• What did you thinkwhen your teachers shared the report with you?

It’s amazing! I’m really im-pressed about our school. I was happy and excited the moment I heard about it.

I was excited and happy. I am pleased the inspectors noticed that we are great and well be-haved.

I love my class

Yes we are!

• What does outstand-ing mean to you?

We must not give up.

We must keep on trying.

We must continue to be really good.

It means our school is the best and we have to continue like this.

Outstanding is the highest. It means lots to me.

Now we need to be more out-standing.

That our school is safe and we have staff who keep us safe.

If you go to our school you will get a good education and guaranteed learning.

We are amazing at what we do. It means ADEK are super proud and we do good work.

We are better than anything. We are phenomenal and splen-diferous. Do you know that I have been learning about Roald Dahl today?

If you would like to comment on the report please do not hesitate to contact me in per-son or via email.

Over the next few weeks, through our newsletters, we will share with you the actions we are taking to address the recommendations as we strive to be beyond outstanding.

Plant a Tree Initiative

as a yogurt, Laban or olive pot.At playtime they can take the pot out to our planting station by the gazebo to fill it with soil and plant a seed of their choice - tomato, aubergine, mint, co-riander or parsley.

Once planted children may take their pots home to see if they can grow their plants.

Art for Australia

We are planning to have a sealed bids auction of artwork to raise money for The Red Crescent #mateshelpmates appeal for Australia.

Do you have any artwork that you would like to contribute to the appeal?

Artworks may be your own, commissions eg a photoshoot, or preloved work that you no longer wish to keep.

These artworks will then be displayed in the reception with a reserve price and parent, families, and the community will be allowed to bid to pur-chase them.

After the closing date, the highest bids will be accepted and paid to The Red Crescent appeal to support Australia. I wish you and your families a peaceful weekend,

Abigail

In assembly this week we tried to find a solution to one of our National Day problems, “How can we protect the air that we breathe?” by planting the first tree for our plant a tree initiative. This initiative aims to plant over 1,500 trees this year.

We were delighted to welcome visitors from the Ministry of Tolerance who, following the Year of Tolerance, are them-selves now working to promote tolerance around the world.

Following our assembly, chil-dren have been asked to bring in a clean, small, old pot such

PickyEatinginToddlers

During the toddler years, picky eating and mealtime battles are common. Learning how to overcome these power struggles will help your child build healthy eating habits to last a lifetime.

Keep a variety of nutritious foods at home. Your job is to serve healthy food and their job is to choose what they want to eat or if they want to eat at all. It is normal for toddlers to skip meals or to eat more or less from day to day. This allows children to learn when they are hungry and full.

Schedule three meals and two to three healthy snacks each day. A predictable routine prevents nibbling and helps toddlers know when they can expect to eat next. Avoid snacks or milk just before mealtime as this will decrease appetite and willingness to try new foods. Serve them the same meal as everyone else at the table but in smaller portions.

Avoid processed foods, fast foods and avoid sugary drinks, including juice. If your tod-dler refuses to eat, don’t force it and don’t make a different meal. Your child can eat at the next scheduled meal or snack time. Encourage your child to try a bite or two of a new food. Children are naturally slow to accept new tastes and textures, so don’t give up. It can take ten – fifteen tries for children to eat some food they first refused. Try offering it with healthy foods you know your child will eat and don’t promise dessert as a trade-off. This sends a message that treats are more valuable than nutritious foods.

Whenever possible, eat together as a family. Children are more likely to try new foods and make healthy choices when they see siblings and parents showing a good example. With time and patience, most children learn to be more flexible. If you are feeling frus-trated, speak to your child’s doctor or pediatrician for more ideas.

On Wednesday we had our first house assembly where all chil-dren in Years 1 to 6 met with their house parents and house members. Pupils enjoyed prac-tising their chants, learning about future house events and focussed on what it means to be part of a team.

We also had our first house event of Term 2 planned and led by the Dolphins. Pupils made their own paper aero-plane (using scrap paper) and earned house points based on the distance their aeroplane flew. Well done to all involved. We are looking forward to the next house event in two weeks’ time.

NEWS FRoM NURSERY P1 January 16th 2020

This week in Nursery we learned the rhyme ‘Jack and Jill’. The children enjoyed act-ing out the rhyme in the Foun-dation Stage garden and used a class ‘wishing well’ to make their wish. One version of the rhyme can be found at the fol-lowing link:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFj0K38sPmA

In Mathematics we continued to develop our counting skills and numeric awareness to 10 and beyond.

As part of our inquiry into water we looked at how we use wa-ter to keep ourselves and our homes healthy and clean. We also read ‘Drippy the Raindrop’ which describes a very simple version of the water cycle.

In Phonics we learned a new sound, ‘a’. The children used apples to stamp print on paper and went for a sound hunt in the Foundation Stage garden.

This week in Nursery, we have been learning the letter ‘Thaa’ and linking it with words that begin with the letter. eg. ‘Thu’ban’ ( snake), as well as the name of rectangle shape ‘Muthallath’. We have also learned some conversation sentences, such as, ‘I love my mother/ father/ sister’.

Next week: We will be learn-ing the letter “Ja”.

• Please be reminded that the children should come to school in full school uniform. This in-cludes jumpers. If your child is wearing a jack-et on top of this due to cool weather, please can you remove it upon them entering the classroom. Unfortunately the cubby holes are not big enough to contain them.

• Please can you send your child to school with their school hats. Al-though the weather is not hot, it is important to keep the children in a good rou-tine. It also helps them to manage their own belong-ings when they know they have it with them on a consistent basis.

In English, we will contin-ue writing our newspaper reports. We will need to make sure we use all rel-evant punctuation when writing eyewitness quotes and the correct punctua-tion when using different SPAG features. The chil-dren will then work on ed-iting and improving their newspaper reports, en-suring they have included all relevant features, in-cluding fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and prepositional phras-es. They will also work on editing their spelling and punctuation.

In Maths, we will move onto statistics, where we will focus on presenting and reading data in bar graphs and line graphs, as well as answering ques-tions about them.

Children must be collected from school on time. The end of the school day is 2:20pm. If they have an ECA, children must be col-lected at 3:20pm. If chil-dren are regularly collect-ed late from ECAs, they will not be able to attend. For play dates, children are not able to stay in school until their friend has finished an ECA. Un-fortunately, we do not have the staff to supervise them and ECAs are full. Please ensure arrange-ments are made for them to be collected. Thank you for your support with this!

As part of our Space top-ic, we will be creating some artwork using papi-er-mâché. If you have any old newspapers at home, please can you send them in with the children? It would really help us! Thank you.

Also, Y6 require bottle tops so if you could collect these and send them to Mr Kinkead, that would be great.

For the golf trip on Sun-day 19th January, please ensure your child is wear-ing their PE kit and has their lunch, water bottle and hat. The children are allowed to bring a max-imum of 100 dirhams to the event.

We have noticed a few jumpers being worn which are not part of the school uniform. Children should have an Aldar Academies jumper if they are feeling cold. Should they wish to wear anything over this jumper in the morning then that is acceptable but it must be taken off in class.

Children should complete Task 2 of their English booklet for homework (please ensure your child does not lose this) as well as the Maths task and

Spellings that are on the Pupil Portal.

To celebrate our learn-ing we are holding an inspirational person ex-hibition on Thursday 6th February. You will be in-vited to come and see our exhibition any time between 1:30pm and 2:00pm before collecting your children.

After February, we will be completing an art project as part of our new topic. For this topic, we need as many bottle tops as possible. Please can you start collecting at home and bring these into school.
