Vesta l Centra l School Distr ict JUNE 2019
Dear Tioga Hills Families,
It is hard to believe that the last month of the school year is here! I feel like we just got started in September, but this year has been filled with learning, growing, and lots of fun for our students! Before we finish up, we still have lots of great events:
5th grade end of year picnic at Highland Park & 5th grade party
Kindergarten classroom visit for incoming kindergartners
3rd grade recorder concert
Dr. Jen Musa visits to accept donations for students in Haiti
PTA final dinner meeting
A School-wide Writing Celebration
5th grade Moving Up ceremony
Another lockdown drill
A few fire drills
I am happy to share that Mrs. Mary Kunzman is a District Council Award Recipient, voted on by the students at Tioga Hills! This is a special time for Mrs. Kunzman as she also retires from the district after 30 dedicated years of service (all 30 years at Tioga Hills!) She has touched the lives of many students and created lasting connections with them and their families. Congratulations Mrs. Kunzman and thanks for all that you’ve done for Tioga Hills! We wish you the best in your retirement!

Mrs. Amy Labosky will also be awarded with this honor, voted on by the PTA and staff members. Amy helped to bring the 1000 Book Club to our school, making a smooth transition to Tioga Hills for local 3 and 4 year olds, while instilling a love of reading at an early age! We appreciate her many years of dedication to Tioga Hills! Thank you Amy!
We are working on more donations for the students in Grande Saline, Haiti, culminating with a visit from Dr. Jennifer Musa on Wednesday, June 19th! Stay tuned for more information and how you can help us out! We continue to make our Actions Count in the community and the world around us!
Lastly, as I finish my second year as principal, I am blessed, as I get to spend my days with your amazing children, watching them learn and grow. I am honored to collaborate and learn from the amazing staff members here, and appreciate you trusting us with your children! I enjoy getting to know each of you as we work together to help your child achieve success. Thank you for the continued partnerships ahead!
Have a great summer! I look forward to seeing you in September!

5th Grade Parents:
You will be receiving course verification sheets from VMS in the mail. These sheets verify what data has been entered into the computer to generate your student’s
schedule for 6th grade. Please be sure that the music they selected is accurate. There is a number to call if there are any changes that need to be made and feel free to call me if I can help or answer any questions.
Fifth graders enjoyed their visit to VMS. I will be back in their classrooms to answer more questions and review all that they have learned. I will be sending home a packet this month which will include some more helpful tips.
The remaining steps in the transition to 6th grade will happen over the summer. You will be invited to an orientation and schedule pick-up at the end of August. You will have a chance to tour the building, open lockers and get organized! I hope that your 5th grader feels pre-pared for the exciting changes that lie ahead!
Cyber safety over the Summer: As children have more free time and may use technol-ogy more frequently in the summer, just a reminder to parents to continually check in on
your child’s use. I like to say that when your son or daughter is on the internet or any communication device it’s the same as being in a public place, therefore, su-pervision at this age of elementary children is crucial to their safety and develop-ment of good/safe habits. Below are a few websites that may be a resource to you
as you consider this issue in your parenting.

Banana Splits Update:
Our much awaited end of the year party will take place on Thursday, June 11th during lunch…students are looking forward to a fun time!
Gratitude:
A special thank you to the PTA for their continued support of the Counseling and Guidance program again this year!
Wishing all of you and your families a relaxing and fun summer! An extra wish to the 5th Grade students for good luck at the Middle School! You will be missed!

Attention Fifth Grade Parents!
On the following page is “Get the Facts” sheet for diseases that can affect preteens and teens. Having some knowledge about the immunizations that your pe-diatrician will be talking to you about is beneficial.
The Vestal Middle School will require all 6th graders or
those who have turned 11 to have a Tdap booster shot
before entering school in the fall. At your office visit, your pediatrician will also talk to you about meningitis and HPV.
If you child has medication here at school, you should see a letter in your child’s Friday folder addressed to you with a pick-up date on it. All medica-tion not picked-up will be discarded.
If you have any more questions, please email me!
Have a happy and healthy summer!

Thank you to everyone who made Staff Appreciation Week a suc-cess! Also, thank you for a wonderful 6 years in the T.H.E. PTA. It has truly been one of the many highlights, so many memo-ries, adventures, connections and lifelong friendships have been made. I am so grate-ful to have been a part of this organization and school.

The Tioga Hills PTA hosted an ice cream so-cial on the school budget vote night. There were lots of smiling faces. The kids enjoyed making their own ice cream sundaes. Thanks to Big Dipper for donating some ice cream and paper products. Thanks to the office, custodial, and kitchen staff for their help in organizing the ice cream social. A BIG thanks to some Tioga Hills alums for helping scoop and serve ice cream!
FROM THE PTA PRESIDENT:
Tioga Hills Families,
As another wonderful year at Tioga Hills Elementary comes to a close we would like to thank all of the amazing PTA volunteers, teachers, and staff for everything they do to ensure each of our children have a successful and fun filled school year.
Our PTA works hard to put on programs and activities that support the work that goes on during school hours, and we’ve been fortunate to have so many volunteers offer their time and talent. We have lost and will be losing more of these great families to the middle school and will need to rebuild the list of volunteers so that the PTA can continue its great work in the following school years. I will be your PTA President next year, Erin Fahrenbach will be stepping into the position of Vice President, Osee Nelli will continue on as our Treasurer, and Jessica Heidel has accepted the position of Secretary. Each of the officers have taken on their own committees over the years and support several others as well. If you are interest-ed in helping out or even taking on one of the many committee positions being left vacant at the end of this year please contact me and I can fill you in on details, then help you find a role that works best for you: [email protected].
Our last PTA meeting of the year will be held on June 12th at California Grill at 6:30pm. We plan to wrap up business for the school year then enjoy good food, company, and even some trivia. I hope everyone can make it!
Have a great summer!

In the month of May, Pack 43 had a few exciting events and will have some more fun times in June. First up was our yearly service project at the Waterman Conservation Center where the scouts helped to spread mulch and set-up a new songbird garden with bird feeders.
Next, some of our scouts attended a campout at Tuscarora, located near Deposit, where they fished, practiced archery, and played space themed games. Next up was a Rumble Ponies game followed by camping out on the field! Coming up in June, the pack will build rockets and launch them, construct, decorate, and navigate rain gutter regatta boats, and yet even more camp-ing! There is always a lot of fun to be had in Pack 43 and if you think you’d like to join us, we can be reached at [email protected].
See you in September!
