The Race Is On For Building The New

“Driverless Car“

Think For A While …

How The Next Generation Cars Will Be Powered ?

How The Autonomous Vehicles Could Affect The Transportation System ?

Don’t you think it’s a

decade long process?

Who will build the self-driving car of the future?

And most awaiting question

???

Yes, of course Google is the clear leader in autonomous vehicle technology.

Contribution by Google :

GPS :

Helps in general navigation

To detect obstacles it uses:

Cameras

Lasers

Radar

Controls:

Speed is currently restricted to 25mph

Also it has an emergency stop button controlled by the passenger

Camera:

Can see obstructions up to 600 feet away

Lane guidance:

It makes the car capable of perceiving its surroundings

The car will able to see the neighboring lanes & find gaps in traffic

LIDAR:

It helps to recognize the obstacles

Also can differentiate the types of the obstacles such as :

Pedestrians

Bicyclists

Cars Signs

Traffic lights

Wheels:

The cars do not have steering wheel or any brake pedals

Contribution by AUDI:

Cameras mounted in the windscreen

and rear window that constantly collect images

Cameras combine with ultrasonic

sensors to build up 3D pictures

The car will be Controlled by computers

in the forward section which will let the car drive itself at around 70 mph

GPS improves location accuracy and

helps in tracking car’s position

Contribution by NISSAN:

Nissan’s forthcoming technology will allow a car to navigate itself and improve a driver’s ability to see, think and react.

Nissan expects lane guidance

system and adaptive cruise control to use on highways by 2016

The sensors will continually monitor the

conditions in manual drive mode

Nissan introducing IDS (Intelligent driving

system) which will assist the driver in taking

appropriate action when any danger is sensed.

Contribution by GM:

General motors aims to have vehicle

to vehicle communication which

will help in sharing information between cars.

Implementing Super cruise technology which will allow the drivers take hands off the wheel while driving.

Also it helps the car to remain in its lane and control the speed automatically according to the traffic signals.

Contribution by TESLA:

It introduces the features which will keep the car in its lane and control the speed.

Many of its features are already in market in its “Model S” such as

Radar

Sonar

GPS

Tesla only needs a software or a system to tie these all in a single system to build its Driverless car.

Besides these, there are some other companies investing millions of dollars on this forthcoming technology…

But the question is who will be the

first to accomplish this goal.

It’s just a matter of time .

But one thing is very clear that “ The race is on “….
