When his girlfriend walks out Chris is left to raise their five-year old son on his own. Chriss determination to succeed leads him to land an interview for an internship programme with Dean Witter a stock !rokerage firm. "he day !efore the interview Chris takes a !reak from decorating his apartment to go to the police station to pay some parking fines. #oweverthe police insist on keeping him in $ail until his che%ue can !e cleared the ne&t day at 'h(). "he interview is at *)h*+.Scene begins: 39.23Assistant: ,r Gardner. "his way. -tll !e right over there. Broker: What is the one like that one. Assistant: Chris Gardner. Chris: Chris Gardner. #ow are you. Good morning. Chris Garner. Chris Gardner. Good to see you again. Chris Gardner pleasure. -ve !een sitting out there for the last half-hour trying to come up with a story that would e&plain my !eing here dressed like this. /nd - wanted to come up with a story that would demonstrate %ualities that -m sure you all admire here like earnestness or diligence or team-playing something. /nd - couldnt think of anything. So the truth is - was arrested for failure to pay parking tickets.Interviewer 1: 0arking tickets. Chris: /nd - ran all the way here from the 0olk Station the police station.
