ACTS 1:8 OPPORTUNITIES

FROM THE PASTOR

Throughout the month of September, Texas

Baptists focus upon the task of taking the love of

Christ to our state. During these days, we pray for

the ministries and missionaries which we support,

as well as for those to whom they minister. Evange-

lizing those who have yet to come to faith in Christ is

a multi-faceted venture of varied ministries.

As we pray, we also give. The Mary Hill Davis

Offering for Texas Missions is a “big deal” in Texas

Baptist life! It is the primary channel for providing

financial support, educational growth, and ministry

involvement in a variety of ministries and events

throughout our great state. You have the opportunity

to participate in the Mary Hill Davis Offering by

joining our church family in giving toward our goal

of $7,500.

The work of Texas missions is organized into four

strategic areas, represented by the acronym S.A.L.T. -

Serve Ministries; Advance Missions Leadership;

Love the Least of These; and Tell Ministries. Every

dollar given toward the 2018 Mary Hill Davis

Offering will be used exclusively for these ministry

areas.

The essence of missions is an awareness of, and

passion for, all people of all ethnicities, backgrounds,

and circumstances to hear, understand, and respond

to the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ. The

people of Texas reflect virtually every ethnic group.

Our diverse population represents both a challenge

and an opportunity to follow God’s leadership to

provide creative, effective, and timely ministries and

events as conduits for the gospel.

We must never forget, however, Howard County

is part of Texas. In other words, we must not neglect

the spiritual needs of our neighbors. Praying and

giving must accompany our going to the lost and

needy around us. Share the love of Christ and the

good news of the Gospel today.

“For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.”

1 Corinthians 2:15

KOSOVO. Thank you. Your gifts to the Jalapeno Project have

gone a long way in helping much of last year’s crops be turned

into product. The long-term goal is to build a factory in the

neighboring village of Loxha which will put the village to work

and double as the first church plant. Continue to pray for the

Hoopes’ ministry to the people of Kosovo.

MISSION CENTER. Thank you for your continued support of

the Mission Center through your service and gifts. In August we

served 39 families and distributed 73 bags of school supplies. As

well, two young women gave their lives to Christ this month.

Continue to pray for this ministry.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD. Volunteers are needed

to receive incoming boxes from our community during National

Collection Week, November 12-19. We will need a staff of

people (adults, youth, children) who will volunteer to receive

and process these incoming boxes every day during that week.

If this is something that interests you, contact Sherry Lindsey at

(870)917-9201.

MARY HILL DAVIS OFFERING FOR STATE MIS-

SIONS. SPEAK OUT! This offering goes directly to reach our

neighbors in Texas. No other offering we give throughout the

year reaches those in Texas. The distribution of this offering

focuses on these four categories: S. A. L. T.

SERVE MINISTRIES: These ministries care for the whole person.

This opens doors for more effective sharing of the good news of

forgiveness and salvation.

ADVANCE MISSIONS LEADERSHIP: These ministries equip

both the church staff and church members to have a missions

mindset and the necessary tools to lead their congregations to

be more effective in reaching their communities as they share

the gospel and serve others.

LOVE THE LEAST OF THESE: These ministries serve those

who are too often overlooked or even forgotten in our culture:

Special needs adults, victims of human trafficking, single moms,

men needing life and employment skills, and people living in

poverty.

TELL MINISTRIES: Lots of people do very good things to help

others. What sets apart followers of Jesus is that as the help is

given, the story of God’s love is shared.

Will you pray that we will reach our neighbors in Texas with the

Gospel? Our church goal is $7500.00

Hey Parents (and church family)!

Happy Back to School!! Whoop! Whoop!

Just a little update on what we have planned for this year…

Sunday School (9:30-10:30) will continue its normal schedule

and continue to use The Gospel Project literature. We promoted to

our new classes the week school started and are settling into the

new year. We do need some more help in the preschool

department Sunday mornings! Happily, that department is growing

rapidly!

We will also need to add some names to our Extended Session

(10:30-12:00) list so we can open a Bed Baby room! Have you seen

all those sweet new babies?! Isn’t that exciting?? So prayerfully

consider where we can plug you in!!

Wednesday nights (6:00-7:30) also started with a bang the

week of school! We are using TeamKid literature and Flyte for our

Step Up kids (5th/6th graders). There’s always room for one

more...whether you are a kid or an adult!! Come join us!!

Beginning on September 9th, Sunday nights (5:30-6:30) will be

our Missions Classes! I’m excited to be able to find a spot for this

important emphasis that is so close to our church family’s heart!

The mission project possibilities are endless and I can’t wait to get

started!

Also once a month on a Sunday night (TBA), we are going to

have a special fun night. It doesn’t have a fancy name yet...and we

especially need NON PARENTS to lead on this night. We are going to

let the boys and girls meet separately and have some fun! We are

also going to provide a place for parents to meet and connect

during this time. This is why it’s so important that this night does

not include parents as leaders in the preschool and children’s areas.

We want to be sure to meet the needs of the parents of our sweet

children, as well as our children.

We are starting a Remind group for the Children’s Ministry.

To get text message reminders about upcoming events——text

@fbcbskids to 81010. Follow the prompts to get signed up. If you

have any questions, call the church office or Jodi @ 432.816.6071.

We are looking forward to the opportunity to minister with you

again!

YOUTH NEWS

Welcome back into the swing of the school year.

We pray that the summer was a time for some

relaxation amongst you and your family. We know

most of you hit the ground running now that school

has been back in session for a few weeks.

Sunday, September 9th, will be a big day in the

youth ministry. We’ll begin by hosting a luncheon

for all students and their parents in the dining

room. We’ll provide you and your entire family with

a free meal at noon, following the morning worship

service. If you have children in the preschool and

children’s ministry, they are welcome to come and

eat as well. When we begin the meeting, we’ll pro-

vide childcare for the children in the gym. During

the meeting, we will highlight several events in

2019 but the most important thing that we will be

talking about that day is our new discipleship re-

source for parents. The material that Jonathan has

written will correspond with our youth Sunday

School material and we’ll take a look at it together

on that day. We’ll also talk about how it is essential

for parents to disciple and teach their children how

to grow and mature in their relationship with Jesus

Christ. You will not want to miss this luncheon.

We’re excited about the possibilities this holds for

you and your family.

Sunday, September 9th, we will kickoff a “youth

only” study on Sunday nights from 5:30-6:30. We’ll

meet in the youth room as we examine a wonderful

book by Jaquelle Crow, entitled, “This Changes

Everything: How the Gospel Transforms the Teen

Years.” She wrote it while she was a teenager, just

2 or 3 years ago, so it speaks wonderfully to teen-

agers. This study examines several different areas

that teenagers are always dealing with including

identity, relationships, community, sin and spiritual

disciplines. Jaquelle outlines the biblical mandate

for growth towards Christ in all of these areas and

we truly believe this study has the potential to help

students grow much closer to God. Each partici-

pant will receive a copy of the book and we will

look at one chapter a week. The class will meet

each Sunday night until Thanksgiving. A calendar

with all meeting dates will be handed out at the

meeting.

MARK YOUR 2019 CALENDAR

By the time you receive this newsletter, you

should have already received a letter about

Youth Camp 2019. Youth Camp 2019 is

June 29-July 3 with FUGE Camps at Glorieta,

NM. The letter you received is also posted on

the youth page of the church website. It has all

the details and we’ll go over a few of those at

our parent meeting on September 9th. The

way to sign up is by paying the $100 deposit.

Details on fundraising and other ways to help

offset the cost of camp are in the letter as

well. If you have any questions, (especially

those of you with 7th graders) don’t hesitate

to ask. You can reach Jonathan via email at

[email protected].

Go ahead and mark your calendars now.

DNOW weekend will be February 8-10. We

will be hosting the jointly sponsored event.

We are partnering with at least five other

churches in our area. It’s gonna be a great

weekend...TOGETHER. (hint)
