs will put an old activity card or wear an empty lanyard to try and hide from Mr. Bergland. The student behind the meme account is not the only

one putting out the posts. Many of the posts that they post are memes made by fel-low students that are following the account. If the student that runs the account thinks the

meme is funny enough he will either post it or put it on his story tagging the student that created the post and giving them credit. This has caused many students to participate

in mocking the teachers and staff because many students want their posts to be featured on the infamous Instagram account. The account also ridicules certain events and clubs that occur at Centennial High School. They make fun of clubs such as the Gay and Straight alliance, debate, chess, and more. But the most controversial are the memes of how the school treats the students. Many of the posts compare the school to a prison where the students have no rights to do anything. This has caught the attention of the faculty and the administration is trying to shut down the account.

Kevin Creels goes from Tik Tok to music

Low-fi beats and mel-low tunes are the perfect description of Kevin Creel, also known as Kevin Perry on the app Tik Tok. While he doesn’t have any lyr-ics in his songs, they are still able to get you in a good mood. The power of not having any lyrics, the electro beats and gentle bass puts you in the right mood. Without the lyrics, it does make it harder to connect with the song. But with his type of music, it makes it easy to feel the emotion that goes along with the sound. His music is some of the best long drives music or if you’re just driving to a friend’s house. It’s able to just make you calm and just ig-nore some of the annoying things around you. It also is a good type of music to clean to. It helps you just focus on what you’re doing and just be able to work in peace and not have to worry if you aren’t doing it well. It helps you feel at peace while just bopping

to soft beats. On his Tik Tok, he’s known for his funny videos. He lip syncs to the popular songs. Even though he was found more for his Tik Toks, his music needs to get noticed even more. All his beats are made by him and are all original. With the fact they’re original just makes it better. You won’t be hearing the same thing that’s always on repeat on the radio. You can’t get annoyed by listening to his music too because there’s nothing repetitive. Kevin Creel’s music is something that you can rely on when you’re get-ting tired of your average music that you’ve been lis-tening to since 8th grade. His music is a good break from all of the songs with sad, repetitive lyrics. Throughout all his songs, none of the same beats are in the song once they’re used. All his songs are able to calm you down when you’re working on something stressful or are able to put you in a better mood if you’ve had a bad day.

by Jenna CoverStaff Writer The movie Five Feet Apart is filled with

romantic-comedy and a friendship bond that will certainly keep the audience both laughing and crying. If you are into romance, comedy, or cheesy and inappropriate jokes, then this movie is the best choice. The movie Five Feet Apart is a “must see film” because, of how the actors and actress portray their roles. The two main characters in the movie are, Stella and Wil-liam. Haley Lu Richardson and Cole Sprouse, who played these bright and lively characters, made the movie more romantic and re-ally portrayed the emotion of love and friendship. Stella and Will share the same type of illness, cystic fibrosis. These two very tal-ented actors and actress, makes the audi-ence within feel the pain of the moment of either one of them. You can really see how well they feel for each other and how deeply in love Stella and Will are. Also including Stella’s best-hospital-friend Poe, who has the same type of illness that Stella and William both have. Actor Moisés Arias who plays Poe re-

ally emphasizes and portrays his character extremely well. The way Poe portrays his inappropriate jokes and gestures, really makes you see a happier or better side to this kind of deadly disease. Stella and William in any circumstance sad, angry, scared, they both always have a way to cheer each other up and make smile. Showing that even within the length apart they share, they can still be romantic

and happy through the state they are in. But the most im-portant part about this movie is how the Stella and Will main-tain their love with an object that is five feet apart. This conveys that even though they cannot touch, or they will catch a disease that can kill them, they break the rules to be together but not that close together. Nurse Barb played by Kimberly Hebert Gregory has lost some patients due the deadly disease

that you get when you have cystic fibrosis. But with Stella and Will she have to watch them, but she lets them continue their romance. I really do recommend this movie for everyone to see, even if you aren’t into romance, this movie is a very good movie just to cry to. And if you are just into laugh-ing, this movie is right for that purpose as well.

Dear Avy, It is that time of year again. Col-lege decisions are coming out and not all the tidily packaged slips of paper we receive in the mail are bearing good news. I personally have received multiple rejections from schools that were very high on my list already and its been super hard to handle. I just feel stuck. Stuck with all my past choices that may have hurt my application; stuck with the applications I turned in; and stuck with the decisions that have come. As I’m continually receiving these rejections, I know I’m supposed to stay positive but I’m feeling incred-ibly discouraged. At this point, I’m go-ing to end up at a college I really don’t want to attend. People always say that you’re going to end up where you’re supposed to be and to just make the most out of it- I just don’t feel like I’m capable of doing that right now. What can I do to decrease the stress and anxiety sur-rounding decisions and how can I cope with the disappointment of not ending up where I want to be? Sincerely, Down Daniel Dear Down Daniel, Two words: it sucks. Trying to force yourself to feel optimistic and posi-tive about everything is an unrealistic expectation. Even as we try rational-izing them out, feelings are inherently irrational so logic and reasoning can only go so far. So just know, what you’re feeling right now is completely normal and completely valid. But that doesn’t mean you just have to be stuck there. The angst you feel surrounding col-lege decisions is justified because we feel like we know where we want to go and where we belong. However, college admissions officers really do know what people belong in those spheres and they want to let in people who will be happy and thrive there (that’s literally their job!). There are probably so many things that are left unknown to you about certain colleges/universities that you may have hated if you went there, so maybe you should be grateful you got rejected since your accep-tances are reflecting where you will thrive and grow. Moreover, there is no rush! You have time to ponder on the schools you’re in and figure out which of those would be the best fit for you and move from there. You have every right to be sad, but you need to bounce back because you have so much potential that when applied, I’m sure will do great things. Sincerely, Avy

Everyone probably hates cleaning especially if you have one of those parents. As bad as this might sound… it must be done. Here are a few pointers to make the torture hurt less. If your parents are happy you’re happy so you could just crank it all out in the first couple of days. This way you can do whatever you want for the rest of your break and have less things to do before the school year comes to an end. With this option you wouldn’t have to work on finals AND clean the garage you could just focus on finals. Another way you can ease the pain would be calling over some friends and making them do it with you… this theory is dangerous though because usually if friends are over you won’t get much done. When people hear spring break they are always excited but worried, it’s perfectly normal for this. Nobody enjoys spring cleaning, well almost. Parents do. Which brings you to the second option have them do it…no I’m joking but you can sure bribe them. Get them their favorite candy, food, drink, etc. and get them distracted so you can possibly get out of the cleaning. This tactic works 60% of the time, all the time. Only few have ever pulled this off. It’ll either get you out of it until next spring or have you grounded. Another thing you could do is make a spring cleaning playlist and just jam out and get it done. Music actually helps and can make it feel like you’ve been only cleaning for say an hour when you’ve been actually cleaning for a couple hours. You could even get your whole family involved and have a huge family jam session. Final pointer. You get out of it what you put into it. Whatever you do depends on how your spring will go. If you get it done right away, you’ll just be chillin’into the summer. But if you’re like most people you might procrastinate which might have you be cleaning for well into summer. Whatever you choose, good luck and may spring be ever in your favor.

Spring: The Cleaning that Kills

Spring Break created to honor CHS studentby Brady Turner Staff Writer

Now that spring break is finally over students can finally stop worrying about the next break. Everybody within the school system can agree that spring break should be removed or shortened at the very least. The break is just an excuse for kids to have fun, whatever that is. Not to mention the teachers. Teachers need the week to grade papers not sitting around being unproductive. Everybody knows that teachers are the worst graders in history and most of them don’t even keep their grades updated that frequently. For this reason, what makes it acceptable for the major-ity of the teachers out there that never even look at an assignment during the long unnecessary break. Who could possibly need a break during the toughest stretch of the year with SAT’s right around the corner and all the ISATS sophomores are required to do. Plus, ISATS don’t even matter one bit and people shouldn’t even bother trying on them. Teachers know exactly what they’re doing regarding putting down all the schoolwork that hasn’t been graded for the past couple months.

Because teachers are so aware of their ungraded assignments it drives them to be just as lazy as the students they teach and work so hard to get it turned in on time. The obvious simple solution everybody would confidently get behind is to just get rid of the break altogether in order to avoid the epidemic of not getting any work done over the break. No kid wants to “enjoy” time off from the real work that ultimately sets up the future goals of today’s kids. Instead of having a spring break where all teenagers do is goof off and spend their time being stupid, they should be in the classroom studying for their SATS. SATS is what matters around this time of year espe-cially for students that want to get into an elite school. Taking a mental break for a week is very over-rated, it’s better to be worked hard so you can’t think anymore instead of having a relaxed time to be fully refreshed for the fourth and final quarter of the school year. Also, teenagers get plenty of sleep as it is they don’t need an entire week of laying around the house just sleeping and not doing anything academically produc-tive at all. Productivity is the cornerstone of education and its completely nonexistent during this time of the year.

Spring break is a time to do many different things, but why do we have spring break? It is a little-known fact that spring break is a celebra-tion of the birth of the man, the myth, the legend, Brady Turner! The year was 2002 Presi-dent Bush decided that spring break was meaningless, so he decided to give it the purpose it was lacking. The president had found out about the birth of Brady Turner on March 27th. He immediately knew this was the meaning that spring break needed. Bush administration advisors advised him not to do it. They said things like, “We can’t let other countries know we have Brady’s awesome-

ness!” Another advisor was worried that if they dedicated a whole week off school to the birth of this boy, other kids would feel inadequate. Presi-dent Bush wasn’t concerned about the feelings of these other children, he hoped that they would look up to Brady. Bush was concerned about

kept it classified. It remained classified until recently when President Trump declassified it. Trump said, “There is no bet-ter way to Make America Great Again, then showing America how great of people there are like Brady. He really reminds me of myself, let me tell you him and I are fantastic, believe me!” Trump also said he could care less what NATO and the UN think. This is the reason we have the wonderful much needed break. Now you know who to thank. Before this was de-classified many would have thought Brady was just an average teenage boy, but nothing could have been fur-ther from the truth. Next time you see Brady in the halls say thank you, it’s the least you can do.

the country’s enemies know-ing we had such an amaz-ing person, so he signed the national holiday executive order in secret. Bush like most politicians thought it was the thought that counts, but now it has all been declassified. Bush in a recent interview talked about how at the time

he was in the early stages of his presidency. He wanted to please the people. Bush said, “I knew that the best way to please the American citizens was to give them a reason to party over spring break, at the time it was pointless to have this break.” Bush couldn’t just declare it a week long national holiday to celebrate Turner’s birth. It would have looked very suspi-cious to NATO and the UN. Which would have led to in-vestigations and both organi-zations would have discovered that Brady well surpassed the allowed awesomeness mag-nitude. This would have led to sanctions on the United States that would have killed Bush’s high approval rating. Bush knowing that he needed to celebrate this birth did what he had to do, and

Sophomore Anna Henley holds title of the longest sophomore to exist at Centennial high school. Since the opening of the school in 1987, she has been continually signing up for sophomore classes. The school has yet to notice. “It’s an honor, really,” she said. “The fact that I am so forgettable that I have gone unnoticed at this school for thirty-two years is an accomplishment in my book.” Some students believe their sopho-more year tends to be uneventful and that being a junior or senior is a more exciting experience. Anna has embraced the beleif as well. “Sophomore year is the most mediocre year, and I’m the most mediocre person.” Despite having the same teachers year after year, Anna has not caught their atten-tion as a repeating student. She is so forget-table and bland that she fails to stand out. For instance, Anna has had Mr. Berry as her English teacher for the past thirteen years and he still has no idea who she is. “Anna who now?” Berry said. “Does she even go here?” Henley says that this response has been simi-lar amongst all of her teachers. Being a cheerleader, many assume that

After nine years living in a refugee camp senior Alex Mwibey is using his school and community to help other kids in Malawi. Partnering with Ms. Skinner he is raising money for children to have better living, schooling, and to get basic medi-cal care. Alex was born in Malawi and lived in a refugee camp for 9 years where he had a dream about a better life for him and his fellow refugees. “When I was five years old I had a vision of helping people/ kids who are strug-gling especially where I came from” said Alex “I’m a refugee, I’ve been in a refugee camp for about 9 years” Now that Alex is living a better life here in America he wants to help the kids who weren’t as fortunate as him. This year his vision was able to come to life as he and Ms. Skinner came together and made events happen. Centennial High School is helping Alex raise money to send to Malawi. “It was really hard, when I had this vi-sion I went to talk to Mr. Farris, he sent me to Ms. Skinner and she helped me start a leadership class. In that class we are coming up with ways to raise money to send to Africa,” said Alex. Alex has a heart for children in suffering because he knows how it feels to be in poverty and suffering. Alex wants to get the word around the school about these kids because he knows that up here we aren’t caring as much as we should about these kids. “School helps a lot, most of these kids here they don’t know how the people live. They don’t know how people struggle,” Alex said. As this fundraiser grows bigger Alex wants to help kids every-where around the world, not just kids in Africa. “I want to raise money to help kids in refugee camps. Not only refugee camps but all over the world. Kids are not only struggling in Africa, kids are strug-gling everywhere.” Alex plans to keeping this fundraiser up until he graduates then he plans on making this a non profit organization and spread out into Idaho.

Junior athlete Tanner Garman’s whole life revolves around baseball, and he wants to see just how far he can go. in the sport. Garman has been playing baseball ever since he was 5 years old and his life has been completely different ever since. It all started with his grandpa who ended up being the third pick in the 1967 draft class. Having been born into a “baseball family” as Tanner said it was an easy decision to choose baseball from the get-go. “Just playing baseball makes me Tanner.” With that being said Tanner hadn’t always loved the game from the very start. “I really started to love the game around the age of 12.” When he was younger Garman liked to play foot-ball and up until freshman year, he played basketball as well. During his freshman baseball season Garman got called up to play varsity. As Tanner said, “When I got called up is the moment, I knew I was going to focus solely on baseball.” He also said that this is when everything really started to click for him and that this is what he wanted to do as long as he pos-sibly could. Just like every other player who plays a sport it’s a grind that’s not guaranteed over night. But there are points in time where players undergo their most growth, this time came for Tanner during his fresh-

man year. “I felt the most growth freshman year because that’s when I really started to believe in myself and my abilities.” Garman has been playing on varsity ever since he was a freshman and having gone through trials and tribulations has been a struggle for the starting centerfielder. Last year Garman had arm problems that prevent-ed him from throwing nearly all summer and caused him to lose some

playing time. Although this was hard for Gar-man it was as he said, “A real test of my mental game and although it was extremely hard to get past there was a little positive to take out of it.” “Its good I really respect coach Champion and I feel like he’s done a good job of preparing us for each and every game.” Said Garman after being asked what he thinks of the program. When asked what his biggest weak-nesses were Garman, “I get in my own head and I need to get a lot better and that will then positively translate to my hitting.” In contrast building off the positives he said, “One of my biggest strengths is my attitude and confidence. When I’m out there I really believe I’m the best out there.”

going unseen would be difficult, however she explained that staying hidden has proven to be relatively easy due to the disinterested student body and constant avoidance of the cheer team. Though most students would assume that

they would notice having a middle-aged woman in their class, however not a single student has pointed it out thusfar. Alongside merely being forgettable, Anna has found other methods to stay hidden. “Everyone just keeps mistaking me for my ‘younger sister’. I’m an only child,” Henley said. Henley explained that her parents simply as-sumed she graduated high school and are unaware that she still attends school at Centennial. Despite being forty-eight years old, she still lives with her parents who treat her like a roommate.

“I leave every day at 5:30 AM for cheer practice and get home around 3:00. They haven’t questioned me yet,” she said. When asked if she was worried about her long-time secret being exposed in the newspaper, Henley replied “Our school has a newspaper?” She plans on continuing living out her sophomore dreams at Centennial, encouraged by the fact that at least one other group goes more unnoticed than her.

Sophomore time traveler Gavin Viano is visiting past events to set things straight. Partnered with NASA, he is the first person in the world who has discovered a way to time travel. When he is using his machine, he has the power to change almost anything in history. He could go back and stop Hitler or even find out how the dinosaurs died. This is not the case however. Gavin is more focused on changing little things from his own past that affect almost nothing except him. Chang-ing things like making sure the shower wasn’t as cold this morning or going back a week ago when he didn’t put enough peanut butter on his

sandwich. “Yeah so what? If It’s not important to me in some trivial way, it’s not im-portant. It my time machine I

can do what I want, and you can’t tell me different.” When asked why he chooses to spend time chang-

lost to Timberline, to prevent that from happening I went back in time,” Gavin said. Video games are also another thing Gavin feels he needs to go back in time to change. Whenever he dies in a game and is super close to winning, he will go back in time and repeat it over again until he is satisfied with the results. “I have a large amount of power in my hand and in-tend to use it as much as I can to make me happy whether its winning video games or doing sports.” Gavin is now spending his time traveling back and forth from past and present to make sure everything is perfect. At press time, Gavin had not time traveled to fix his many errors in this story.

ing pointless events Gavin said, “Ever since I was a kid I had an intense amount of OCD. Growing up I was always look-ing for ways that I could change that.” Gavin also plays Base-ball and Basketball for Centennial. He has uses his time travel abilities to go back and let his past self-know what the pitches are for his upcom-ing at-bat to perform at a higher level. He even waits until the game is over to tell him what they are having for dinner that night and whether he will enjoy it and keep his appetite. Or head over to McDonald’s

Despite all 6ix9ine’s controversy, he continues to create amazing music and has become the new and improved rap god. 6ix9ine’s music is something that many people have a hard time describ-ing. His music is unlike all the other rap-pers that are surrounding us. His songs are filled with so many insightful lyrics and he’s able to express so many deep emotions that some people may have trouble describing in their own words. In his song “Billy”, he touches on how The Blood, a rival gang, should fear him and his gang. These lyrics are so deep and meaningful that will bring tears to anyone’s eyes. For instance, in his song “Billy” it brilliantly says, “Whole squad full of f---ing killers, I’m a killer too.” These lines are able to speak all of the words you aren’t able to. They hit so deep that they can make you cry. These songs are the ones you listen to when all you want to do is sit in your room and cry just to get those emotions out. Going with his amazing lyrics, him as an actual person is equally as wonder-ful. He’s able to top Eminem in so many ways. Eminem had his day in the light ofbeing the top rap god for way too

long. While Eminem has raised money for the Education and Youth, Human and Health services and to the Detroit community, 6ix9ine is helping the judi-cial system while in jail for shooting and killing a public man. He’s helping take down dangerous gang members and helping to stop drug trafficking. There are also viral videos of Tekashi going to families of the Dominican Republic streets and helping his own mom by giving them cash in large bundles. He gave the families over $10,000 and giving his mom one million to help her for all the times she helped him for his music career. 6ix9ine has been able to work through all the hate that he’s received, and he’s been able to still have success-ful media publicity while in jail. He’s been helping the court catch other dangerous gangs and gang leaders. While he’s facing life in prison for being a pedophile and a lot of dangerous criminal activity, he’s still a wonderful person. He’s able to connect to his fans and be able to prove that just because you are sentenced to life in prison, doesn’t mean you’re that bad of a per-son or an artist. April fools’!

For the students to maintain a good relationship with teach-ers and to earn better grades, students need to maintain and improve communication with teachers. Many students usually make up excuses to why they have a bad grade for something that they haven’t even turned in yet. And these students blame their mistakes on the teach-ers instead of talking with the teacher beforehand. Students also, may think that if they go on a trip for a long enough time, that the assign-ments, tests, and homework for them will be exempted. But to their surprise the students are confused to see a F in the grade book for their missed assignments. But this isn’t an example of the teacher’s fault, it’s an example of how the student didn’t talk to the teacher about missing the days that they did work on. If only the student talked to the teachers about the missing work, the teacher would have maybe talked to the student about what they would be doing on those days. And once the student came back, the student would be caught up with the classes he has. But this student, should have had the responsibility of going to their teachers first to get their work, homework and

take some tests before the student left. Yes, I understand that you have those one kids, that will be scared to even raise their hand in class and the thought of them raising their hand will be the death of them. You can always email your teacher with any question you have on anything. The only thing that teach-ers are known for and what they can do is teach, grade, and assist the students. Not to check if ‘Billie’ is here and keep some papers left for her and not put anything in for the grade. Then once she comes back, on her time, she comes in and receives her homework, school work and test that she missed. Then with Billie, the teacher goes over what they did on that exact day. No, the teacher is there to help you succeed but, they don’t baby you and once you’re back to school, they give you your necessary work that you missed. You must have responsibil-ity and the communication skills to receive your work and ask question if you must. Teachers are here to help us in any way they can, so cher-ish them because, if you help them, they will help YOU succeed.

Many people today are losing their creativity and be-coming more irresponsible due to the over use of phones and social media. People are being surrounded by people who may have more talent than them of they find the easy ways out of any of their issues. Always being surrounded by technology and different products that can solve any issue, it makes us as a society lazier and with the use of social media always portraying how you must look and be perfect or have amazing skills, it makes us feel less than and that we aren’t creative enough or aren’t worthy to show what skills we do have. Having this surrounding us on a constant 24/7 clock that never quiets, damages how we perceive ourselves and how we view the world. With people always posting their art, athleticism, sing-ing, etc. can harm how we see ourselves and how creative we are able to be. If we see someone who has a better art style than us or who can work more makes us feel like we wont ever be able to reach that level and it shuts us down to the point of not caring, not trying, not confident, etc. It will force us to make negative comments about how we are or who we are. With the shutdown, it makes us not want to try which makes us not to be able to reach our goals or not try enough to see enough improvement with what we’ll be happy with. With no need to feel that we need to try to achieve our goals leads us to being lazier and not be motivated to do anything since everything is at our fingertips. We’re able to find videos or little life hacks that are making our lives easier or faster just so we’re able to find or ways out of anything at any time. We’ve made ways to make things faster because we don’t have the patience to wait. We are either always having to move and be occupied or we are sitting doing nothing of importance. We feel no need to improve on many things or go out of our comfort zones because we’re either scared or too lazy to try and achieve our goals. With being surrounded constantly by technology we seem to forget how we need to be able to make life easier yet not taking short cuts. While it may solve some of our issues now, it can enhance the situation further later because we didn’t deal with it completely in the moment. So, take a minute to take a break from the internet and use your life to the fullest and be cre-ative in your own ways. April Fools’!

After thirty-two long years, the patriot mascot’s time is up. There’s a new mascot in town, and change is on the horizon. While others may argue that it would take too much effort and funding to change every patriot head in our school to a hotdog, the Patriot Ledger firmly believes that this small change would strike inspiration in the students and staff all throughout the school. We’re talking about a revolution. To walk into school and see a smiling, delicious treat has the ability to empower the people of Centennial to do amazing things. A longside the impact our mascot has on individuals, it is important to evaluate the meaning of both mascots. Hotdogs are as American as it gets, and arguably the best way to show patriotism is through Amer-ica’s favorite halftime snack. The patriot head, however, is nothing but a sad looking face with one eye. Another way the hotdog represents America’s values is through diversity. Each patriot head in Centennial looks exactly like the others. Hotdogs, however have the po-tential to represent a multitude of different students. From different shapes, sizes, color variations, and even buns, every person in school can be both represented yet simulta-neously unified by one mascot. Along with being diverse, the hot dog is also unique. When is the last time you saw a hot dog as a high school mascot? Changing our mascot would not only

set Centennial apart from the other schools and help encourage creativity. The few people fighting against the hot dog revolution may argue the negative impacts they have had on individuals is a good reason to shut down the hot dog mascot petition. However, there are only a few instances of hot dogs ever hurting anyone, and in every scenario the hu-man is always at fault. Is it really fair to blame the hot dog when it was the hu-man who choked in the first place? And if death is the only factor that goes into the choosing of our mascot, shouldn’t the patriot’s severe violence during the Revolutionary War be considered? Even if someone were childish enough to believe our mascot is based on the NFL team, the unfit nature of the patriot still makes it a poor choice. One of the most recognizable instances pertaining to the New England Patriots was in the 2015 Championship Game when they deflated the ball. This marked them as liars and cheaters. Who would want our school to be represented by that? While others may advocate for the patriot, it is clear to see that the hotdog is far superior. April Fools’!

Enough with animals being called “pets” they need to be the ultimate attraction to all of man-kind; they must be wor-shipped! Us, the human, have been the source of all the world’s problems. Humans have caused destruction to this beau-tiful world. Humans have caused our air to be polluted and our streets to run red in the night. What if we need a new kind of leader to prevent these problems, maybe a purr-fect problem-solver? Yes, I’m saying let’s refer to our animal friends to help us solve the problems we have in the world. But just not nay animal, a type of animal like: The Large White Pig. This pig will lead us to help us raise money for our country. The

large white pig will help us with our water-usage; not taking showers but taking mud baths to pre-vent us from using a lot of water. For food, no need to go out to any restaurant or going to the grocery store to for our dinners, lunches, and breakfast. We will rely on the dumpsters or garbage to help us through our food problems. But the one rule that the Golden Pig will have is, to worship all animals and of course, not to eat bacon. But the animals you have at your house, you need to tend to their every need and want. These animals are the only things that will not cause wars, shootings, and robberies. Animals are the only ones the hu-man can turn too. With-out animals, the humans as we know it, would be in a way worse condition

then it is in right now. But, there is one animal that can’t be the ruler of all of human-kind. And that animal is, the Golden Hamsters. These vicious monsters will rip us to shreds and will leave nothing behind. These animals will first look at you with their beady eyes then put you in a trance, then they will tell you to lay down on your back and then their whole colony will come up and feast. The Hamster colonies are only rarely seen at 3:00 on Saturdays on the first day of Janu-ary. And fair warning if you survive the attack of the Golden Hamster colonies, these animals will hunt you down and watch you when you sleep and will haunt your brain so badly that you will go insane.

I once heard a quote from a man named David Gog-gins. Goggins is a former Navy SEAL and now is a motivational speaker, author and ultramarathon runner. He said, “It’s so easy to be great nowadays because everyone else is weak.” Goggins is right, look around. Most people are weak. They don’t have mental toughness. They make excuses they blame all their problems on something or someone else, and they always are the victim. Now look at successful people, they take ownership for everything that happens to them, they have discipline, a strong mindset, and they never quit. Most people pretend to be victims, they blame their lack of success or lack of happiness on other people, or a situation that they had to go through. Most people

use their circumstances as a crutch in their lives. Now on the opposite side of the spectrum successful people. When something goes terribly wrong, they don’t blame someone else, they take ownership and then they say good. I read a book called Discipline Equals Freedom this book was written by a former Navy SEAL commander of the most decorated task unit in Iraq. His name is Jocko Willink. In this book Jocko talks about a mindset that he had as a SEAL and still has. When anything bad happens, when something goes terribly wrong, he says good. “Oh, mission got can-celed? Good. We can focus on another one... Didn’t get promoted? Good. More time to get better.” This mindset keeps you going through the hard things in life. It helps you realize that these bad things are going to help

you. This mindset will build mental toughness and disci-pline which leads to success. If you are someone that lands into the “weak” category, that’s okay. It’s not okay to stay there, but it is okay because you can get out of it and become a strong successful individual. It isn’t an easy path. In fact, it would be easier to take the metaphorical 6 lane high-way or stay weak or medio-cre. Or you can pick up the shovel and dig your own trail, the trail leads to suc-cess. It demands you have a strong mindset and mental toughness. The first step to getting on this path is just that. Step! Step onto this path, go, get after it. If you choose to make your path to greatness, you will need to take extreme ownership of everything that happens to you, stop being the victim, say good when bad things happen and never quit!

While snacks and soda are a great income for the school, gum would be more practical for the every-day student. Food always helps if you forgot to have breakfast or if you don’t have money for a lunch, but many students can go a while without food and a majority of students will never go a day without gum. Skipping eating is one thing but having to rush out your house and forget-ting to brush your teeth and having bad breath for the rest of the day. No one wants that for themselves or for anyone else. Gum is an essential for every teens life just like air is an es-sential. With the putting of gum in our schools vending machines would help bring in money for the school and bring in happier teens with fresher breath. Gum helps a lot of students throughout the day and it helps students with their concentration in class. If you had a sand-wich with something that can make your breath stink or you had Dutch Bros coffee in the morning and your breath smells like coffee or tea, you don’t want your breath smelling bad all day or be insecure that you can’t breath on anyone or anything, and you don’t have any gum

in your locker, car, bag or anything, you could rely on the vending machines. It could sell singular sticks for just $.50 or sell a normal pack for a dollar or even one of the bigger packs for two dollars. Stu-dents always have random change in their pockets or bags and would be willing to give up just a few bucks for some fresh breath! While the food and drinks may sell slower, gum would go faster and would help the school bring in more money. While it would just be a few cents at a time, more kids would put more money in in one day be-cause gum is always use-ful. It makes it easier to be able to get just a slightly higher amount of money just because we’d be more willing to give two dollars for a big pack of gum instead of just a little snack that won’t fill them up or do much of a benefit. We’d give more money for fresh breath instead of just a small snack. While it might be a slower source of income for the school and vend-ing machine companies, it’s more beneficial to the everyday student and teacher. The introduc-tion of more gum to the schools will help just the average person everyday.

What’s the point of Net-flix movie categories when every movie fits every category? I didn’t know Orange Is the New Black is a comedy, drama, AND a critically-acclaimed docu-mentary starring a strong female lead. I mean, it’s as if Netflix wants you to think they have a wide selection of movies when in fact they don’t. Speaking of zombies, cell phones are eating our brains and I blame President Trump. Just put the phone down for two seconds and you might see the world for the first time and again.

With Easter right around the corner, it’s important that everyone appreciate the marshmallow goodness of Peeps. What makes people think they can go to Walmart and engage in a profanity-laced argument with their entire family? Do they think no one else is in the store? This doesn’t happen at Fred Meyer, Winco, or Albertsons. Just Walmart. Is there some-thing in the air? Secondly, who for the love of all that’s good in the world is Jojo Siwa? Who is PewDiePie? Are they Star Wars characters? It just seems to me that anyone can be famous these days, what with the

Interweb, InstaTwit, and FaceTube. And why do people say’good morning’ as a greeting? Are they sug-gesting that mornings are inherently good? Why are they forcing their positive views of morn-ing on everyone? When someone greets me with a hearty “Good morning!” I just say, “Let’s agree to disagree. The only good mornings are the ones I sleep in on.” It’s time for a change. Let’s drive backwards and wear our socks over our shoes. The time has come to recognize pizza as a breakfast food. It’s cold and the wolves are after me.

Theater has the ability to shape the ways a culture thinks, functions, and grows; therefore, it is important that we as students support and appreciate the art form at Centennial. History has proven time and time again that promot-ing theater from a young age encourages creativity, self-expression, and confidence. However, one of the most character-building aspects is performing in front of an audience. Creating some-thing that you’re proud of is a beautiful thing and being able to share your work enhances the experience. It is our job as students to sup-port the artists around us and promote their creations. Take musical theatre for instance. The time-honored musical Les Miserables has been widely produced over the past thirty-four years. The reason behind its extended run time is its time less themes and morals. The impact it has on audiences has not fluctuated since 1985. This quality has been found among many different forms of theater, including theater in high school. Centennial’s spring play, Agatha Christie’s The Hol-low resided well with Its au-

dience despite being written in the 1920’s. This simply goes to show the lasting impacts theater has. Alongside older play writes, there is a multi-tude of new and exciting concepts being explored through theater every day. One example of this is The Prom: a new Broadway musical that deals with modern day discrimination and learning the importance of acceptance. The play follows a girl banned from her senior prom for try-ing to bring her girlfriend. Seeing as homophobia still plagues a large portion of modern-day society, The Prom has proven to be a controversial yet cultivating piece of art. When people push themselves and others out of their comfort zones, society’s views expand. Seeing theater can also help the reinforcement and revision of beliefs. Ques-tioning prior assumptions about the world enforces open-mindedness among individuals, and the curios-ity it can ignite in a person is one of the greatest driv-ing forces for change in our society. Seeing, supporting, and producing theater builds character, opens minds, and leaves a timeless impact on individuals.

Centennial High School’s girls softball team is looking forward to a their best season yet as they have new coaches and new equipment to support an old team that has grown together in skill and in friendship. The Centennial girl’s softball team has not always been characterized as the most successful sports team at Centen-nial. Nonetheless, the pride and joy of the team is the strong team bonds that have been formed throughout the years they have been able to grow together. “Softball has been where

I have found most of my friends and my friend group. I like to refer to it as the softball world because being involved with that is like being involved in a really big family and that’s really cool,” said junior Sophia Diffin. Yet, the bonds don’t just extend throughout the individual school teams. Because of club softball which a lot of the girls have participated in since they were younger, they have been able to extend comradery throughout the district. Now as a the team is older this year, the bonds they have cultivated throughout time are even stronger “The whole group of people you meet

The golf team hasn’t been to the state championship in over four years, but this year they have their sights aimed at making it there. The golf season is only a few weeks in, but the Patriot golfers feel like this could be the year. Senior Trent Brown has been on the golf team for four years, he says, “We need to rebuild our relationships as a team so we can work together to compete well

perform at their best. Some of the Centennial golf-ers have been working to make it to the state championship for the last four years. This is the last chance for many of the golfers. They feel this is the best chance they have. Senior Logan Connelly said, “I know that every single guy on the team wants to make it to state, this is the best chance of doing it that we have had in a few years.” The season is still young, and the team is getting more and more excited to see what they can do.

Our team is grown, experienced, and knows how to play the game.” The team believes that individually they have more talent than recent years and more comradery. “Our strengths are that we are a very talented individually and when we come together we all play at the same unmatched level,” said senior Cal Champion. They just need to work on staying positive through any tough time that they might face. “One of our big weak-nesses is getting inside of our own heads and letting it bring down the attitudes of not only themselves, but the other play-ers on the team,” Champion said The team is returning to fundamentals to improve their game. They are making sure that they have taken care of all the little things, such as running the bases correctly to minimize time getting around the bases or mak-

ing sure they know how to cover bunt defense correctly. “Fundamentals may not be the most fun things to practice but we all need to make sure we take care of the little things to open up doors for bigger things,” said short stop Connor Cook. To prepare for bigger competition such as Mtn. View or Rocky teams the Pats are not focusing on past mistake. These teams have always have feared names in the treasure valley and it can

be used as an intimidation factor which can seriously affect the outcome of the players performance. The first step for this team is to pull it together mentally and know that no team is unbeatable, and anything can happen. “We need to just mentally prepare for tougher teams like Rocky because we all know we can do dam-age we just need to stay humble and be ready to attack.”

win on their practice and close team relationship. Cleverly said, “We are practicing everyday with each other, putting, chipping, and playing.” Brown along with numerous other golfers are hop-ing that if the can put the work in the team will be able to put one of the best seasons Centennial has had in quite a few years. Senior Royal Madison who has been playing golf since he was a freshman said, “We are always trying to build each other up and help push each other to be bet-ter.” Brown also talked about how the team will watch the other golfers swings to help fix any technique problems so they can

and qualify for state.” The golf team feels it is very important to have close relation-ships with each other. They are doing well at this. Junior Hunter Mease who is playing his second year on the golf team said, “My favorite part about being on the golf team is the people.” Junior Garret Cleverly said something very similar, “My favorite part is hanging out with the guys and playing golf.” So far this seems to be work-ing. The boys golf team recently played Skyview High School and was able to put up some very low scores and crush Skyview. The golf team is putting this

through the softball world extends even further in high school because, like, you get to play against each other which just makes it even more fun because we are still really good friends. Like, I’ve been playing with my best friends against some of my best friends for three years now and I think that has just made us all stronger players,” said junior Harper Piatt. The junior class this year makes up the majority of the spots on the varsity team because they have had such a large number of girls keep up with the sport. This makes the team feel very prepared for the season to come. Moreover, new equipment and new

coaches are fostering that energy to set the team up for a successful season. “Oh, I love our coaches. McFarland, Bailey Galegos, and our new coach Ms. Gillet are awesome. I love them. You can just tell that they care so much about us girls and are really good at helping us with the fundamentals and the mental game of the sport,” said Diffin. “We just got a bunch of new stuff on the field. We just got a new fence, new banners, a new barbeque, new speakers, and they redid our entire parking lot. wThis just en-sures we have a fresh start to a new seasons that will hopefully motivate us to do our best, I’m so excited.”
