A Note from Social Committee Chair Palina Frazier

As Social Committee Chair, I certainly have been quite challenged lately. However, the ideas are still churning so we can still have a little neighborly fun. Movie Night at the POA is still in the works; it has been delayed while abiding by the Governor’s social distancing guidelines (no more than a gathering of 25 people at a time). I will announce the date and time as soon as I am able as I am very excited about this event.

Several food trucks and ice cream trucks will frequent The Preserve. Be sure to watch for the upcoming dinner/dessert options coming our way via Nextdoor. A Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt is in the works that will encourage families to participate in a challenge together. It will not be easy, it will involve clues, and the whole family can participate. Watch for details and rules via Nextdoor very soon.

A call to families to come together to celebrate the Fourth of July as we cannot have a neighborhood gathering/pool

party. Instead, let’s show our patriotism with a display of the American flag. In addition, decorate your home with patriotic items on July 3rd and 4th. Let’s unite our neighborhood and country together. Social distancing can work by having a driveway party. Enjoy your barbecues and ice cream. Don’t forget the watermelon and corn on the cob! Have fun with sparklers and small ground firework displays. (Keep your pets inside, don’t scare them!) Happy Fourth of July!

As the month goes on, I do hope there are opportunities to have other events, and as always, we will do them safely. As more of my ideas come to life, I will share them via Nextdoor with all of you! I said this has been challenging, but challenges keep me thinking about new ideas, so it’s all good!

A thank you to the neighbors who recently volunteered to help with my tasks. I will be reaching out to you as I organize the different events. Until then, continue to wear your masks, and stay safe!

Neighborhood Notice

Please note that vehicles are not to be parked on the street after 11:00 PM. It has been brought to the attention of the Board that recently many vehicles have remained on the streets overnight. If you do not have room in your garage, please park in your driveway overnight. Boats, jet skis, etc., are not to be parked in your driveway. If you need a space for your boat or jet skis, please contact Trish Cates at [email protected] to rent a space in The Preserve’s boat yard that is located at the end of Broad Leaf Court (near the golf maintenance building). Thank you.

Thanks for Volunteering (And Volunteers Are Still Needed!)

Thanks to Justin Hill for volunteering to be part of the communications committee.

Volunteers are also needed on the grounds committee, the amenities committee, and the pool committee. Please contact James Brown at [email protected] if you would like to serve on one of these committees. The residents of The Preserve will appreciate your efforts to help!

Memorial Day Ceremony--May 25, 2020

This year, The Preserve’s annual Memorial Day ceremony at the Specialist Bradley Beard memorial flagpole was different due to the Covid-19 restrictions. Many thanks to Denny Lewis for organizing the event. Jay Baas played taps, and while Denny raised the flag, Jay played the Star-Spangled Banner. The small gathering appreciated Denny and Jay's efforts on this Memorial Day. (Group photo courtesy of Denny Lewis)

Gals on the Go—July 16, 2020 Event Canceled

Save the Date for the Annual Luncheon August 20, 2020

Once again, the Gals on the Go will have to cancel our July16th event. We were scheduled to visit the Pittsboro Court House and have lunch in the downtown area, but due to restrictions at the Courthouse and restaurants, we feel it is better to wait for a later time.

We are now hoping our annual August 20th luncheon at the pool will be more of a special celebration of all that we have missed this spring and a reconnection with old friends and

the making of new ones. SO...Save the date—August 20, 2020—Gals on the Go luncheon.

Watch for more information about the luncheon in the August edition of The Preserve Perspective. If you have any questions about this event, which is open to all ladies of the Preserve, please contact Brenda MacNeil at [email protected] or Robin Wiggins at [email protected].

Looking forward to seeing you all soon--but until then, keep safe and stay well. ~Brenda and Robin

The Preserve Book Club

Tuesday, July 28*

Wednesday, July 22**

In July, the Preserve Book Club will be discussing: A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles: Historical Fiction, 480 Pages.

From the New York Times bestselling author of Rules of Civility, a novel about a man who is ordered to spend the rest of his life inside a luxury hotel—a beautifully transporting novel.

“Perhaps the ultimate quarantine read . . . A Gentleman in Moscow is about the importance of community; the distance of a kind act; and resilience. It's a manual for getting through the days to come.” —O, The Oprah Magazine

In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin.

Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

Brimming with humor, a glittering cast of characters, and one beautifully rendered scene after another, this singular novel casts a spell as it relates the count’s endeavor to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be a man of purpose.

The Preserve Evening Christian Book Study Club

Evening Community Christian Book Club Study Wants To Do More!

We live in very, very, difficult times that create opportunities to divide or unite. We as a society are faced with a pandemic, shut down of a significant portion of our economy, massive unemployment, stay at home orders, local flood warnings, and nationwide protests that all get our attention. We also see a lack of patience, violence, dishonoring others, anger, and demands. And we also hear cries for justice, peace, and righteousness. We believe that God has the answer.

Jesus said in his Sermon on the Mount: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

We believe LOVE drowns out hate, eliminates fear and provides the basis to unite. The passage below from 1Corinthians 13: 4-7 (NIV) tells us what LOVE is and is not. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

We would like to pray for you and with you. Please email prayer request to [email protected].
