2012?

Music Night is an annual fair that PRC students anticipate celebrating Christmas and New Years. Th is year it was held on December, 23, 2011 with the concept “Northern Th ai Dia-lect Song”. During the day of Music Night, stu-dents and teachers celebrated Christmas by doing activities together. Democracy Camp: Politics affect our Life

On January 2, 1906, King Rama VI changed the school’s name from Chiang Mai Boy’s School to the Prince Royal’s College. So, every January 2nd, PRC celebrates the occasion. All representative students, teachers, alumni, and the adminis-tration celebrated the Prince Royal’s College 106th anniversary on Jan-uary 2, 2012. Th is celebration started at 7:30 a.m. at the PRC chapel. Most people who came to this celebration brought some trees or fl owers. Th ey placed their gift s at the Corner Stone monument. Th is monument had the tablet on it. Th at tablet was given by Rama VI on January 2, 1906. In the chapel they sang songs of praise. Th en, they had refresh-ments together before the celebration ended.

Democracy camp was the camp which was about politics. It was held on December 9 to 11, 2011. Only four PRC students could partici-pate in this camp. Th ere were some Chiang Mai Christian students and some university students joined there. Th e purpose of this camp was to improve and support the stu-dents to have leadership skills and new view points of politics. Th ere were many activities at this camp including watching the short movie which was about democracy. Th en, they let us talk about our opinions from watching the movie. “Th is camp makes me know that politics are an important thing that everyone should know and understand its basis. Because every-thing that the politicians do will aff ect us in one way or another,” said Kanyanat Jammor, the student vice president.

PRC Celebrates 106 Years

Th e year 2015 is marked to be the year of the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). Seeing that Th ailand is one of ten members of ASEAN (Indonesia, Malay-sia, Philippines, Singapore, Th ailand, Vietnam, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar), Th ai students need to learn about ASEAN. Th ere-

fore, the Prince Royal’s College has developed the ASEAN Center at Harris Institute. Th is center was presented to the evalu-tion commitee for the Royal Award Competi-tion by Prathom students. PRC students attended the ASEAN seminar on “How will ASEAN change Th ai-

land” on December 9, 2011. Th is seminar helped students prepare and plan for their fu-ture education and careers. Our school also had a lot of activities during ASEAN week. Th ere were many competitions such as: speech compettition, essay writing, and quiz contests about ASEAN.

Inspiration

A new year and a new beginning. A new year and New Year’s resolutions. New Year’s reso-lutions broken. Around the end of Decem-ber and the fi rst of January, each new year, I hear people talking about New Year’s resolu-tions. Many people want to improve on what they do or how they do something; or people want to quit a bad habit--many times an over indulgence in something. Many people end up being disappointed about trying to stop a bad habit because it seems so hard and oft en success eludes us. Have you ever experienced something of this nature? I know I have! Recently I was talking to a friend and they shared some new light on this subject of trying to stop a bad habit. As we talked, the ideas became clearer. I would like to share some of these ideas with you. I think you will fi nd the ideas very positive and achievable as I did. Th e ideas go somewhat like this: People put too much focus or thought on trying to stop something they do not like about their character or something they do.

Sometimes it might be about being too criti-cal about others, or being moody, or about quitting some bad habit--smoking, drinking, drugs, eating certain foods, or over eating--whatever negative character or dependency we might want to get rid of. Oft en our good intentions are met with unsuccessful results no matter how hard we try. We think there is no hope of changing or riding ourselves of the un-desirable habit. But my friend showed me there is an answer! It is not about stopping something, it is about starting something better. As we start something better, what we wanted to stop will stop itself. It leave us. I have proven this on diff erent occasions in my own life. If our true desire is really for something better, as we set our thought and eyes on the higher desire, the lower desire will disappear. An American reli-gious writer, Mary Baker Eddy wrote, “Willingness to become as a little child and to leave the old for the new, renders thought receptive of the advanced idea. Gladness to leave the false landmarks and joy to see them disappear,--this disposition helps to precipitate the ultimate harmony. The pu-rifi cation of sense and self is a proof of pro-gress. “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” (Science & Health, p.

323) It all goes back to the fi rst chapter of Genesis and accepting and seeing ourself as the spiritual man which God made in that chapter--

“Let us make man in our image after our likeness...So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female created he them...And God saw everything that he had made, and be-hold, it was very good.”(Genesis 1:26, 27,

31) Generic man (we, you and I) have never fallen from that perfect state of creation. Each of us has the intelligence to understand this goodness and each of us has the integrity that is this spiritual goodness. We really are made in God’s image and likeness. Moment-by-moment, thought-by-thought, we need to identify with this spiritual creating of love, light, and dominion. This is the very life and understanding which Christ Jesus lived and taught us to live. This light, or true knowledge, about our true self replaces darkness and domination (false ideas about who we are and what we are). So beginning rightly in thought--starting with the highest concept of man (our spiritual self)--allows us to put an end to disappointment and frustration. Remember, it is not about stopping anything, it is always about starting something better. So, in this New Year join with me in starting something better for 2012.

“Happy New Year!”

Don’t Stop a Bad Habit, Start Something Better!

Mr. Jack Neale

Welcome back and Happy New Year readers! I hope all of you had a great time with your family and your friends. Leave bad things behind; start doing the better things this year. I am sure that all of us can make everything better. Th e CMU quota exam results has been announced already. Congratulations to people who can study in the faculty you want. So do your best everyday, it will certainly aff ect your future. I believe that every mistake makes people stronger. So don’t be too upset or serious and don’t hurt yourself. Th ere are many choices for you; another univer-sity or going abroad.

“Th is is your life. Lead it the way you want.”

In late December 2011, PRC had a Music Night celebra-tion. Th ere were a lot of performances that night. For example Th ai dancing, modern dancing, and singing. Many PRC students joined the show and they did it very well. “A King of PRC” was the big performance that lasted for 30 minutes. Th is show was about the story of Th ailand’s royalty who visited PRC in the past until this last time. For example Prince Va-jiravuj who founded the name of school in 1906. And then on Janu-ary 5, 1928 King Rama VII visited PRC. And King Rama IX visited PRC on March 8, 1958. Th en Princess Petcharatana who founded the Petcharatana-Suwatthana building on January 2, 1986. And the last time Princess Th eppharatana founded the Harris Institute on July 27, 2011.Th is plays showed us to love the King and told us about the school’s history. Mob, the M.2/4 student was the singer of the plays. “I think it makes me very proud because I have done this once in my life,” he said. “I practiced my voice, movement, action, and how to make the show perfectly,” he added. He will do this again if he has a chance. “I want to sing again next year, absolutely!” Mob said.

Two P3 students won the second prize of the Lower Prathom Speed Calculating Contest at Chiang Mai Christian School. Th ey are Nattawit Aunhasayree and Pattadanai Junsatt. Th ey are from P.3/11. I interviewed them how they won this contest. “I like Mathematics and I love calculating very much. I am so proud of myself that I can get the second prize in this contest,” Pattadanai said. “You have to prepare your brain regularly by calculating. It will improve your skill in mathematics,” Nattawit added. “I usually listen carefully to what my teachers say in class so I know the concepts to solve mathematics problem, easily,” Nattawit said. “Al-though we only won the second prize, we weren’t sad because we got a lot of experience from this contest. We thank all of our teachers that supported us,” Pattadanai said.

War in the Water

“Playing water polo is my special abil-ity,” said Chotirak Jumderm(Teak), a m4 student. “Th is kind of sport is a hard one. It combines between hand ball and swimming; consequently, you have to balance yourself in the pool while you pass a ball to your team-mates,” he added. He was a former swimmer; however, he became a water polo athlete. He joined in CMU team. Last March was his latest com-petition, his team went to Th ailand Water Polo Tournament in Bangkok. Th ey won fi rst place with high score.

“To beat the opponents you have to keep the ball against them and swim very well,” said Chotirak. Water polo is a short-cut to his university entrance. Seeing that his polo team is the only one in Chiang Mai, his team absolutely has more opportunity than others. In addition, he wants to be the inter-national Th ailand athlete. “Sometimes I was injured in games. Because the opponents scratch out or push me, in order that they could catch a ball. So I learn to forgive and be careful in this game,” replied Teak.

Next Generation Swimmer

Mr.Nuttapong Ketin, who is on Th ai-land swimming team, is the best breas-troke swimmer in Th ailand. Now, PRC has another breastroke swimmer. His name is Yanakorn Kumkaew (Johnnie), the M.4/6 student. Johnnie began swimming when he was in P.4 .Th e reason why he chose this sport was because it is a safe sport. “Th ere is not a crash in swimming, you just concen-trate on your movement and win.” Another reason is his cousin also does this sport too; he became his inspiration to swim. John-nie trains everyday at Chiangmai 700 Yeats swimming pool from 6.00 to 8.30 pm. Now, Johnnie is the swimmer on Chiangmai swimming team. Th e proudest

award that he received was the sixth place at Th ailand Open 2011. His next swimming race is the Northern swimming champion-ship at Chiangrai. He will compete in the 50,100, and 200 meter breaststroke and 50,100 meter freestyle. He expects that he will get at least bronze medals in each race. Johnnie’s goal is to get CMU athlete quota and study in the Faculty of Business Administration. In the not so distant future, Johnnie plans to play more sports. “Polo is another sport that I’m interested in and I want to do both swimming and play polo. “When I asked about the advantage of play-ing this sport he said that “it makes you be-come stronger and when you win a race, you are proud of it.

Besides the Christmas celebration, we also place an importance on New Year’s Day since it is the beginning of a new calendar year as well as new things. In the previous issue, we inter-viewed students about what gift they want from Santa, so this issue we inter-viewed them about their plans for 2012. When we asked Patcharapol Tungthi-amsirikul from P.6/3, he replied to us, “I have one special plan that I want to achieve to surprise my sister.” Patch-arapol continued, “I admit that I’m not as good at English as my sister. She al-ways encourages me to study and like English by telling a story and speaking English with me, but I don’t care. Th en I realize how important English is. I got a high score on the exam aft er my sister

had reviewed me about the lesson. So I set my plan that I have to be good at English as my sister.” Th e other student is Sukritta Katika from M5/7. “Last semester I felt that I didn’t study hard, so my grades went down,” she said. “In the next year I have to take a quota test to get in CMU. So I have promised myself that I will study harder than ever. I will review my lesson every day in order to pre-pare myself to study in the faculty of law.” Sukritta added, “I think this New Year is the start of something new. You should plan for your future. Leave all the bad things you want to forget be-hind you and start the new things you want to do.”

We sing, We dance, We rock! (Music Night 2011)

Ganyanatch Jammor M.5

On December 23, 2011, PRC was crowded with a lot of people coming to the special annual Christmas celebration, Music Night. Th is year the celebration was changed. Seeing that every year we have only one main stage for student performances, but this year we have another two stages which are a performance stage and a string combo stage which took place on the basketball court. At any rate, the point is to provide good chances and encour-age the talented student to be able to show their potential. Surprisingly, there were string combo performances on the lists. Th is was due to a lot of interest in forming a string combo band at PRC. It became the most

popular activity among PRC students in every level, even P.5 students. Th ere were a lot of fabulous student bands which played on the stages on that day such as ‘Game & friends’ band and ‘Sweet Lemon’ band both performed by M.4 students from music department. Th ey became the highlight of that night. “At that moment I was following the beat of the musicians on the stage and the song was piped in to me. I feel like we had a real con-cert played by the professional band here, at PRC. Th ey were really awe-some!” said Pitchawadee Chaichana, M.5/4, one of the students who joined the crowd of people in the concert.
