which enables students to become independent, successful lifelong learners.
On behalf of our Punchbowl Public School Community, we pay our respects to Elders,
past ,present and future and acknowledge the Bidgigal people of the Eora nation,
who were the traditional custodians of the land on which we are learning together
and growing as a safe, respectful and united community.

We have a no excuse policy for learning
It has been fantastic observing the increasingly strong focus that we all have on student learning. Students are excited about their learning and so are we. Learning is not always easy but we do not accept excuses for not learning. There is always a way to learn and a big part of that is having very high expectations of ourselves and our students. Sure we all have bad days but that is no excuse for not learning. We are all learners!!!
Transition
The more familiar people can become with the situation surrounding the change, and the more they can participate in managing the change, the more they can anticipate it with excitement rather than fear.
This is a very exciting time of the year as we all consider what the new year will bring.
This is particularly so for our students who are thinking about what class they will be in and who their new teacher will be.
How we prepare for and manage these changes will influence whether or not the change is a positive and successful experience.
Attention to making changes a positive and exciting challenge can ensure that students remain engaged with their learning.
I encourage you to talk to your children about the changes and to help them feel excited.
We will be implementing a transition program in the last week of term so students can meet their new teachers and get to know their new class. This initiative was strongly supported by our students, staff and families last year. Please be reminded however that our 2017 classes and staffing will not be finalised until the end of week 3 in term 1 2017 when our enrolments are confirmed.
White Ribbon Day
You will notice that we are planning to recognise White Ribbon Day on Friday 25 November, including participating in the White Ribbon March at Lakemba. I will be marching with staff and I would love to see as many parents and students march with us.
Ms Rose Manousaridis– Principal
Children were asked about their favourite animal. Here’s what they had to say -
Nasreen: My favourite animal was the sheep because he was soft.
Rayan.E: I liked the goat because it ate all the food in my hand.
Fawzia: The chicken. The chickens name is Susan. I liked to play with her. Chicken makes eggs.
Karim: The piglet. It was small and it was drinking the water.
Adnan: The cow, because it makes milk.
Ahmad: I liked the sheep and the rabbit because they tickled me and didn’t bite me.
We have been learning about farm animals and their babies at preschool.
Kindifarm visited us at Preschool, and we got to meet our favourite animals up close and learn all about them.
Kindi Farm visit Early Intervention
The children from the early Intervention unit
joined in with the preschool when the farm
came to visit. We had a great time cuddling,
patting and feeding the animals. We even
named one of the sheep “Roxy” and we still talk
about her.
Some of us drew some pictures of the animals we saw.
1R—Writing 1R have been learning to plan, draft and publish their
writing. The children wrote a newspaper article about
mum the inventor based on the book ‘The Windy Farm’ by Doug Macleod.
Some examples of 1R’s published work:
One day on Windy Hill the windmill was spinning so fast that it caused an
extreme fountain. Mum the inventor took the blades off to slow the windmill
down. They used the blades to make more wind mills. Then sold the power
and became rich. Mum solves every problem for her family. Moiz J
One day the wind blew harder and harder and the windmill went faster and faster. Then the windmill
caused a fountain. Mum took off some blades to slow the windmill down. They used spare blades to
make more windmills. Then the family had more power and they became rich by making more
windmills. I think mum is clever because she helped the family to become rich. Christine G

KS has been making the most of the hot
weather outside. We have been using water
to investigate what containers look like
when they are full, half full and empty! We are learners at Punchbowl
Public School.
The final 2017 Kindergarten
Orientation session will be held
next Wednesday 9th November
from 9:30- 11:30.
Please be reminded that the Graduation Assembly will commence at 10:30am in the
hall. Students will be receiving their certificate and orientation packs.
We encourage all parents and caregivers to attend this special
celebration as we welcome our 2017 kindergarten students and
families to Punchbowl Public School.

Students in Year 6 share some of their special memories of
primary school…
I’ve had a lot of cool and crazy moments in Punchbowl, but if I had to
choose only one I’d most definitely choose the rugby incentive because
it was so fun and so intense. Especially when we had a competition of
passing the ball across a whole line of people and then the last person
to catch the ball runs to the front and then you repeat. Primary school was so awesome! - Dwayne 6P
My best Punchbowl memory is when we had International Day! It was so much fun because we performed dances and sang songs. It was all about harmony. - Nadia 5/6K
Year 6 is the best year ever! The best thing is playing with your friends, going
places and watching movies. This year I also had the best teacher ever, he is nice,
kind and also he helps you a lot. This school is the best because everyone is safe,
respectful learners. - Jennat 6S
It’s been a wonderful and spectacular year! I especially liked the incentive day where we played
Football. Two men came from the Bulldogs and taught us skills and we worked really hard but it
was fun! - Abdullah 6S
My best memory was when I made it to Cross Country Zone and Regionals for running.
I had a great experiences meeting beautiful schools like Greenacre, Wiley Park,
Beverly Hills North, Beverly Hills South, Banksia Road, Lakemba, Campsie and many
more! I met so many kind people who told me what their schools were like. The
advice I’d give to younger students would be to try your best and never give up! -
Nour 6P
In art club I drew a forest. In the forest it had mushrooms, trees, big leaves, berries
and big sticks. Also I went to the Hazelhurst Art Gallery. I saw lots of paintings. -
Adam 6P
My favourite memory of my time in year 6 at Punchbowl Public School is the excursion to the Sydney Observatory museum. we learnt about the stars and planets and watched a video about meteorites and learnt about them crashing into flying objects in space - Ahmed E 6P
My favourite memory was making new friends like Ahmed, Adam and Liam. We spent out lunchtime together at Punchbowl Pilots in the library.
Mohammad N 6P
PBL and White Ribbon lessons at Punchbowl Public
School have been focussing on understanding the
importance of the White Ribbon campaign.
The central theme of the White Ribbon campaign is to
build strong, respectful relationships between all
individuals in our schools and our communities.
Students have also been learning about the qualities of great role models or
superheros by reading high quality text such as The Paper Bag Princess, The
Princess Knight and Frida. In studying this, children develop a deeper
understanding of the great aspects associated with heroes in questioning
what truly makes a hero and their ability to overcome obstacles.
How can we be role models in our
classroom, and our playground and in
our community?

As we approach the end of the school year please

Arabic Community Language News Stage 2 Community Language students are learning about games children
play around the world. "Seven Stones", a popular game from Jordan, the "handkerchief" from Egypt and the universally popular game of marbles are just a few. Students enjoy trying out the new games and are encouraged to converse in Arabic while playing the game and evaluating it. By the end of this term stage 2 students will have enough games to publish an ebook for
the school community to delve in to searching for something exciting to play and enjoy during lunch or recess. By choosing topics such as these student
engagement in the classroom is increased and learning the language becomes more relevant.
Stage 2 students trying out the game "Seven Stones". Their response: "It was fun but sad that children overseas are poor they can't buy a ball to play. They
use old socks stuffed with material for a ball to play Seven Stones"
Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 students in the Arabic Community Language are enjoying
learning through a variety of activities. They are practising their alphabet, simple
words and sentences using games, play dough, white boards, puzzles and literacy
games.
Thank you to all the parents who are encouraging their children and supporting them in
learning, they are proud to share what they have learnt with their peers.
Our school website and Facebook page is a great place to keep
updated with what’s happening at our school. Please like and share
our page with your family and friends.
We are very proud of our school and our community.
