KKangana has been born and brought up in Bhambla, Himachal Pradesh and she has dreamt of being a doctor. She has been always confident and had good clarity about her career. She has moved to Delhi when she was 16, where she briefly became a model. After training under the theatre director Arvind Gaur, Ranaut made her feature film debut in the 2006 thriller Gangster, for which she was awarded theFilmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

She received praise for portraying emotionally intense characters in the dramas Woh Lamhe (2006), Life in a Metro (2007) and Fashion (2008). Kangana has won National award for her role as the Best supporting actress for the movie Fashion. At this time she has signed many big movies and most of them ended as debacles however Kangana always had a strong belief on her acting skills which made her bounce back into success league.

Ranaut featured in the commercially successful films Raaz: The Mystery Continues (2009) and Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010), though she was criticised for being typecast in neurotic roles. A comic role opposite R. Madhavan in the 2011 box office hit Tanu Weds Manu was well-received, though this was followed by a series of brief, glamorous roles in films that failed to propel her career

forward. She then played a mutant opposite Hrithik Roshan in the science fiction film Krrish 3 (2013), one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of all time.

The movie titled Queen made Kangana sit on the top for her performance in the movie. Queen ended up as the biggest blockbuster for 2014 surprising the audience and Kangana’s magical performance fetched her National award as the Best actress for the movie. These accomplishments established her as a leading actress of Hindi

cinema. Ranaut is particularly known in the media for expressing her honest opinions in public and is frequently credited as one of the most fashionable Indian celebrities.

As of now, Ranaut has completed work on I Love New Year, a romantic comedy with Sunny Deol, which after numerous delays is awaiting release. She is filming opposite Imran Khan for Katti Batti, a romantic comedy directed byNikhil Advani. In addition to these, she has been cast for Sai Kabir’s Divine Lovers, an Indian-French co-

production about corruption co-starring Irrfan Khan, Sujoy Ghosh’s adaptation of the Japanese novel The Devotion of Suspect X opposite Saif Ali Khan and an untitled project on mountaineering from the director Hansal Mehta. Ranaut will also be making her production and directorial debut with an English language short film entitled The Touch, dealing with the relationship between a four-year-old boy and a dog; she co-wrote the screenplay with an Australian writer and completed principal photography in America.
