Clinton Global Initiative Commitment6
Junior Energy, in its initial three years, has the potential to impact an estimated 10,000 families in at least three states, including New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. This will save at least 60 million kWh and eliminate more than 94 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions.

Empowerment Young people are the next generation of leaders In a national survey of kids ages 8-12, 85 percent of
respondents believed that they could lead their family to do what is needed to consume less energy in the home.*
Junior Energy gives students the resources to understand today’s most pressing problems and the tools to take action on them.

Action13
If every child in America changed one light bulb, each year we would save enough energy to light nearly 2 million homes and reduce energy bills by $380 million. In addition, the savings in greenhouse gases would be equivalent to the emissions from more than half a million cars.

Mercury Concerns Bulbs purchased have least amount of
mercury of CFL’s on market (about 1.7 mg) All regular fluorescent bulbs now used in
offices and schools have mercury in them---a standard T-12 bulb has ~12 milligrams
Junior Energy site provides instructions for bulb accident clean-ups and recycling
Proper handling will prevent breakage---bulbs will be packaged for safety
