8The reason why an injury occurs is difficult to determine but essentially results from a combination of clinical factors (i.e. muscle flexibility, muscle strength), biomechanical factors, and training errors. Our overall approach is to treat every injury and athlete as a puzzle.4 pieces of the puzzle to consider: flexibility, strength, alignment, mechanics

Cross the line results in an injuryWeakness is displayed by the variable being a larger piece of the puzzleHomer: Maybe this is you and your goal is a 5/10kweakness/alignment factors however less mileage puts this runner at the same potential for injuryDifferent perspective: Snowmechanics change decrease in stride lengthGet stronger/improve mechanics to reduce contributors and increase mileage

Injury Prevention Research264 runners followed over 22-week training program

33% sustained injury

Malisoux et al., SJMSS, 2015

Injury Prevention Research116 runners ran 91% of mileage in same shoeAverage 1.3 pairs

148 runners ran 58% of mileage in same shoeAverage 3.6 pairs39% lower risk of injury

Injury Prevention ResearchParticipation in other sports25% reduced risk

Previous injury increased risk by 72%Treatment vs root cause

Practical Advice

To prevent injuries:Multiple shoesCross trainingPrevious injuries

Determine the root cause of your injury

12Muscle strength is important for the prevention of running injuries

This can be done through two simple exercises

When combined with a 30-min massage, one time per week, an optimal approach to injury prevention occurs

We like to spend at least 60 minutes with clients but come in for at least a 30 minute massage along with a 3D gait analysis and lets get your injury prevention program started

What Weve Done

13We have developed the most sophisticated 3D biomechanical analysis system in the world

If you do get injured, come to our Clinic. Youll receive the most scientific assessment of your running and walking biomechanics in the world

HOW?

We are a clinical research facility- take our research and apply it to our clinical practice. We use multiple cameras to measure your motion within mm accuracy we can calculate joint angles, atypical motion and figure out the root cause of the injury
