Pino Palladino Double Stops (L#86)

Your Action Plan

1. This lesson is a good introduction into using chordaltechniques on the bass. After you've worked throughthis lesson I then want you to look deeper into themore sophisticated chordal techniques that can beused on the bass as we're really just scratching thesurface here. To understand the possibilities I'd likeyou to listen to these players so you can understandwhat you're aiming for. There's many more bassplayers that use chordal techniques within their basslines but these will give you a good starting point.

• Jaco Pastorius - Continuum• Dominique Di Piazza - Marie• Jaco Pastorius - Portrait Of Tracy• Jeff Berlin - Tears In Heaven

2. Work through the tutorial. Learn the riff making sureyou understand why and how it works. It's ok to beable to play a riff, but you should always be trying tounderstand why that riff works over the harmonyyou're playing along to. This gives you the ability toeasily come up with your own riffs and grooves.

3. Now I want you to create two riffs/grooves of yourown both of which incorporate each of the doublestops I've demonstrated within this lesson. Onegroove should be based on a minor tonality and theother based upon a major tonality.
