Several times a month, Poseidon brings in present-ers from various professions to speak with students about their careers. So far this school year, Poseidon has hosted Career Days in the fields of Engineering, Public Service, The FBI and Foren-sics, Criminal Justice and Civil Law, and Criminal Law and Prosecution. Several

organizations are also scheduled to come into Po-seidon to deliver workshops including Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the YMCA, 180 Turning Lives Around and more.

Upcoming Career Days include Nursing, Medicine, Special Operations in the Military, Literature and Writing, and many more.

In the spring, students will participate in a “Career Explorations Day” at Jer-sey Shore University Medi-cal Center in which they will get a hospital tour and learn about the various careers in a hospital. The

day will culminate with a report-out session facilitated by the students.

Career Days at Poseidon are a wonderful way for stu-dents to be exposed to an endless possibility of career choices upon graduation.

It seems like stress is everywhere this time of year. With finals to take, projects due and social cal-endars filling up, life can be a tough balancing act. Therefore, we must find ways to combat stress in our daily lives in order to stay on the right track. In our guid-ance workshops we have been talking about how to create healthy habits that lead to more energy, a more positive outlook and in-creased productivity. Have a mental list prepared of at least five “calm down” strat-egies that work for you when life gets tense. Here are a five strategies: 1) Get your Zzzz’s. Turn off all social media at least one hour before bed time. We get a better nights’ rest

when turn off electronics at least an hour before bedtime because the light and noises are very stimulating. Also, reading your friends latest rant of Facebook or re-sponding to a group chat unintentionally slips into your conscientiousness and ends up interrupting your sleep. 2) Plan Ahead. Make a list of the tasks you have to complete daily from the most pressing to the most trivial. Once you start cross-ing items off your list, I promise you will instantly start feeling productive. 3) Focus on your goals. Don’t let others expectations for your future and outside pressure weigh you down. One of my favorite quotes that keeps my priorities in

check is by Howard Thur-man, “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” We are here to help you achieve your goals and learn what makes you come alive! 4) Use your senses! Sen-sory activities such as; utiliz-ing adult coloring pages, playing with putty or sand and listening to music can help tame stress. 5) Get moving. Working out is proven to reduce stress levels and make us feel good! You don’t have to lift weights or run a mara-thon. Just a simple walk around the block will due.
