DESCRIPTION

The Planet Manaholl was completed for University of Florida’s ART 5930c Digital Studio class, Spring A 2013. The story and images were inspired by reading John R. Stilgoes’s Outside Lies Magic (1998) as well as the assignment criteria to create a symbolic map. Much of what I read of Outside Lies Magic reminded me a great deal of what I did as a kid, and still do to some degree though I am not nearly as inclined nowadays to walk into my backyard or down the street to a vacant lot and immerse myself into a magical world of my making. As most children do, I used to spend hours in my own world/universe.

The Planet Manaholl

January 17th 2013 is the day I embarked on a much anticipated exploration to Planet Manaholl. Once again, I walked toward the Launching Stairs as this was the day I was to explore even further than I ever have.

A few days ago the exploration map was delivered to me by an unknown emissary of the Hac Galaxy. Hac is the galaxy that exists in a side or parallel dimension to our own. Hac is a Latin word meaning this side, this way, or here. Hac is here amongst us though only a few chosen people can see or know about it. Manaholl is one of its many planets and made available to me from the Launching Stairs for my exploration per my mapped out instructions.

Detailed map of areas to be explored

This was my first time going to Manaholl but the fact that the emissary is an entity I trust has made my previous trans-dimensional ventures relatively free from an apprehension on my part. Anticipation is the foremost emotion I feel for the explorations I have been assigned. I have been on additional missions to the Hac Galaxy visiting other planets and stars and the emissaries I have worked for have never let me down. The aerial and trans-dimensional transference capabilities I have been given are flawless as I can materialize anywhere and record anything I choose. I am fully protected and have never been harmed by any of the explorations, only enraptured and enchanted by them.

The launching Stairs are located amongst some nearby ruins which are a result of the calamitous economic crash of the prior decade. No one on planet Earth knows the powers of the Lauching Stairs or can view Manaholl from them as I can. Beyond the stairs is the sky and ocean.

The view of Planet Manaholl from the Launching Stairs

The Launching Stairs are beautiful but more than that there is a feeling of calm and

great expectation when approaching them which I seldom feel in any other place.

In Summation

My time allotment for explorations is often truncated by conditions beyond my

control, however, the mission was considered successful by the emissary. I don’t know

why I am limited to the exploration points of interest per the map’s indicators as I

would like to stay longer and investigate further in order to find a civilization of some

kind. An emissary will let me know when and where the next exploration will take

place. But until then I will have to be satisfied with what I know and where I have

been and recognize my ability to explore side dimensions is something very special. I

am grateful for the incredible opportunity to be the explorer for these missions to the

Hac Galaxy in the parallel universe.

Respectively and contiguously yours,

Robert Sullivan Trans-Dimensional Explorer
