SACRIFICE

Australia’s nation-wide ‘Remembrance’ of its Service Men and Women

through ANZAC Day gatherings is one of the most profound cultural

events that a person can experience anywhere in the world today. It is

most fitting that schools like Grace actively participate in the ANZAC

remembrance of those who have sacrificed so much to protect the

culture and political freedoms of our nation.

As a Christian community it is also profound that ANZAC Day often

falls during the Easter period when Christians remember the death and

resurrection of Jesus as a sacrifice for all of mankind so that we may

have eternal life.

In a society focused more on individuals building their own comfort and

wealth through gaining and collecting, it is important for our younger

generations to learn about and see what it means to give back to

others, this is after all the type of sacrifice that makes up the central

message for both Easter and ANZAC Day.

While sacrificing anything for the benefit of others, costs an individual

something, it always produces goodness, often in far greater proportion

to the original sacrifice. Sacrifice is born out of love, for our Service

men and women. It was their love of friends, mates and Australia; for

Christ, it was out of His love for all of humanity.

NEWSLETTER 6, 2017

A review/refresh (but retain some brown – as identified in earlier

uniform investigations) is being undertaken regarding the

day/formal uniform items this year. Some

designs, to reduce the number of items

(and therefore cost to parents), are

being considered.

Once decisions are made, further

communication and illustrations will be

made available too.

Any adjustment of items will be effective for

Year 7s in 2018 and then phased in through

the College over a designated time period.

Come along to the viewing opportunities to

provide your feedback next term.

We are looking for your feedback. Please visit gracecollege.com.au/the-grace-way/new-uniforms to view the designs and schoolsurvey.edu.au/s/GxRQtyZJ/LogIn to complete the survey.

SENIOR SCHOOL - NEWS FROM THE HUB

A fast and furious term ahead with Parent/Teacher Interviews being a

highlight of this next couple of weeks. Communication with parents

is very important for teachers as they endeavour to support and

guide your child through their subject content. Knowing how your

child is travelling in various subjects will enable you to have a better

understanding and work through strategies to guide your child to

success.

SENIOR SCHOOL STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL

(SSSRC)

Cait Hetherington and Emily Mensforth are the Senior School Student

Representative Councils co-Chairs. They are working with other

Senior students to identify areas of need within and outside the school

community. Some items already on the ‘to do’ list are microwave for

students outside The Hub, lobbying the tuckshop for more variety in

special dietary food options.

ANZAC DAY CITY SERVICE – 24 APRIL

The annual ANZAC Day Commemoration Service in the City was held

on Monday 24 April. Students from Rothwell and Caboolture attended

this event which was held in ANZAC square. Over 2000 school

students attended the service and enjoyed the ambience and poignancy

of the morning.

WINTER IS HERE!!

With winter on our doorstep and cooler mornings now here, just a

reminder that school blazers and jumpers should be worn with day

and formal uniforms. Sports jackets are ONLY to be worn with sports

uniform. Beanies for students are not to be worn on campus however,

to keep the heads cool during winter mornings a cap would be

appropriate. School Locker and the second hand retail outlet at the

College are available for the purchase of these items.

MUSICMY FAIR LADY REHEARSAL CAMP “NIGHT AND DAY, THEY SLAVED AWAY!”

The full production company for this year’s senior musical production of My Fair Lady

spent an epic two days at Luther Heights last weekend rehearsing, as we speed towards

opening night. Whilst the rain in Coolum mainly drizzled, we pulled out the stopper and

danced and played all night. It was truly wonderful to see the fruits of all our rehearsal

work so far come together with impressive sets and dazzling costumes for the first time.

Students worked tirelessly throughout the weekend and a tremendous excitement is

building in the cast. With five performances only showing 17 – 20 May, this is a show not

to be missed! Book tickets now to avoid disappointment at https://www.moretonbay.

qld.gov.au/general.aspx?id=160769

This stellar company, including all-student cast, orchestra and stage crew, will tell the tale

of Eliza Doolittle (Rhianna Brown), a cockney flower girl, who is taken under the wing

of the charmingly neurotic phoneticist Professor Henry Higgins (Peter Falconer) in an

endeavour to turn her into a ‘lady’. Joining them are Matthew Bapty as Colonel Pickering,

Liam Kirkpatrick as Alfred Doolittle, Tyallah Bullock as Mrs Pearce, Ben Jones as Freddy,

and a hugely talented ensemble cast.
