The President’s Perspective Welcome to the third edition of your newsletter. I hope you all had a safe and enjoyable Easter break and trust you didn’t over indulge on chocolate. But if you did, playing tennis is a great way of getting back into shape and with our all weather courts light rain or drizzle is no impediment to getting out in the fresh air and having a hit. We have enjoyed some great results over the summer period in juniors, seniors and mid -week ladies competitions, so well done to all those who participated. I would also like to thank all the people behind the scenes who run and maintain the club. It not only includes the paid contractors, but also the committee members and their assistants, the coaching crew and all the volunteers, mainly from the social players group who regularly help when asked with working bees and general repairs to the courts and facilities. These volunteers ensure Glenburn’s continued success, and make it a place where you want to come and hang out with friends and family. We will be looking for more support from our members come the September AGM when several committee members will be stepping down. Therefore, between now and then, please consider putting some of your time and expertise back into the club so that it continues to grow and prosper into the future. The President’s Perspective

Welcome to the third edition of your newsletter.

I hope you all had a safe and enjoyable Easter break and trust you didn’t over indulge on chocolate. But if you did,

playing tennis is a great way of getting back into shape and with our all weather courts light rain or drizzle is no impediment to getting out in the fresh air and having a hit.

Pennant commenced on Saturday, 26 April with both pennant teams having a win - a very good start.

WDTA competition commenced on Saturday, 3rd May. GOOD LUCK TO ALL, hope all players have a very enjoyable and successful season.

WDTA Senior Saturday Afternoon Competition

With only a few matches to go at the time of writing until the end of the Autumn night season, we look like having several teams in the finals.

Good luck for finals to those teams involved, and well done everyone for another season having fun on the court at night!

If anyone would like to play night tennis, please feel free to contact me. I have some players wanting to join a team, but we need some more volunteers.

Entries for BDNTA for next season need to be returned by 7th May. Please let me know if you are not intending to enter a team next season.

Entries for WDTA will also close in May (date to be confirmed), so please fill out your paperwork & pop it in the locked box at the club so you don’t miss out!! Happy hitting!

In February last the Club received communication from Tennis Victoria that changes are to be made to the affiliation rules with respect to payments by Tennis Clubs for registration & insurance of tennis players. The new affiliation model, once adopted, will come into operation on 1st July 2014

The major change involves a shift away from charging a fee on a per financial member number within a club, i.e. $30 Individual & $105 Family as it is now, to a new structure based on the number of Tennis Courts at the Club. A one off annual fee for registration and insurance will be payable by all affiliated Tennis Clubs thereby reducing payments currently met in part by club members.

This change is directed towards increasing club memberships and a greater number of non aligned clubs becoming affiliated with Tennis Victoria.

These changes will be discussed in detail at the next A.G.M.

Next season we have 7 teams on Saturday and 5 teams on Sunday in the WDTA competition.

As of a few weeks ago, I’ve officially resigned from Saturday and would like to thank Lewis for being the interim Convenor until we find another parent to take over. Also a big thank you to Maggie who has been my co-convenor and has done just as much work if not more for all the Juniors for the past several years. It has been a pleasure working with you.

I wish all the parents and Juniors from the past and the future all the best and hope to see you around at the club.

Cheers

Junior Report

We have over fifty new students starting tennis in 2014. Following the Australian Open, its great to see people inspired to start tennis. Amongst a lot of juniors starting, we also have an adults group running on Friday nights at 7:30pm.

On Sunday we have run an Orange-Ball hot shots competition which is a modified competition. We saw great improvement with the kids who played. During the holiday period they took on another club in an organised club challenge and performed very well.

I’ve enjoyed seeing many juniors and their families practicing over the holiday period. It’s great to see all the courts full!
