In conjunction with Faribault
Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, the
Faribault Police Department
hosted training on “De-
Escalation Strategies for Minne-
sota Veterans in Crisis”. Nearly
40 public safety members, and
over half of FPD officers, at-
tended this informative train-
ing. The course was presented by the Upper Midwest Com-
munity Policing Institute.
Training
On Thursday, May 15th, De-
tective Cadie Spicer, RCSO
Investigator Blaine Smith,
Northfield PD Investigator
Bill Houts and ATF Special
Agent Steve Foreman of
the Cannon River Drug and
Violent Offender Task Force
executed a search warrant in
Northfield, looking for Shannan Mitchell, 31. Mitchell had an
outstanding warrant for 5th
Degree Controlled Substance.
While searching, officers saw
Kevin Kurz, 41, drive up to the
residence. Familiar with Kurz,
Detective Eric Sammon,
who was assisting the task
force, knew that Kurz’s driver’s
license status was “cancelled”.
Kurz was arrested, and was
found in possession of a glass
pipe that tested positive for
methamphetamine. Kurz was
charged with 5th degree Con-
trolled Substance, Possession
of Drug Paraphernalia and
Driving After Cancellation. His
bail was set at $10,000 without
conditions. Mitchell was also
found and arrested pursuant to
the arrest warrant.
