1 YEAR 5 ENTERPRISE DAY YEAR 6 BOUNCE TRIP LIBRARY EID MUBARAK On the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr Al Mubarak, we would like to express our best wishes and extend our greetings on this happy occasion. On Thursday 21st June, Year 5 will be hosting an Enterprise Day. They have worked hard this week in order to prepare for the day; planning, designing and creating products to sell or games for customers to play. Each team had to come up with a team name, which would also work for the name of their stall. Year 5 had to put their mathematical and entrepreneurial minds to the test, ensuring their spending didn’t go over 50AED and to cost their items correctly in order to make a profit on the day. Each year group will have the opportunity, during the day, to visit the stalls and buy a product of their choice, a cake from a cake stall or have a go at one of the games created. All money raised on the day will go to the Red Crescent. On Thursday next week our Year 6 children will be going on their trip to Bounce. Please can you remind children that they must have brought in the waiver form from Bounce, this is a standard form that many of you will have signed before if your child has gone to Bounce in the past. Also, for the children’s own comfort, we request that children come dressed for school on Thursday in their school PE kit. Please note that the library will be closed from the 24th of June until the end of the Term. The students will therefore be unable to borrow any library books during this time. Any outstanding library books will result in your child’s end of year report not being released. EID MUBARAK On the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr Al Mubarak, we would like to express our best wishes and extend our greetings on this happy occasion.

On Thursday 21st June, Year 5 will be hosting an Enterprise Day. They have worked hard this week in order to prepare for the day; planning, designing and creating products to sell or games for customers to play. Each team had to come up with a team name, which would also work for the name of their stall. Year 5 had to put their mathematical and entrepreneurial minds to the test, ensuring their spending didn’t go over 50AED and to cost their items correctly in order to make a profit on the day. Why is reading so important?

From research we know, that reading for pleasure makes a big difference to children’s educational performance. Evidence suggests that children who read for enjoyment every day not only perform better in reading tests than those who do not, but also develop a broader vocabulary, increased general knowledge and a better understanding of other cultures.

In fact, reading for pleasure is more likely to determine whether a child does well at school than their social or economic background!

This week, as we move towards the end of the year, we have reviewed our children’s ‘in year library book usage’ and I am excited to share with you our statistics.

Reading at The Pearl in numbers …

Over 48,000 books in the school

Over 17,000 books in the library

15,096 different library books borrowed this year

At The Pearl, we encourage children and staff who are leaving at the end of the school year to donate a Legacy Book. This does not need to be a new book but could be an old favourite. These books are added to our library with a bookplate to remind us of them.

If you would like to leave a Legacy Book, please bring it to Mrs Farooq or Mrs Chetri our librarians who will help you to fill in the bookplate.

On Wednesday 20th June we will be hosting two combined Parent Workshops entitled Positive Parenting and Summer Holiday Educational Ideas. In response to parent feedback, we are piloting an evening workshop. In addition, the session will be videoed and released to parents who are unable to attend .

Finally, I wish you all Eid Mubarak and remind you that we expect all children to be in school at 7.30am every day until the end of term, Thursday 5th July.

After recently being moved to Level 2, as per the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Program, Mia, Y2 Agate, competed at the Ramadan Internal Invitational in Abu Dhabi on Friday 8th June. This was her first competition at this level and her results were;

- Vault: 2nd Place- Beam: 2nd Place- Bar: 2nd Place- Level All – Round: 3rd Place.

Mia will be competing in Dubai at the end of this month. We look forward to hearing how she does. Well done Mia!

This week we have been thinking about Eid and how it is celebrated around the world. We made Eid cards for our families and finished our collection for the ‘Gift of Education’.

In Maths, we reviewed 2D and 3D shapes. The following link has a nice activity that can be completed on a laptop or desk top computer.

In Phonics we introduced the sounds ‘z’ and ‘x’ and reviewed all the sounds covered so far; linking sounds to letters and identifying the initial sounds in words.

This week, we have continued to learn about the heroes in our community such as fire fighters, the police, doctors, nurses and vets. In Literacy, we have been working hard to consolidate all of the sounds we have learned so far, using them to spell words and write simple sentences. In Mathematics, we have continued to work on number bonds; identifying pairs of numbers that make 5, 10 and 20.

In preparation for the children’s transition to Year One, we are encouraging the FS2 children to be as independent as possible. May we please ask that you allow your child to take their own belongings in to class each morning and put them away in their cubby by themselves. At home, you can help by giving your child more responsibility with their homework or some simple household chores, along with allowing them to dress and undress independently.

In English this week, the children have been learning about the suffixes s, er and est. They have been finding meaning to these words and writing sentences that include them.

In Mathematics the children have revisited number problems with a special focus on adding and subtracting time. They have used clocks to count forwards and backwards in hours and half hours, using this strategy to solve a range of word problems. In Topic we have continued looking at people we celebrate and the children have enjoyed using their research skills to find out facts about them. They have now started to use this information to create fact files of these key personalities.

NEXT WEEK

In English the children will have a chance to write about their wonderful time during Eid Al Fitr. They will focus on using correct punctuation in their sentences, as well as using connectives and openers to make their sentences interesting to read. Most importantly, they will practise re-reading their work to correct mistakes.

In Mathematics we will be revising multiplication and division. They will practise using these operations to solve word problems. We will use our usual

This week in English, our students have thoroughly enjoyed learning about alliteration in poetry. They have allowed their creativity to flow and have written their very own rhyming poems. In Topic, the children have been learning about The Great Fire of London and have sequenced a series of events from that period in time. The students are really enjoying this topic and are excited to learn more. In Maths we have continued to revise important and key topics from our curriculum. We have been very busy with assessments over the past few weeks. Well done to all our Year 2 children for working so hard throughout this time.

أجرينا عدة تقييامت عىل مدى األسابيع القليلة املاضية ويصادف هذا األسبوع نهاية

هذه التقييامت. أحسنتم طالبنا يف الصف الثاين لعملكم بجد طوال هذا الوقت.

YEAR TWO

Next week, we will be writing a diary in English. The diary will be written from the point of view of the little boy in the bakery where the fire broke out, back in 1666. The children will explore the five senses to allow them to empathise with the littles boy’s emotions at that time. In Maths, we will be learning about symmetry and directional language and positions. In Topic, we will be starting to design our Tudor Houses. We would like the children to bring in two boxes, of different sizes, to school. For example, a cereal box and a tissue box. The boxes do not need to be large. In Science, we will continue experimenting using Materials and testing what materials are most suitable for particular uses.

What a fantastic week we’ve had here in Year 3 – well done everyone for working so hard.

This week in Maths, we’ve started exploring coordinates. We have read coordinates and then plotted our own on a grid. We’ve then challenged the children’s knowledge further by applying these new skills to some reasoning problems and a Battleships board game.

In English, we’ve turned ourselves into advertisers and explored persuasive writing through posters. We’ve explored the key language needed to help persuade someone and had lots of fun exploring ‘Hyperboles’.

We’ve all been scientists this week and explored light and finding sources of light. We’ve then extended this investigation into finding man-made and natural sources of light.

Next week in Maths we will start looking at statistics and pictograms and bar charts.

In English we will continue our unit on persuasive posters and create a poster for a fictional product that the children will design.

In Science we will be continuing our light investigation.

كان أسبوعا رائعا يف الصف الثالث عمل فيه التالميذ بجد واجتهاد ففي مادة اللغة

اإلنجليزية كنا مكتشفني ومبدعني، حيث قمنا بتطبيق الكتابة املقنعة وتطويرها، وبحثنا يف املفاتيح اللغوية الالزم استخدامها عند إقناع

شخص بفكرة ما، ومن األمثلة عىل ذلك« استكشاف هايرببوليس«.

ويف مادة الرياضيات، قمنا باستكشاف اإلحداثيات. ولقد قراءة اإلحداثيات وثم تم

تطبيقها عىل الشبكة الخاصة بنا، ثم قمنا بتكليف تالميذ بتنفيذ العديد من األنشطة

التي فيها الكثري من التحدي واملتعة من خالل » ألعاب التفكري ولعبة البوارج من لوحة

األلعاب.

يف العلوم قمنا باستكشاف مصادر الضوء والحقائق الضوئية. ثم بحثنا يف مصادر صنعها

اإلنسان ومصادر الضوء الطبيعية.

This week is our last week on our Ramadan timetable and even shorter than usual. How quickly has this month flown by? Despite having a short week, we have managed to complete some fantastic learning.

The Year 4 team wish you all and your families a wonderful Eid Al Fitr break.

In English this week we have been completing our diary entries based as a passenger on the Titanic. We have also taken time to edit and improve our writing. We have also been writing questions to interview passenger on the Titanic.

In Maths we have been revising statistics and data. We have been drawing different types of graphs and answering questions based on our data.

Our Science learning has continued to be based on our Sound topic. This week we have been investigating sound proofing and looking at different materials that absorb sound.

In English we will be continuing to write and record responses to our interviews with survivors and witnesses from the Titanic. We will be recording these and sharing these with the other Year 4 classes.

SPaG focus for next week will be continuing to edit and improve our

writing using the correct punctuation and writing in the appropriate tense.

Our Maths learning will continue with revision of our topics over the year based on problem solving based on Geometry.

As we will be visiting the Louvre next week as part of our Topic, we will be completing activities based on our visit. These activities will be based on the magnificent architecture of the Louvre and art pieces that have links to the UAE.

REMINDERSNext week will also be a short week following the Eid break, as we will be back to normal school hours, please ensure your child brings their packed lunch, hat and water bottle to school each day.

On Tuesday 19th June, Amethyst and Citrine classes will be visiting the Louvre.

On Wednesday 20th June, Tourmaline and Jet classes will be visiting the Louvre.

Please ensure your child has returned their library books as soon as possible as we are closely approaching the end of term.

English – In English, this week we began our creative stage. To link closely to our topic work, the children began planning a letter to the Brazilian Government asking them to save the rainforest. The plans are nicely forming and all of the children are using the persuasive techniques we practiced last week.

Maths – In Maths, the children studied the value of the equals sign. They also solved simple algebraic equations and made their own equations for a friend to solve. They also reviewed rounding to the hundredth place, with a specific focus on place value.

Topic – This week in Topic, we have learnt about the different life cycles of amphibians. We learned what the word amphibian means and we studied the lives of frogs, newts and salamanders in detail. English: Next week the children will

write their persuasive letters to the Brazilian Government. They will then edit and improve, to check for all the necessary features and recite their letter for the class.

Maths: In Maths, the children will focus their attention on solving multi step word problems. They will use the RUCSAC method to help understand the mathematical language and will even write some of their own word problems.

Topic: Next week in Science, we will look at reproduction relating to flowering and non-flowering plants and the ingenious methods plants have for dispersing their seeds.

REMINDERSNow that we are into the Hot Weather Plan, all children must be collected from inside. Due to Year 5 finishing the day with a Specialist lesson, please pick your child up from these areas: if they have Music last lesson, please pick them up from the Music Room. If they have PE/Swimming or Library, the children must be picked up from the corridor outside the PE Hall. On a Tuesday, the children have Arabic so must be collected from their classrooms. Thank you for your cooperation.

We ask that, if you have any old or unused board games or activities at home that the children could benefit from using during these indoor play times, please can you donate these to Year 5 for them to be used during lunch times.

We have received many fantastic Homelink but would love to see more. Please encourage your child to work independently and complete all 5 Homelinks tasks. Homelinks can be shared on our padlet page for Term 3 or brought into class.

Year 6 have been working incredibly hard this week practicing for their upcoming production. The children all have their lines and scripts and are ready to roll into action for the next four weeks. Please support your child to learn their lines, it has been wonderful to see that more and more children are now knowing their lines off by heart. Keep it up!

Notes: Please can the children continue to learn their lines. As of next week they will not be able to read their lines off of their scripts while rehearsing, not doing this may lead to a child having their part given to another child.

Please can we have all costumes in school by Thursday 21st June (next week) in a plastic bag with your child’s name on it.

Children have been exploring the features of a democratic society and how the Ancient Greeks made decisions amongst themselves in a democratic way. Children have considered statements such as: The earth does not belong to us: we belong to the earth; technology has forever

changed the world we live in; saving the environment is the biggest problem we face in our world today. It has been great to hear the children’s well-reasoned points of view, backing their views up with real world examples.

On Thursday next week we will be going on our Year 6 trip to Bounce. Please can we remind children that they must have brought in the waiver form from Bounce, this is a standard form that many of you will have signed before if your child has gone to Bounce in the past. Also, for the children’s own comfort, we request that children come dressed for school on Thursday in their school PE kit.
