The Pinnacle Charter School REQUIRED Middle School Summer Reading Program
Step 1: Choose a book! Each student is expected to read at least 1 book from the list during the summer. Students
should choose from the provided list according to reading ability, and all choices will be approved in advance. If a selection is not listed, students must have written approval from current Language Arts teacher BEFORE THE SUMMER STARTS! Any new students who
enroll BEFORE August 1st WILL BE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE ASSIGNMENT!
Step 2: Log your reading!
While reading, students will log their reading, every 15 pages (or so) noting personal reactions and text connections ON THE ATTACHED LOG! DO NOT LOG ONLY
EVERY 50-100 pages – IT WILL NOT BE ENOUGH! Every 15-20 MINIMUM!
Step 3: Write summary t-notes: After reading the novel, students will do t-notes on the back of your log to summarize the
book you read.
