Let the Warmth of Belize Help You Fight Winter Chills!

You are invited to an uplifting Belize presentationon Sunday, January 13, at 10 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Please come see, hear, and feel how God is working through our congregation to bring hope to our friends in Belize.

This is a great way for you to better understand the needs of the Los Tambos Community, see how your support has sustained this ministry since 2004,feel how God’s love filled the 2012 team and people they served, learn about plans for the 10th anniversary trip coming up in June, and ask lots of questions.

Please contact Tere or Tom McDonough (922-8075 or [email protected]) if you need more information.

Update from the Flannel Floozies The FCPCFF began sewing on September 12,

2012 and continued until December 12, 2012. We’ve had 16 ladies involved with our projects. We have completed 200 pajama sets. These are flannel pants with long sleeve t-shirts.

Pajamas for New York and New Jersey received 40 pairs for the Sandy relief effort. Family Crisis Center received 15 pairs. Department of Children's services received 26 pairs. Pond Gap Elementary School received 25 pairs. Fountain City Ministry Center received the remaining 94 pairs.  In November we took a break from sewing and made 30 beaded crosses which were attached to ribbon to make book marks for our members who are home bound or in a nursing home. We also had a fun day and made chicken pin cushions for our own use and had our first annual cookie swap in December.

It has been a productive fall but we have also enjoyed good fellowship and fun. The fun will start again January 9 when we will make pajamas for approximately 8 weeks then begin making dresses and short pants for the mission team to take to Belize.

We would welcome anyone to our group, contact Pat Wyrick or Joan Biddle if interested. Donations are always welcome and appreciated.

Swap and TradeGently used upright piano, free to good home. Call the

church office if interested 688-2163.

In the past several months since we've returned from our Belize mission trip several members of our congregation have been asking why Joe and I are no longer going to do Belize mission work. So to clear up this misunderstanding we would like to share our plans with you.

We spent 8 years working with the team in Belize and now feel God is calling us for a different type of work. Our business has been going strong and along with that comes the need to be flexible. We will miss traveling with the team and fellowship that the trip brings but we need to be able to travel around our work schedule so it is no longer possible for us to travel with the team. We still want to represent Fountain City Presbyterian Church in Belize and ask for your prayers and support as we move forward.

We have always felt that God's word and education are the main things for what is needed to help the families of Los Tambos. After 8 years of being part of the team and building relationships in Los Tambos we feel there is another type of education that we can give the village. The plan is to teach sewing to anyone who wants to learn. For one week we will have sewing classes in Los Tambos.

The other week we plan to work with the missionaries, Carmen and Faye, at In His Will Ministries to help them prepare for the teams that will be visiting. Many changes have taken place at In His Will and they no longer have the help that they once had. So it is difficult for them to do all the preparation that is needed for them to host the teams.

This has been a big change for all of us and we are confident that the Belize Leadership Team is up to the challenge. Lyn, Tom and Tere, Sue and many others will be handling all the details for the trip. We would like to thank everyone who has taken part in the Belize mission and our prayer is that it continues to grow under God's guidance. We've always said that “you the congregation are the heart of our Belize mission”, without your prayers and support there would be no mission. --Sincerely, Joe and Linda

Sewing on the River: January 21-23, 24, 25, at the John Knox Center This year's 3-day event will run Monday-Wednesday. You have the option to stay through Thursday or Friday. This event has been full in the past but with the renovations of B Lodge we can accommodate more participants and we want you! Bring your sewing group or come alone and make new friends. For information and registration go to our website   or call the office at 865/376-2236. We hope to see you here!

Volunteers Needed

Have you made your New Year's resolution? Why not commit to volunteering at the Fountain City Ministry Center. Your help is greatly needed. There is nothing more fulfilling than helping someone who has no food and is hungry or less fortunate than you are. There is a true blessing in hearing the words "Thank You" or "God Bless You" for your help. FCMC is a very important part of our community and our church's mission. Hundreds of people in need are served every month. Volunteers are needed to bag and distribute food to clients, work on counseling tables and in children's clothing room . The Center is open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2:00 to 4:00. You can volunteer for one day a month or every day that the center is open. Please, just volunteer some of your time. Call Bill Keeler, Pat Wyrick, or Gail Giffin for more information. The pay is not monetary, but the Blessings are great!!
