Teen Driving Tips For A Safer Summer

Another school year is coming to an end. That means graduation parties and summer vacation. Unfortunately, what should be happy times all too often turn tragic. Summer is the deadliest time of year for teen drivers and their passengers. Here are some safe driving tips to keep your teen safer on the road this summer.

According to teendriversource.org motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens. The risk of motor vehicle crashes is higher among 16-19 year olds than among any other age group. In fact, per mile driven, teen drivers ages 16 to 19 are nearly three times more likely than drivers aged 20 and older to be in a fatal crash.

Teendriversource also states that the overwhelming majority (75 percent) of serious teen driver crashes are due to “critical errors.” Here are the three most common errors accounting for nearly half of these crashes:

Lack of scanning that is needed to detect and respond to hazards Going too fast for road conditions (e.g. driving too fast to respond

to others or to successfully navigate a curve) Being distracted by something inside or outside of the vehicle.

The majority of newly licensed teen drivers exit the learner period with significant skill deficits, leading to a much higher risk of crashing compared with more experienced drivers. The most common types of crashes involved left turns, rear-end events, and running off the road.

Eliminate night driving or restrict it to going to and from a job. Driving at night exacerbates all the challenges an inexperienced driver faces. Stress that driving is a privilege, not a right.

A Warm Welcome to Some of The Newest Members of Our Agency Family! Interesting Flag Day Facts:

It is believed that the idea of celebrating Flag Day in the United States originated with a teacher in 1885 in Wisconsin.

The American flag is also referred to as 'Stars and Stripes', which is a common nickname referring to the flag's design.

The design of the American flag has changed 27 times.

Flag Day is also the same day as the birthday of the United States Army.

Despite the fact that Flag Day is not a federal holiday many places around the United States hold parades and festivals to honor the American flag.

Fairfield, Washington is home to the oldest continuous Flag Day pa-rade in the United States. The parade has been held every year ex-cept for 1918, since 1909.

Despite the rule of raising the American flag at sunrise and lowering it as sunset, it is flown 24 hours at several locations, which is done by law or by presidential proclamation.
