When I sat down in front of him, he informed me that on July 12, I would be the new pastor of Church of the Resurrection in New Albany, Ohio. This took me by surprise. While I am excited and a bit intimidated by the challenge, I am also very sad to leave the families and friends I have here in Perry County. I also ask for your prayers during this time of transition. I am so grateful for the love and support you have given me. Thank you and may God continue to bless you. Love, Fr. POPE FRANCIS:Leaven in the Dough. For the Christian community, the family is far more than a “theme”, it is life, it is the daily fabric of life; it is the journey of generations who pass on the faith together with love and with the basic moral values. All this, which the Christian community lives out in the light of faith, hope, and charity, should never be kept to oneself but must become, every day, the leaven in the dough of the whole of society for its greater common good.

Hymn of the Jubilee of Mercy

2. Give Thanks to the Son, Light of the Nations. He loved us with a heart of flesh. As we receive from Him, let us also give to Him. Hearts open to those who hunger and thirst.

3. Let us ask the Spirit for the seven holy gifts. Fount of all goodness and the sweetest relief. Comforted by Him, let us offer comfort. Love hopes and bears all things.

SCHOOL NEWS FROM:MR. MEDAUGH, PRINCIPAL In late October 2014, Fr. Jim asked me to consider being the next Principal of Saint Rose Catholic School. It was not until late February 2015, that I told him I would take on the job. I thought I had weighed all the costs and potential benefits. It turns out I had not. I was not prepared for the intellectual stress. I was not prepared for the emotional stress. I was not prepared for the social stress, and I was not prepared for the physical stress.

I always wondered why people resigned and said simply “for personal reasons.” It leaves many unanswered questions. So without going into a great deal of detail, I will explain my thought process of making this difficult decision.

I have spent from about February 2016 until late April talking to people who could offer insight on being a Principal, discussing my skill set with people on the diocesan level, priests I know, family members, teacher friends, and other principals.

I believe that I have done very well with the skill set that I have. But, the fact remains there are skills needed to be a Principal that I do not possess and at sixty-two years old, don’t care to develop.

Shane Doan is a hockey player for the Arizona Coyotes. He is a respected Christian leader with that organization and throughout the National Hockey league.

In the book, Toward the Goal, he writes, “Be the man or woman God wants you to be. and don’t be superficial with your relationship to God. Be real. If you’re an eagle, be an eagle. But, it you’re a gopher, be the best gopher you can be.”

“It’s easy to assume that if you’re successful in one area, then you will be successful in everything. Be OK with saying, ‘I’m not that, I’m good at this. Let me be the best I can be at this. And God will take care of the rest.’”

It’s time to be the best husband and father I can be. It’s time to be a better steward of the generous gifts God has given me. It’s time to be the best brother and son I can be. It’s time to be the best grandpa I can be.

In eighteen years, I will be eighty years old, roughly the age my father is now. I have to decide how I want to live these next years and with whom I want to spend that time.

So after much thought, discussion and prayer, I have decided to retire from Saint Rose Catholic School.
