With such a vast Pleasance programme, choosing a show to see can be a daunting task. Our brochures should help you pick out some possiblities, but how do you make a final choice with confidence?

Why not book yourself a ticket to one of our many Daily Line-Up Shows? Bringing the best of Fringe talent into one line-up, these shows invite special guests to perform parts of their act, or perhaps even fresh material. You’ll then be able to book shows with confidence having distinguished between

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR FIRST PLEASANCE SHOW

those you like and those you don’t.

Line-Up shows exist for comedy, dance, theatre, cabaret… in fact, almost any Fringe performance.

Celebrating his 19th Year at the festival, Mervyn Stutter brings Pick of the Fringe to the Pleasance this year. Pick of the Fringe does what it says on the tin, scouting out the best performers from the entire Fringe for this daily showcase – a perfect start to your day.

19 YEARS SUPPORTING WAVERLY CARE

Look around the Pleasance Courtyard during the Fringe and you will inevitably see Waverley Care’s bucket collectors, wearing their vibrant green T shirts and distributing tartan ribbons in return for donations.

This unique relationship between the Pleasance and Waverley Care is now in its 19th year. Since 1992 the charity has raised almost £150,000 from bucket shaking and as a result of the annual Tartan Ribbon Comedy Benefit (this year’s is on Tuesday 17th August and is selling fast!).

The money raised enables Waverley Care to provide care and support to people whose lives are touched by HIV or Hepatitis C. Since those early days, the focus of their work has moved away from caring for people with a terminal illness and towards supporting people with a long-term chronic condition. Waverley Care helps to make a positive difference to the lives of many adults and children in this great Festival city and beyond.

One of the things which hasn’t changed in the years since the relationship was established is the stigma

which is associated with HIV. Stigma has a major impact on mental health and self-esteem. Waverley Care’s first ever social media campaign, #laffoffstigma, encourages users of Facebook and Twitter to add a #laffoffstigma logo to their profile picture. You can find more information on this campaign by visiting www.waverleycare.wordpress.com

As you see the bucket shakers in the courtyard, do brighten their day by dropping some money into their buckets – and help Waverley Care make a positive difference!

TOP TIPS FOR FRINGE FLYERING

Ginny Davis, former barrister, Fringe sell-out performer and writer and performer of Double Booked gives us top tips for Flyering at the Fringe:

Hand out flyers liberally and indiscriminately – You can’t read the mind of your target but, if they are in Edinburgh in August, they want to see a show, right? Shout the name of the show as you give them the flyer. The recipient may be hearing impaired, illiterate or a non English speaker. Better to be safe than sorry. Block people’s path – that way they are forced to give you their attention.Take small children aside and whisper to them about the show: parents are paranoid about what might be

being said to their offspring – they will listen in. Interrupt other flyerers by forcing your way in between them and their subject. You will immediately get attention.Get people when they are watching street theatre. They’ll be much more interested in you than the climax of the show. If someone drops your flyer – run after them and give it back. It will have been an accident.

Double Booked is a comedic one-woman play which highlights the challenges of modern family life with teenagers and demonstrates that parents are just as capable as children of making a mess of things.
