Thanksgiving Reflection By Jillian S.

It is that time of year again, the holidays! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, with all the delicious food such as the stuffing and the turkey. Thanksgiving is a VERY important holiday. Now, even though people think that it is Christmas already, with their Christmas trees and lights, we can’t forget about the true meaning of Thanksgiving, giving thanks! Thanksgiving is that one day a year where we can tell what we are thankful for and spend quality and fun times with our family and friends. This year it was exciting that my dad’s birthday was on Thanksgiving! I am truly thankful for my family, friends, and teachers who made me the girl I am today. I want everybody reading this to be thankful and celebrate life, success, and your blessings. Welcome back!

Face Your Fear! By Gianna C.

Did you have a fun Halloween this year, Panthers? In honor of the spookiness of the season, here is a list of all sorts of fears and phobias, and how you can overcome them.

Arachnophobia- Most of us experience this one to at least a slight degree. It’s the fear of spiders! To get over this one, just remember you are much bigger than any spider and he is ultimately much more afraid of you than you are of him. Also, most spiders aren’t even poisonous, such as hairless spiders, funnel weaver spiders, and jumping spiders; they just get a bad rep because of poisonous spiders like tarantulas and mouse spiders. Wolf spiders are especially feared. You would think a spider as nasty-looking as that could do some serious damage but they’re actually harmless! They don’t even spin webs for you to accidentally walk into!

Glossophobia- As a middle school student, glossophobia, or the fear of public speaking, can seem incredibly difficult to overcome. It is estimated that about 75% of people experience anxiety while speaking in public. If you are afraid of speaking in public, don’t imagine everyone in their underpants. Just breathe. If you need to pause between sentences and take a deep breath, do that. Remember, if you mess up, nobody knows it but you. Also remember that nobody is laughing at you behind your back.

Monophobia- The fear of being alone. This one is fairly difficult to overcome, but if you fear being

alone, even while eating or sleeping, talk to yourself. Make up an imaginary friend. It may sound childish but if you create the illusion of a companion for yourself, it may help you with monophobia. Just remember to not use your pretend pal as a crutch; reality is a very nice place, too.

Apiphobia- This phobia is similar to arachnophobia, except this time it’s with bees. If you have apiphobia, or a fear of bees, use the spider trick again! You are much bigger than the bee! And if it’s the stings you’re afraid of, just leave the little guy alone. The sting is only a self defense mechanism used when the bee feels threatened or scared. So if you don’t swat at him when he’s twenty feet away or scramble away shrieking, he won’t sting you, promise.

Phasmophobia- Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! This phobia, the fear of ghosts, is especially appropriate for the Halloween season! If you’re afraid of ghosts, just avoid them. Don’t read ghosts stories or creepypastas online, and don’t invite Bloody Mary over for a spot of tea. Doing these things could aggravate your phobia and make you anxious and stressed. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Coasterphobia- If you have coasterphobia, you’re not alone. Folks have been fearing rollercoasters since the seventeenth century when they were first invented in Russia. If you haven’t guessed it by now, coasterphobia is the fear of rollercoasters! Coasterphobia is a melting pot of all sorts of different phobias, such as acrophobia, the fear of heights, claustrophobia, fear of small, cramped spaces, and emetophobia, the fear of vomiting, to name a few. Same thing as with phasmophobia; if you don’t like rollercoasters, avoid them. Don’t let anyone pressure you into riding one if you don’t want to.

Didaskaleinophobia- This one is a mouthful, and it is the fear of school. We all get it. No one likes going to school, right? But fearing it is an entirely different thing. If you are afraid to come to school in the morning, just know that zero harm will befall you in these classrooms. You are here to learn and have fun, not be tortured! Enjoy school, and be grateful you’re getting a proper education; you will do wonderful things with it.

That’s it, Panthers!. MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

♥ Farmer’s Market Fun ♥

By Evelyn and Ella

At the Murrysville Fire Department farmer's market, you can find everything from farm

stands to food trucks. We found lots of different interesting things that all the people sell after

season! They were selling everything from hot sauce to all-natural beeswax products.

One of these stations was called

Hank’s Kettle Corn. We loved his fall

special was pumpkin spice kettle corn.

We also tried other flavors like: regular,

cheddar and caramel.

Another station was taking used wood and

re-purposing it to make adorable toys and cool-looking signs. It was called Re-wood works and

is owned by Bonnie and John Belak, but her talented husband is the one who does all the

carving❣

Another fun station was Earth

Wheel and Fire. They make all different

kinds of wood-fired pizza. We loved

their margherita and cheese pizzas. They

have small medium and large! A perfect

after school snack!

Even though it is currently not

open, you can still enjoy the farmer's

market in the summer from June to

September, but this year we had an over

season into October! (it is a really nice

place to meet with friends after school

like we did).

Six Great Books to Look for!

By Ellen L. Source: Brightly Books 2017

It’s 1959 and 13-year-old Cammie,, lives with her prison-warden father at the

Hancock County Prison. She’s angry at life, because of her mother’s death when

she was a baby. A series of events and unusual people help Cammie find out

who she really is.

When Lily’s grandfather dies, she goes to the circus where he worked. There, she

realizes that Grandpa’s elephant, is mourning her grandfather too. Their grief

helps Lily and bonds them together. When the circus want to send the elephant

away, Lily and her friend Henry are determined to save her.

In this science-fiction adventure, it’s the year 2213. Earth no longer exists and

humans have been living on Mars. Until now. Most humans have already left

Mars, but Liam and his friend Phoebe are still there. And they’ve discovered some

shocking info about time, space, and other lifeforms.

Sent to the countryside for the summer with her brother, Tess discovers a secret

castle where a boy named William lives. It’s a strange castle — dreams come

to life, a wish equals a carnival ride, and the sinister hawthorn trees loom

threateningly. But it isn’t just strange, it’s dangerous too.

Adventure, magic, and history intertwine in this story set during World War II.

Four 13-year-olds are tasked with locating the missing pages of an ancient

book because the pages hold the key to preventing attacks like Pearl Harbor.

It’s up to these kids to find the pages that are hidden in the Metropolitan

Museum of Art.

From the author of Counting by 7s, and based on her childhood, comes the

story of a girl who, as the title says, is physically short. Over a summer, she’s

cast as a Munchkin in “The Wizard of Oz” production where she befriends wise,

diverse adults and learns that her size doesn’t define her.

What They Need to Do, to Get to 52

By Nathan K. The Pittsburgh Steelers are very good right now, maybe better than they’ve been in about 40 years. But they have a couple problems, and here is how they fix those problems to get to Super Bowl 52.

1. Get drama on their side. The Steelers have had a lot of drama this year, from Antonio Brown throwing coolers, to Martavis Bryant complaining about being on the team, to Big Ben and Mike Tomlin trying to protect both of their images. What they need to do is get that out and focus on FOOTBALL, not what looks like a reality show.

2. Figure out a way to beat the Patriots.

“The Patriots are the Steelers’ Kryptonite” - Bill Hilgrove

I agree fully with this quote. The Patriots are the only team in the league we can’t beat with ease. I think we can all agree we would love to see T.J Watt sack Tom Brady. Mike Tomlin and Keith Butler, get him up the middle before Brady gets the ball off to someone from his Brady Bunch and hit him!

3. Improve the defense.

Joe Haden only had his first pick by Week 7. I know he was fighting a leg injury, but he is a Pro Bowl corner and he should be getting out there more. If we can get him on a roll, that will automatically improve our secondary and the entire defense overall.

4. Leave the AFC North in the dust.

The Ravens, Bengals, and Browns don’t seem like too much of a tough bunch, and as of Week 7, Joe Flaccowas only averaging 107 pass yards per game, but the Ravens have been in dogfights with them in the past couple of years. I’m not saying fear the Ravens, but I’m saying the Steelers shouldn’t take that team lightly.

You feel the crisp air tickling your cheek, You have cozy socks covering your feet.

All you could feel are the leaves crunching beneath your feet, Gone away for the season is the simmering heat.

The scent of apple spice is lingering in the air, It reminds me of the memories that me and my family share.

As I hear the sounds of the cold autumn breeze, I listen to the swaying of the bare fall trees.

In that sudden moment I could hear my mom calling from the door But I wanted to stay out, I wanted to explore.

I figured it was really time to go, But I very much enjoyed the autumn show

Winter Poem By Sohaib H.

Winter is the warmest season

Oh, you say you want a reason?

Is it warm when snow piles high and wide?

It is if you’re bundled up inside

When it’s storming when it’s raining

I stay indoors without complaining

Other people like to ski Or sled down a hill, but not me

While you’re bundled up in your jacket I’m tearing up a hot cocoa packet

I don’t mind summer, I’ll make that clear But winter’s my favorite time of the year!
