THE PRESIDENCY CLUB NEWS
Dear Members!
Welcome to a new year!!
Greetings and best wishes for Happy Pongal / Sankaranti /Lohri.
India came alive last December with an eclectic mix of traditional and modernfestivals and events. From classical to electronic dance music, and local performers,it was all on offer. Our club was not left behind in all this, and with the help ofmembers and staff numerous events and celebrations were organised at thepremises.
On the 6th we had our monthly Disco night and Cocktail nite with professionalbartenders saw good turnout of members and guests.
On the 12th there was an exclusive performance by Eden Mac-Adam Somer &Larry Unger of "Notorious". It was a refreshing change and a different genre ofmusic."Fresh, Enchanting, Outstanding, Exhilerating" were words used by theaudience to describe them.
On the 13th we had a traditional cake mixing ceremony at the premises, Almonds, pista, walnuts, orange peels, raisins, blackcurrants, tuti-fruity, cherries and more...And bottles of wine, brandy, rum and other assorted spirits... That is what thecake mixing ceremony was all about! This pile of goodies was allowed to besoaked in the liquor for a few weeks before it was transformed into puddingsand Christmas cakes. This tradition is a part of the Victorian era when the elegantand aristocratic 'Twelfth Night' cake was fused with the classless boiled Christmaspudding to become what we know as the Christmas cake!
The Tamil movie "Dasavatharam" was screened on the same night drawing alarge audience. The film, upon release, in June 2008 became one of the biggestblockbusters ever in Tamil Cinema worldwide, and Members, dependents andguests enjoyed the movie with the comforts of the club.
12th edition of Lanson - Toyota sponsored tournament was a resoundingsuccess with good participation and well attended prize distribution function.
The Christmas carnival was held on the 20th , and was filled with the happyshouts and laughs of our young dependents and members alike!! The ChristmasCake of 100 kilo was distributed among our Members and Staff.
The Christmas Bumper Tambola on 24th December was a huge success with cashdividends of more than Rs. 1.00 lac plus lot of gift vouchers / hampers, etc.
The Hindi movie " Fashion " was screened on the 27th . The stunning movie isbased on the darker side of the fashion world , the movie depicts realitythrough the protagonist's eye. It gave us new insight's to the world of Fashion.
The annual and much awaited New Year eve bash was conducted with fullgusto by the members dependents and guests! and the new year was rungin to the merry shouts and cheers of a very happy gathering.
In view of steep increase of basic commodities of food, the Management isforced to increase the selling price, effective from 1st January 2009.
We are also in the process of confirming the construction of additional 14 guestrooms at the club premises to meet with the high occupancy that we have beenhaving. We welcome any suggestions that you may have on this or any otherfacility's of the club.
The new year promises to dazzle and delight you with a host of varied andexciting events lined up at "FAIRLAWNS" and the management looks forward toyour participation with friends and family.
With regards and best wishes,
P.ChanderHonorary Secretary* more inside

T K Srinivasan, MIC - Bar
After the torrential rains
that lashed the city and the
painful terror attacks of
Mumbai ,the cocktails
night at the PC was a
soothing balm to our
disturbed minds.
The beautifully lit terrace
with a square shaped bar
counter put at the centre was reminiscent of
the original island bar of the club. The
arrangement evoked happy memories for
many of the old timers.
The bar tender Prasanna and his team, wlth
bottle jugglers and fire acts , did a
commendable job attending to the members
and guests ,whipping up exotic concoctions of
mock tails and cocktails .
The live band –INDEX, presented a grand
musical evening, setting the mood for a
musical December. Popular numbers were
rendered and of course where there is Music
there has to be dance - shake a leg without
inhibitions, that was the mood of the evening.
