THE QUILTERS
QUILL Board Meeting May 3, 2018 Business Meeting May 10, 2018 www.twinriversquiltersguild.com
From the President
Dear TRQG Quilters,
Our Guild is so grateful to Sue Marra, Dianna Rezab, Vickie and Mike Shetter for the successful first filming of member interviews for our Legacy Project video. If you haven’t signed up for the last filming at our August meeting…, please do so and
join your TRQG Quilting sisters and brother in making a gift for the future generations of our Guild.
Mark your calendars for our June 14 meeting, as it will be held in the Broad Street Christian Church. Tabernacle will be having VBS that week. Also remember July is our Guild’s summer vacation month. We hold no meetings, but you are welcomed to attend the scheduled “Stitch and Chats.”
Our efforts now focus on creating quilts and boutique items for our October show and cleaning out sewing studios for the Twice Around Treasure donations.
We mourn the passing of our member, Judy Frankel. Pray for the comfort of her family and friends. Her Memorial Service will be held at New Bern Temple Thursday May 17 at 10:00 A.M.
Thanks to each of you for your participation in our wonderful Guild!
Cathy “A fat quarter is not a body part.”

DOOR MONITOR
Due to the church’s new security policy we are still in need of members to sign up to cover the door for the months of August, September, October, November and December. You are needed every Thursday from
9am to 10am. That includes StitchnChat, Board Meetings and our Business Meetings. Please let me know if you can help out. Maybe you can split your time/day with a friend. Diana Rezab, [email protected]
Quilt challenge 2018 Five months and counting until our Quilt Show! The excitement and anticipation is growing. We have heard many reports of challenge quilts in the making and a few which are even completed! If you are just getting started or still at design stage, enjoy the process, you have plenty of time! A few guidelines to review: Make sure the perimeter of your quilt is 144” or less. There has been some confusion about this measurement. The perimeter is simply adding the length of the four sides. (I.e. you could do a 36” x 36” size= 36 +36+36 + 36=144 or anything smaller. Don’t forget to put the fabric you purchased somewhere in the quilt, and remember to include a rectangle, square, circle or triangle depending on which season you have chosen. The shape could be out of the fabric in your kit but doesn’t necessarily have to be. Most of all, have FUN doing it. Questions??? Call Chris Babich or Pam Bonina.

DONATIONS Bring your hotel/motel soaps, shampoos and
lotions to the guild to be given to Religious
Community Services (RCS) by Alvina Diello. Or
if you choose, you can take your donations
directly to RCS.
They are located at 919 George Street, New
Bern and also are in charge of the homeless
shelter and soup kitchen.
RCS does not sell anything that is donated to
them - they give it to the needy or use it in
the soup kitchen. They also take household
items as well as furniture. They have a van and
will come and pick up large items. Thank you for
your thoughtfulness and caring for those less
fortunate.

Got any “TIPS OR TRICKS” to save time or money or make the job easier when quilting? Send me an e-mail [email protected] and we will share with all. Don’t forget to put TRQG in title box.
TIPS OR TRICKS FOR MONTH When constructing a quilt top, I arrange the rows of blocks on the floor. The tricky part is remembering which way to press the seems one I move to the ironing board. My solution is to insert a straight pin in each row that points in the direction I want to press the seams. Deonne Mackowiak
Got any “GETTIN RID OF or LOOKIN 4”? Send me an e-mail and I’ll
post it in newsletter [email protected] with all the
information. Be sure to put in the title TRQG or I will not open it if I
don’t recognize your e-mail address. In addition, as a member you
may also advertise for FREE once a year anything you would like to
SELL. After that, the fee is $25.00.
Business Meeting Etiquette
In the interest of expediting our meetings, keep the flow going, and showing respect to each other, the following will be implemented. Our bylaws state that we conduct meetings following Roberts Rules of order, therefore if you would like to
speak to the membership, raise your hand, be recognized, give your name and state your business. In order to try to make the meeting shortened, please try to arrive 30 minutes early (9:30am) to do your sign in, get Block of the month, take care your procedural items before the meeting is called to order at 10:00am. That we can have your full-undivided attention for the meeting, eliminate confusion, and make the meeting shorter. Thank you,
MENTORING COMMITTEE . The afternoon of April 19 we will be hosting our new members and their mentors to tea in the Window Gallery Hall of the Family Life Center here at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
COMMUNITY SERVICES We will be having a workshop on May 24 from 9
am to 1 pm. Another amount of red, white and
blue fabrics has be donated again so we will have a
cutting party and create kits for quilts or
pillowcases. Please come and bring a rotary cutter
or if you prefer to sew, bring your machines. We
will not be having a workshop in the months of
June, July and August but will resume in
May. Thanks! And happy summer quilting!

EMAILS:
We try to keep the emails we send out to
our membership to a minimum. Emails
should be used for an emergency such as
church closings due to bad weather or a
change in venue for the meetings/stitch n
chat and information relating to a
teacher's workshop, our retreats or
announcement of a members passing/in
the hospital.
First choice is to put the information in
our newsletter.
If something comes up after the
newsletter has been posted then we can
look at sending it out to the membership.
You can always check the bulletin board
for email postings. Those who collect money for TRQG should be
aware of good financial practices: 1) Money collected should be turned on the day collected 2) A list of people should be turned in with the money 3) Please use checks for all. 4) If the treasurer gives you a check, please cash it asap 5) No one but the treasurer should be depositing into our account Thanks
WEBSITE’ If you have a problem with getting the newsletter from the website to your computer, start with several things first. Make sure your Adobe Reader is updated. It is free. Karen Dodd suggested if you exclusively use a particular search engine, ie, Google, then try another search engine, ie, Yahoo or Google Chrome. If you are still having a problem, Karen said you could contact her. Thanks. Ruth
