December Birthdays We will celebrate December birthdays on Saturday, December 14.
Christmas Party Raffle We are selling raffle tickets for $5 each. Winner will be announced at our Christmas party. Winner wins: $300 and 2 tickets to next year’s Christmas party! Please see Rena Wood to purchase tickets.
Name That Tune ShagAtlanta Christmas Party
The inaugural Name That Tune contest was a big hit last year, and this year should be even better. Please come out and participate in identifying the name of the great song, and/or the artist that sang it, and/or the year it was first released. Ace Asip (host) and Jim Agee (DJ) will once
again be selecting the songs and directing the contest.
1. Name That Tune starts promptly at 3:00 and goes until 4:30 in
the main ballroom. We have an hour and a half time
allocation this year, which allows for more songs and relaxed
fun.
2. In response to your feedback from last year, we now have an
organized, self-explanatory score card that will guide you
through the game. No more free-hand answers …just fill in the
blanks.
3. You can play by yourself if you wish, but we encourage you to
form teams with your friends. It is a lot of fun, especially when
you get our age, to have someone to share memories and
answers to the greatest era of music (50’s and 60’s) in the last
100 years.
4. Teams will be limited to eight people per team, with one score
card per team, and we ask that you occupy one table per team.
Be thinking now about who you want to team with.
5. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams:
(1) $ 75.00
(2) $ 50.00
(3) $ 25.00
The three winners will be announced, and prizes awarded
Saturday night.
6. Call Larry Studdard @ 678-361-4292 with any questions.

Shag Dancing Etiquette If you have something to add to the weekly update, please send to Bonny Hicks’ email: [email protected].
SHAG CONCEPTS 1. Shag is a waist-down shuffle. There is not a lot of upper body action. Feet are kept close to the floor, generally using the balls of the feet. Except for competition shagging, subtleties like this are what gives the dance its smoothness and its sensuality. 2. Shag is a slot dance. This means that partners dance up and back in a narrow space. 3. Shaggers “dance on a diving board”. This means that besides staying in the slot when we pass each other on the floor, we stay close together. (Otherwise, if we were actually dancing on a diving board, we would fall into the water.) 4. Shaggers dance “north and south”. This simply means that we usually do not change directions on the dance floor, unless a particular move, such as a pivot, takes us into a new direction. That then is our new “north and south.” 5. Shaggers “keep it tight”. This means that we dance fairly close to each other and do not usually get our arms fully extended. From toes to heels, the distance traveled is only about two feet. 6. Shaggers use a light touch. In shagging, the leads hands are held with a fairly light touch and little or no tension. Male leads are merely signals, and rarely provide any assist to the lady in making a turn. Leads are given on the 5,6. Shaggers do not keep time to the music with their lead hands nor do they push back and forth as in some other dances. 7. The lead hands rest on an “imaginary post” (except for turns). The free hands are held about waist high (as if holding an “imaginary beer”) 8. Shag steps are counted differently from bop and West Coast swing. Shag (and East Coast Swing): triple step up, triple step back, rock step or 1&2, 3&4, 5, 6. Bop and West Coast Swing: step, step up (back for males in swing), triple-step, triple-step or 1,2, 3&4, 5&6. 9. Leather-soled shoes are best for shagging. After all, shag is a shuffle. 10. High heels are not good for shagging. They make it difficult to shuffle.
