There’s something about having real candlelight that really does raise up the comfort level. 2. Bring the outside in: Long willowy branches, big bunches of blooms, berries and leaves. These lile reminders of our beauful world, of nature turning with every season are such a great way to feel more connected to the outside and ground you to the world, so bring those reminders of nature inside. 3. Hot drinks: The Danish way of having a big thermos of steaming water on the table so it’s easy to top up that tea or coffee is sure to do the trick. On the road? Take me for the cafe visit and enjoy the hot drinks or stop through a drive through to bring some cozy into your car. 4. Cozy knits: Hygge can be achieved with woolly socks, thick knit sweaters and cozy natural materials. Blankets December 2018 A Danish word that means cosiness. Children’s Craft Corner!Marshmallow

Snowman Buddies

You will need• Marshmallows• Pretzel Sticks• Candy Corn• Mini Chocolate Chips• Extra long toothpicks (4”)

• The pretzel sticks are a little too long for the proportion of the snowman, you may want to break off an end, leaving them about 3/4 as long as they were to begin with. Also, they go in a little easier if you twist them as you’re pushing them into the marshmallow.

• Normal sized toothpicks won’t work; you need the 4 inch variety, which can be found at most grocery stores. Slide three marshmallows on the toothpick to create a snowman, then use scissors to clip off the pointy end of the toothpick.

• Use the toothpick to poke holes for the arms, legs, and nose, and then push pretzels and a candy corn in the snowman. Then poke small holes for the buttons and push mini chocolate chips into the holes.

• Place some mini chocolate chips in a sandwich bag and melt in your microwave (30 seconds at a time until melted). Snip off a tiny corner of the bag and “pipe” the chocolate out to draw eyes and a mouth on the snowman.

• Make sure to let small kids know that there is a toothpick inside the snowman before they start eating it.

3 Simple tips to save a little on your electric bill this winterUse your curtains: During cold months, leave them open during the day to allow sunlight in. Close them as soon as the sun sets keep the warm air from seeping out.

Use electronics wisely: Unplug them when not in use; they draw power even if they’re off. And use a laptop on a hard, flat surface, rather than a soft, cushy one, such as a bed or a carpet. The latter can block airflow and lead to overheating. Unplug “wall warts,” or plugs attached to a black transformer box (like a cell-phone charger). If they are plugged into an outlet, they are sucking up electricity whether charging another device or not

New bulbs: Replace regular incandescent bulbs and fixtures with Energy Star qualified compact fluorescent lights (CFLs), available at most hardware stores. CFLs cast a warmer glow than the cold, harsh fluoros of old. They cost more than regular bulbs, but they use 70 percent less energy, last much longer, and look just as good.
