Greetings everyone and I hope you are all well.
It's tempting to rant about the horrendous Covid 19 problems in Long Term Care or the fake
cures being touted on social media and elsewhere, or the horrifying tragedy in Nova Scotia
but, I remind myself, everything is not negative and this is an apolitical organization. So,
enough said.
On the positive side, there is decreased pollution in many large cities, many people are
slowing down and learning new skills and lots of parents are learning to play video games
almost as well as their kids!
Weird things are happening also: shopping seems a rather solemn, quiet affair; flour and
yeast rather than toilet paper are missing from the shelves; hair is trending to longer styles
and as someone on the radio said, "Jean buttons are social distancing".
We all want to return to a relatively normal life but I do think it may be a little harder for
some of us to come out of our cocoons and get back to a schedule of sorts. However; I am
willing to try real life again as soon as it safe to do so.
Hopefully, we will remember some lessons learned: such as washing our hands more
frequently, staying home when sick and saying thank you more often. On a lighter note, I
will try to remember to clean my windows more often, keep my drawers tidy, only buy
things I need (most of the time), discard things I no longer need and appreciate the great
life we have in Muskoka.
Take care everyone and enjoy the spring.
by Mary Ray Ward I have some good news to report in the midst of these troubling times and am
so happy to report this.
Chuck McClelland, as you all know, underwent very serious heart surgery a couple of months ago. After a few serious setbacks Chuck is progressing very
nicely, although slowly. As he says, progress comes in baby steps. We all wish Chuck continued success as he continues to recover from his surgery.
Brian Sproston is well on the way to a full recovery after suffering a stroke in Florida.
John Garlick, who has had some serious medical challenges is now doing
well. We also wish Sandra Hall a full recovery after her surgery. A card was sent to Ken and Sandy Raven on the passing of his brother. Good news...both Donna and Barry Stephens have completed their medical treatments and are able to return to their cottage. A card was sent.
I have been speaking with one of Eve Adkins’ daughters and she informed me that the family will be having a celebration of Eve’s life when it is
appropriate. When she lets me know, we will inform everyone so that we may join the family in celebrating the life of a wonderful woman.
One of our former PROBUS members, Gail Ivory Brown passed away on April 6th after losing her battle with pancreatic cancer.
We are sorry to hear this sad news. Our thoughts go out to her family.
Meanwhile, stay safe and be well.
Cheers, Mary Ray
“Hope is infectious too. Let’s spread some.” So today and everyday let’s spread that hope.
Stay safe, self distanced and sane.
