Editorial

Dear AIESEC in Slovakia,

it is my great pleasure to write the very first intro as an MCP in this newsletter. Last month was a month with two sides-on one side finishing the legacy of the term 12-13, on the other hand planning the story of the next year. AIESEC in Slovakia closed one chapter of StepUp generation with great success of reaching historical results of 330X and I would like to thank and congratulate everyone who contributed in any way. It was an common effort and should be a common celebration. But we still need to remember, that we should not settle. We should take the legacy we hold our in our hands and make SKIA something, it has not been before. Extraordinary, purposeful, ambitious and synergic. I wish to all of you a great start of the term, strenght for all the challenges, passion for all the activities and support for all your teammates.. My last thing that I think summarizes where we are as a country right now is a quote from J.F.Kennedy: " We do these things not because they are easy, but because they are hard".

Lucka - MCP AIESEC Slovakia 2013/2014

LCPs on planning

LC Banská Bystrica - Noro“After planning I've get feeling that our goals and vision really make sense. Goals are challenging but totally achievable. For me planning itself was very productive and we've came up with a lot of ideas we can implement and I am looking forward to see them in practice. Hope I am not alone who do.”

LC Bratislava - Zuzka“In spite of the long and exhausting agenda I really like the planing from the pre-meeting till the closing plenary :).I think that we as AIESEC Skia have created the great vision and plan so now we have to be committed to it and go for it:).”

LC Comenius University - Kubo“This year we’ve attempted to implement projectizing for the first time, which I personally perceive as a huge step forward. Even though the final execution didn’t go exactly according to plan, we’ve managed to get a grasp of the new concept eventually. The thing that I really appreciate about this planning is about how much in depth we went with all the topics discussed, being it national drivers or the country vision. In the end we managed to come up with ambitious plans, all we need to do now is execute them properly.”

LCPs on planning

LC Košice - Peťa“It was for me very hard time to think about future not only of my LC but about future of AIESEC Skia, because we are generation which will determine if we will reach 2015. After planning I feel very motivated and I trully believe that we will reach everything that we set. :)”

LC Nitra - Baška“I really enjoyed LC planning, especially BoP discussions :D Process of creating national vision and ambition is one of the most important parts of the term and I am glad that I could be part of that. And as well, I believe planning itself(if it is done wisely) can be the base for successful term and plan fulfillment.LC planning was really cool and I am grateful that I could enjoy it together with my EB team - Barbari :). “

IG Prešov - Baška“I feel very confident about setting more than twice as high goal as last term. Planning made us willing to achieve it through strategies and initiatives we created. We got committed to our plan and are prepared to do our best throughout this term.”

Page 17: THE PRESIDENTS' TIMES - June 2013

LCPs on planning

LC Trnava - Siska“It was great to take part in the creation of our country vision. I´m looking forward to the projectizing, new tracking tool and fullfilling our challenging goals :)”

MC Slovakia - Lucka“Planning is one of the most exciting times of a term for more reasons. First of all, you are choosing the direction of the country, setting the ultimate goal for the year with behaviours and vision of what you want to leave behind in the country. I feel extremely proud for the discussions we had about leadership, external relevance and progress. The process we went through is a quite new one, but I believe we managed to handle it very proffesionally and now we as a country just need to get used to working in projectizing style. I saw a lot of passion, ambition, synergy, purpose excellence in the members which leaves me extremely happy and curious about the next year. One of the storngest points I am taking from the planning is the coutry vision we set for AIESEC in Slovakia: Lead with action, act with purpose, shape the future. “

BoP updates

There was a lot of stuff going on during the planning conference, but surely one of the most intriguing of all was yet another assembly of the Board of Presidents.

Approximately 10 hours of discussion were spend on the topics of NDK, Symposium, creation of new national BD projects, signing a contract with Radava site for future national conferences and International Confress 2013.

After especially long and exhausting discussion, BoP finally approved the final delegation for International Congress 2013. Members of the Slovak delegation will be Lucia Ihnátová, Thaís Barros, Alexandra Coandã, Jakub Slámka and Zuzana Maderová.

Dear AIESEC in Slovakia,

I am writing you this email as MCP elect for 13/14 on behalf of MC 13/14 and the Board of Presidents. I would like to clarify the situation about Národné Dni Kariéry as well as external event Symposium.

Symposium:

Based on deep research and conversations with the BoP, we came to a conclusion that Symposium is a great external conference; however, it is not bringing us the added value we wish to see. The target audience of this conference is distant from profiles we are looking for to recruit for our exchange and member programs, the competition is much more experienced, offering high standard, network and benefits for participants. We were not able as well to find any supporter of this event from the corporate or governmental side.  When we look at our core work and impact model of AIESEC-developing responsible leadership through our core programs (exchange and member), this conference does not fit into this equation. Therefore, we as Board of Presidents decided not to organize this conference anymore. We see more potential in Youth to Business Forum, which will become the core, high quality external event in the country. Officially, year 2013 was the last year of conference Symposium.

Národné Dni Kariéry:

The discussion about this event started months ago, where we, Board of Presidents decided to start a research about a new potential product to connect corporate world with students on job market. The conclusion that came from this research was shocking, and leading to validation that current format of NDK is not relevant anymore. We received many feedbacks especially from companies that this was the last year of their attendance.

Looking at the return of investment-we spent 8 months organizing it, with 11 people in the core OC and more than 80 volunteers involved on the site. The costs reached limits over 100 000€ and the final outcome of this year is approximately 8 000€ gross profit. That means from the amount of approximately 120 000€, we are receiving only 8 000€, dividing among all LCs.

Considering the impact model, we are facing very similar situation as with Symposium-even though the target group might be right, we are not having any direct connection with recruiting for our core programs-we received around 200 applications for OGX, but we interviewed up to 5 people nationally and realized no one.  Next thing we took into consideration is the commitment of leadership body of AIESEC in Slovakia, who is feeling frustrated investing many resources, energy into even which is not bringing relevant results for us. As Board of Presidents, we see more relevance in focusing on selling corporate internships to companies or Youth to Business rather than NDK.

Based on above mentioned facts, we decided as the highest decision making body of AIESEC in Slovakia, that Národné Dni Kariéry will not be organized in the year 2014. The next steps in this process are closing years 2012 and 2013, distributing the profit to LCs and assessing the value of the event and its brand. Based on its value, we will decide about next options-keeping the brand and evolving it for year 2015 or putting the brand on the market for sale. This process will take few months, so please expect updates on a longer base.

Please, if you have any questions, feel free to approach me or the Board of Presidents for any further information.

Thank you and have a great day.

Regarding the NDK and Symposium discussions, there is an official statement

of MCP and BoP.
