Summer 2014 – Our 65th Season!
Welcome to the 2013–2014 Performing Arts season at Brookline High School!
The Performing Arts Department at Brookline High offers students many opportunities to develop their artistic technique and creative ex-pression through a rich array of courses in drama, dance, and music. We have classes for students with all levels of experience, as well as for those who have never before taken a performing arts course. More than 500 students—almost one third of the BHS student body—participate in Per-forming Arts in any given school year, and this year we will present over twenty productions. This is a reflection of the creative energy that drives and enriches our community.
Every production requires the collaboration of a diverse group of stu-dent artists, each with his or her personal vision. Students who participate in Performing Arts at BHS develop their own artistic skills, and they learn that through working collaboratively we can create a whole greater than the sum of its individual parts.
We are fortunate to live in community that avidly supports the per-forming arts. We encourage you to join us throughout the school year to celebrate the many productions of the Performing Arts Department. We are delighted you are here with us tonight.
Enjoy the show!

If you would like to learn more about the many ways parents, families and friends can support the Performing Arts, please contact our parent organiza-tion, FoPA (Friends of the Performing Arts), at fopabhs.org
What is Friends of Performing Arts?At Brookline High School our children have a wealth of performing arts
opportunities right at their fingertips, both in the classroom and extracurricular—not just music (orchestra, band, chamber music, jazz band, choral) but dance, drama and stagecraft as well.
FoPA (Friends of Performing Arts) is the PTO parent volunteer committee that helps all this creative magic flourish, working behind the scenes to provide essential support for box office/concessions, communications, publicity, special events and fund raising. We also serve as advocates for the strength of the performing arts programs within the Brookline Public Schools.
As a committee we meet throughout the year to brainstorm and organize volunteer opportunities, support functions, fundraising and special events for anyone within the BHS community interested in the Performing Arts.
Last year we hosted a fall forum entitled Conversation on Freedom, Responsibility and Self-Expression in the Arts within the Brookline High School Context, and a spring forum entitled Careers for Performing Artists. For information about this year’s projects, we invite you to attend one of our meetings, which take place the first Monday of every month at 7 pm in the Faculty Lounge.
Our fundraising efforts have funded upgrades to the Auditorium’s lighting and sound systems, installed new risers in the Dance Studio, refurbished and purchased new pianos and cellos, commissioned new works for combined musical ensembles and provided several master classes for dancers, a workshop for the concert band and a complete safety survey of our stage equipment including staff and student training.
At Brookline High, our faculty challenges students to learn not only how to perform, but the history and context for their performances, and the collaborative skills essential to creating a great audience experience. We are proud to support Performing Arts at BHS…We welcome you to participate with us.
