We realized re-cently that funeral homes are not al-ways able to get notifications in the paper in time for folks to make plans to attend the celebration of life service. We do our best to get the

word out when members pass away, but some members are not getting word in time. In an effort to improve this process, we are creating a list of folks who want to be notified of any deaths and funeral arrangements for members. This notification will be sent via email as soon as we are notified by family members. If you would like to be on this list, please notify Sara Barefoot by email ([email protected]) or call the office (484-3191).

Pastor’s Perspective

This past weekend was a horrific one for our nation. Two more mass shootings in less than 24 hours. 29 dead. Dozens more injured. I heard one heart-breaking story of an infant who suffered broken bones when its mother who was holding her baby was shot and killed. While the discourse is certain to become political, I am con-vinced that the prevailing problem in America today is spiritual. Were our nation to turn back to God and experience genuine revival, this kind of violence will dissipate if not disappear. That kind of revival has to begin with God’s people.

That has been the purpose of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association since its inception and is the genesis of Franklin Graham’s Decision America Tour. He is taking the Gospel message to all 50 states. This October he is bringing that tour to North Carolina. Eight cities in the span of 13 days. Fayetteville is his first stop. October 1st at 7:00 PM in Festival Park. The event will feature live music from Jeremy Camp and Dennis Agajanian and a message of hope from Franklin Graham. If you know any-thing at all about BGEA events, they are bathed in prayer. What that means is that God is going to show up and do what only He can do.

I challenged our congregation in January to lead at least one person to Christ in 2019. This event on October 1st is a perfect opportunity to be praying for specific individuals who need to know Christ and to invite them to attend with you. The im-portance of praying specifically beforehand is critical. God is the only one who can prepare hearts to hear and embrace His truth. To that end, there are two opportuni-ties I want to share with you. One is a community-wide prayer event on September 10th. The second is our church’s initiative to pray for this event and by name for the individuals we would love to come to know the Lord. Every Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM in the chapel – starting this week. More information in this week’s BELL.

There are additional ways to be involved. Promoting the event by getting the word out and inviting people to come. Counselors to meet with people who come forward at the event to make decisions for Christ or ask questions. (Training pro-vided). On-site volunteers to welcome and assist people who come to the event. Opportunities like this don’t come often. We need to be intentional about taking advantage. Pray. Invite. Volunteer. Witness people come to the Lord.

See you Sunday! ~ John
