June 30/16 – Natasha Lopes will provide a more thorough update on Trans initiatives at the next meeting
July/Aug 2016 – Romy has obtained reports from Facilities confirming that various single stall washrooms on Richmond and Surrey campuses have new signage indicating function as well as gender-inclusivity. Information shared with Natasha Lopes
2015? - Trans-friendly admissions/ registration practices
Jan 17/17 – Dr. Davis to follow up with University Registrar Zena Mitchell on progress of enabling name and gender changes in the university's record-keeping system.
Aug 24/16 - Trans-inclusive initiatives relating to admissions are in the hands of the Registrar. The BC Association of Registrars and BCCAT have hired TransFocus Consulting to advise on trans-inclusive measures.
Sept 7/17 - Romy met with principal partner of TransFocus; their role is mainly to guide organizations in determining their priorities.
Note: Feb. 27, 2017 – MacEwan University announced today that
students will be permitted to change their name and gender in the university's record-keeping system. Romy mentioned this to the University Registrar at KPU Day March 3.

2 Inclusion of HR 15/ C.15 Policy Review in all Course Syllabi

Jan 17/17 – Romy to continue to remind Faculty Councils of this requirement and to draft standard language to send out for Summer 2017 syllabi.
Aug 2016 – Romy contacted Josephine Chan to request further outreach to faculty about including HR. 15 on course syllabi.
Jan 17/17 – Romy has attended Faculty Council meetings for Arts, Trades and Technology, and Business and asked them to remind faculty members to include HR. 15 on their syllabi. Several members of all Councils indicated they were unaware of this requirement.
Mar 28/17 – Romy has now reminded all Faculty Councils to inform faculty members about including HR 15 on syllabi, and will be working with members of the Faculty of Health to develop standardized language to this effect.

Oct 17/16 – Romy presented a summary of diversity-related initiatives on the Academic Plan along with progress indicators from June 2016.
Dec 9/16 - Committee discussed summary presented at previous meeting
Jan 17/17 – Invite Provost Sal Ferreras to an upcoming PDEC meeting to provide further details.
Mar 17/17 – Romy met with IAP to discuss process of tracking progress towards diversity goals and of ensuring clear diversity goals are integrated in the new strategic plan that will take effect in 2018

Mar 28/17 – Romy has attended Council meetings of all Faculties, as well as the General Meeting of the Faculty Health.
Mar 28/17 – Caroline Lillico and Romy are working with Marketing to create publicity materials for PDEC, including standing banners and information pamphlets
Participation in Community Events Mar 29/16 – KPU and KSA to participate in the Vancouver Pride Parade
Aug 24/16 – PDEC to look into collaborating with KSA and KPIRG to participate in AIDS Walk to Thrive in September 2016
June 30/16 – Committee discussed KPU participation in Vancouver and Surrey Pride parades and plans to improve presence next year
Oct 17/16 – Committee debriefed about successful participation in AIDS Walk to Thrive
Acknowledgement of KPU Communities
Aug 24/16 – Dr. Davis will discuss Cedar Courtyard Painting and identify additional possible spaces and opportunities for acknowledgement of KPU communities with Craig Regan (Facilities).
Jan 17/17 – Dr. Davis reported this is in progress. The KSA are also involved in these discussions.
PDEC Event Fund (Calls for applications to go out Sept. 1 and Feb. 1)
Aug 24/16 – Romy/Fabio to update and send out call for applications to PDEC Event Fund
Oct 17/16 – PDEC Event Fund Call for proposals updated; two funding applications approved

6 Improve Focus on Indigeneity
First Nations Art Aug 24/16 – Dr. Davis will discuss the display of First Nations Art with Provost Dr. Ferreras. Fabio to look into what comparable institutions have done re: community recognition/artwork on campus.
Dec 9/16 – Fabio will discuss Aboriginal Art with Natalie Walker re:
Aboriginal Advisory Committee.
Jan 17/17 – Dr. Davis has discussed the display of First Nations Art with Provost Dr. Ferreras; funds are still available to be used. Aboriginal Advisory Committee to be involved in decisions.
Mar 29/16 – Provost to be invited to a future meeting to provide update on initiatives relating to Indigeneity
June 30/16 – Sal Ferreras presented to the committee, noting KPU's recent reception of a $75K grant that will be used to create an Indigenous competency training program for governance groups and to conduct research on the needs of Aboriginal students in our area.
Territorial Acknowledgement Aug 24/16 – Dr. Davis will bring suggestion of plaques acknowledging First Nations territories to PUE. Fabio will look into the cost of plaques for each campus. We are looking for a standard plaque with a blanket statement of territorial acknowledgement.
Jan 17/17 – The suggestion of plaques acknowledging First Nations territories has been pursued and Dr. Ferreras is looking into this with Joanne Saunders.
Dec 9/17 - Romy contacted Joanne Saunders regarding the addition of a territorial acknowledgement on the About Us page of the KPU website.
Jan-Mar/17 – Romy followed up with Joanne Saunders and provided feedback on draft territorial acknowledgements on the KPU About Us webpage.
Feb-Mar/17 – Romy has been gathering examples of territorial acknowledgements from faculty course presentations
Display of Aboriginal Blanket Dec 9/16 – Fabio will search for the Aboriginal blanket that was used in an event years ago and find where it is currently located.
Jan 17/17 – Fabio has found that the Aboriginal blanket is in the possession of Annette Reynolds/Sociology Department. Stuart has been put in touch with Annette to discuss display options at the Richmond campus.

Dec 9/16 – Josh Mitchell to provide 'big data' perspective on distribution of scholarships and bursaries at a future meeting, likely by April 2017.

Universal Design of new facilities Dec 9/16 – Dr. Davis will follow up with appropriate parties to ensure facilities under construction (3 Civic Plaza, Wilson School of Design) are factoring principles of inclusivity.
Jan 17/17 – Dr. Davis to present plans for 3 Civic Plaza to PDEC at the next meeting
Jan 17/17 – Dr. Davis has ensured the appropriate parties have factored in principles of inclusivity during the construction of 3 Civic Plaza and the Wilson School of Design.
