LECTIONARY READINGS
The Pipe Line
March 3: As our PC(USA) worship resources remind us, the season of Lent is a time for prayer, fasting and self-examination in prepara-tion for the celebration of the resurrection of the Lord at Easter. It is a period of 40 days – like the flood of Genesis, Moses’ so-journ at Mount Sinai, Elijah’s journey to Mount Horeb, Jonah’s call to Ninevah to repent and Jesus’ time of testing in the wilder-ness. (For those of you doing the counting, the Sundays in Lent are not counted in
this reckoning of the time between Ash Wednesday and Easter, as every Lord’s
Day is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.) Think about 40 days. Does it seem like a short amount of time? A long period of time? Remarkably, a lot can happen in 40 days. Think about periods or seasons in your own life. Have you experienced something trans-formational in a period of 40 days? Commit to making the next 40 days meaningful. March 10: The Season of Lent is traditionally a time when many communities of faith equip and nurture candidates for baptism and confirmation. In Baptism, we celebrate the grace of God that cleanses us from our sin and enfolds us into the Christian family. Our baptism is a glorious, free gift, and from it, we are also launched into our Christian calling. Reflect on these two things this week: the grace of God and God's call in your life to active Christian service. How do they inform and strengthen each other? March 17: During Lent, Christians often speak about giving up something – chocolate, meat, etc. – or we think about adding some-thing into our daily life. Whatever you choose to do or not do over these next 40 days, remember this is a time to deepen your relation-ship with God. Consider adding a spiritual discipline into your day, such as fasting, prayer, or the Ignatian practice of examen, reflecting where you have experienced God's presence in your day and where you have felt more drained and disconnected from God. Commit to what you choose, and trust God to be at work in your life.

OFFICER ELECTION We will soon be electing officers. A list of active confirmed members, the nomina-tion form for 5 Ruling Elders to Class of 2021-2022, 1 Trustee, and 1 Nominating Committee representative will be available in the church Narthex on March 10 and should be returned by April 7th. Ruling Elders are chosen by the peo-
ple. Together with Teaching Elders (Ministers) of the Word and Sacrament, they exercise leadership, government, spiri-tual discernment, and discipline and have responsibilities for the life of this church as well as the church-at-large. In our church, they also oversee the work of the numerous com-mittees. When they are elected as commissioners to higher governing bodies, Ruling Elders participate and vote with the same authority as Teaching Elders of the Word and Sac-rament, and they are eligible for any office. Ruling Elders should be persons of wisdom and ma-turity of faith, dedication, leadership skills, and compassion-ate in spirit. Their manner of life should be a demonstration of the Christian Gospel, both within the church and in the world. Sixteen ruling Elders make up our church’s Session, which meets the fourth Monday of each month. Trustees shall have the following powers to: —receive, hold, encumber, manage, and transfer prop-erty, real or personal, for the congregation —accept and execute deeds of title to such property —hold and defend title to such property —manage any permanent special funds for the further-ance of the purposes of the congregation. All this is done subject to the authority of the Session and under provisions of the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (USA). A congregational meeting has been called for the election of officers on Sunday, May 5, at the close of worship. Nominations from the floor may also be made at that time, with the prior consent of those being nomi-nated.
OFFICER ELECTION A congregational meeting will be held SUNDAY, MAY 5, 2018 at the close of worship for the election of officers. A list of active confirmed members and the form
for nominating officers (5 Ruling Elders, 1 Trustee, and 1 Nominating Committee representative) may be picked up at the church and should be returned by April 07, 2019
