Dear Parents,

The months are moving along quickly and we continue to announce further updates concerning the school building development. The lower classrooms are being fitted out and the final roof construction is nearly complete. Once completed, there will be a concerted effort to outfit the major specialist areas such as Auditorium, Multi-Purpose Hall and indoor Play Area to ensure that they are finished and ready for our students to occupy. All furniture and other learning resources have been ordered and are now awaiting installation. We are very confident of meeting the deadline of December 2017.

I am happy to inform you that the hiring of teachers continues and we have on board experienced and talented staff from Australia and the UK, that will support the delivery of the Victorian Curriculum.

The central principle of the school’s pastoral system is that young people are most likely to be successful academically if they feel secure in their school environment.

Peninsula International School Australia gives great weight to the importance of effective orientation and on-going guidance for each student in order to try to ensure that each young person is both happy and successful.

We believe the pastoral organisation of the school is very effective in what it sets out to achieve: a secure environment in which all students are valued, and in which they can be successful and reach their potential. That is why all teachers will have a role to play in the delivery of the pastoral well-being programmes.

The school pastoral system is divided into three sections:- Junior School- Middle School- Senior School

Key referral points for parents are students’ Homeroom Teachers in the Junior School and Form Tutors in the Senior School. Students at the Junior School level spend a majority of learning time with their respective Homeroom Teachers whilst the Senior School students meet with their Form Tutor daily and the Form Tutor will play a central role in guiding and supporting each student to achieve their maximum potential.

The transition between each phase is managed with great care as students move from one phase to another.

The pastoral programmes will enable students to take on responsibility, develop leadership skills, develop communication skills and give them a sense of well-being.

StaffingOur Teachers

At Peninsula, we see learning not just as a pathway to university and a career, but also as a doorway to holistic personal development.

The books students read, the knowledge they absorb, the languages learnt, the artistic, sporting and musical skills acquired are the tools that enable them to realise their full potential.

Whether your child joins us at the beginning of the school journey or midway, he or she will be equally welcomed and invited to maximise the benefits that flow from being valued and enriched in a caring and personalised learning environment.

We are proud to have a professional and dedicated teaching team of different nationalities. Our teachers are highly qualified with many years of experience and understand the needs and interests of both adults and children. They encourage students to be actively involved in the learning process and help them to develop their full potential.

To maintain the delivery of high quality lessons delivered through the English language, our teachers will focus on professional training INSET’s.

This ensures that our students learn from experts who make lessons engaging, enjoyable and effective, whilst creating a positive and motivating learning environment.

The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is the certificate that the majority of students in Victoria receive on satisfactory completion of their secondary education. The VCE provides diverse pathways to further study or training at universities worldwide.

The Australian VCE has a modular curriculum. Most subjects comprise of 4 modules or units. Students are free to choose their own course structure through a combination of units from the subjects offered at their school. VCE programmes usually take 2 years to complete, with Units 1 and 2 providing an introductory phase in Year 11 and the more advanced Units 3 and 4 taking place in Year 12.

A typical overseas VCE programme will consist of 5 to 6 subjects totaling a possible maximum of 24 units. To receive their VCE certificate, students must successfully complete a minimum of 16 units.

Students must complete at least 3 units of an English Language study. VCE studies are assessed both internally (in school) and externally (through VCAA).

During Units 1 and 2, all assessments are conducted internally, while in Units 3 and 4, assessments are conducted both internally and externally.

ATAR, the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank is the primary criterion for entry into most undergraduate entry university programmes in Australia. The VCE results issued by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) will be used to calculate the ATAR.

The ATAR is developed from an aggregate produced by adding:- VTAC scaled study score in one of the

English, English Language and Literature or English as an Additional Language subject.

- The next best three VTAC scaled study scores permissible; and

- 10% of the fifth and sixth permissible scores that are available.

* The average ATAR is around 70.00
