Key Characters

5 friends: Katie, Josie, Dean, Andrew and Ashley.

The main characters in our film are Katie, Dean, Andrew and Ashley. These 4 friends are included a lot throughout the film as the main story line is them trying to figure out who kidnapped Josie. There are other characters, e.g. The police, parents, however they’re not shown on screen as much as the 4 friends. The only characters shown in our title sequence will be the 5 friends, nobody else, because the main focus of the film is about them. Josie is not a main character as she goes missing in the film so she isn’t included much, however she is part of the main story line.

The Plot

Our film will be set in a small town called Reigate, where a group of friends live. The 5 of them attend the local college, however there is a kidnapper on the loose. In our film, the main story line is that a girl from the 5 friends gets kidnapped. The remaining 4 friends have to figure out who it is. Hints are given throughout the film to who the kidnapper could possibly be, in the end it is a girl called Katie. This creates a twist to the film as it is cliché that a boy would kidnap a girl. On the night of a party, Katie drugs Josie's drink and says she will take her back to hers and look after her, but lies saying she left her house that morning to go home, however Katie locked her away in the cellar; the audience do not know this yet. The 4 friends figure out it is Katie who took Josie because overtime they put two and two together; she was the last person to see her; she started acting suspicious near the end; and she is the suspect.

What’s included in the title sequence

Our title sequence is a continuity sequence because we want to present suspicious, point of view shots e.g. As if the camera is watching people but hidden behind something. The sequence will begin with each of the five friends getting ready for college, every other shot will change setting on where each person is. We will split the screen in to four sections where we see each character getting ready for college. Towards the end of the sequence we see each friend meet up in the park and it becomes more obvious that they’re being watched. This use of camera shot shows that something bad may happen to one of the friends. Throughout the sequence it will just be a series of point of view shots following each of the friends. The music will give a dark and tense atmosphere making the viewers eager to find out what happens next. We will also add effects, by making the shots more mysterious and related to thriller.

Which sequence(s) have influenced you and why?

The title sequence for Arlington Road influenced us as it was also a thriller movie like ours. The sequence used effects within it which made it look creepy, tense and spine-chilling, and that is what we want our outcome to look like. Also the music was full of suspense and that made the title sequence even more thrilling, the music we want to include in our title sequence should give a dark, and dramatic atmosphere, just like the one in Arlington Road. In the title sequence, there was a lot of flashing images and quick change of camera shots which made it much more effective and scary looking, this has influenced us as in our title sequence we want to use this technique too.
