The original concept …
• The target was to have 100 seat audience.
• Design was with table in front and seats on castors accessible from behind.
• Control room and interpretation facility in the same vicinity.
But, the challenge...
• Could not fit in 100 seats with comfortable maneuverability.
• Could not fit in control room and interpretation facility in the same vicinity.
• Need of another exit at the rear of the auditorium arose.
The targets…
• Achieve 100 seats.• Keeping the original concept as
much as possible. • At least keep the control room in
same vicinity.• Create an exit path at the back of the
auditorium.
• Replace the front tables with writing tablets.
• Seat access from the front.• Keeping the control room in same
vicinity and Interpretation booths at separate space.
• Make a exit at the rear of the auditorium.

The Chair with
• Writing tablet that can hold a laptop
• Customized arm rest to incorporate Conference and Interpretation facility
• When not in use the equipments in armrest is protected with a lockable cover
• Power outlet to charge your laptop or phone
• This State of art Auditorium was built for Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka in 2010. Project was managed and coordinated by Renuka Wijekoon under the leadership of Executive Director Dr. Saman Kalegama. Concept and solution developed by consultation engineer Mr. Chandulal Soysa with his support staff architect Mr. Weerasinghe. Originally building design was by Mr. Ashley de Voz. Mr. Pooliyadda was the one coordinated interior work. The technical evaluation committee members were Deputy Director Dushni Weerakoon, Research fellow Nish Arunathilaka, Director Finance Ms. Iloka Wickramasinghe, Head of IT Mr. Haren Kodagoda and Manager IT Mr. Nandaka Pothuwewa.
